i really like Zheng Ye Cheng, but the storyline sounds a bit meh ... is this an adaptation from a novel?

Same thing happened to Immortal Ascension when it started airing. It dropped sharply and then it started to slowly climb back up. A lot of people don't seem to like the lack of romance in this genre so they rate them lower.

I am a big fan of the ML. I started watching the first episode and it doesn't sound like it's his voice? I don't understand why Chinese dramas get dubbed especially famous actors. Pairing a strange voice to a known actor is so distracting. Might be just enough to make me skip a movie (could barely get through Feud for example, Bai Lu's voice is so distinctive is was weird to hear her dubbed). Maybe I'm wrong, does anyone know?

I binged watched the first three episodes. I am completely hooked. I find the story so refreshing and so far free of the typical Chinese drama tropes. I actually quite enjoyed the slower narrative (some people complained about it but I found it mesmerizing) and development of the story. There's a spiritual element to it, that lends it so much beauty -- it made me stayed glued to the screen. And of course, Yang Yang looks eeringly beautiful, gaining almost an ethereal beauty as he develops more spiritual power. And the director lets the camera lingers on his perfect features. I also find the music, the background and the overall atmosphere so appealing. Excited to watch the upcoming episodes, I hope the series keeps it fresh and doesn't spiral into the typical drama.

I have been struggling to finish this drama and only watched it while waiting for Feud episodes to air. I am reading all the positive reviews, but I am personally finding it a bit boring and dragging. I am also not the biggest fan of the FL, and find it hard to believe that she was the object of obsession and affection by so many. I love how quietly smart she is, and how devoted once she decides to be loyal, but hard to see how she inspires so much adoration.
