this! i found something so off but couldn’t exactly pin point it but absolutely what you said!!
Glad i am not the only one lol. Yeah, this drama honestly feels like a huge wasted potential. The story itself is super unique and had so much promise, but the execution just fell flat. In most sageuk, you usually get characters constantly scheming, spying on each other, twisting plots behind the scenes. But here? Every character is just stuck in their own little subplot, completely unaware of what’s going on around them. there is this father vs mother power struggle, and they just do whatever is convenient to push their agendas no real loyal followers, no spies, no intricate plotting. I can’t even remember a single servant who mattered. And they don't seem to care about tracking their alleged son Hongrang, who’s literally wandering around all day and night without actually doing any market work like he’s supposed to. He only cares about saving Jaeyi from his comrades while sticking to his mission that he never questions, even when he clearly has doubts. But instead of digging deeper or trying to uncover secrets, he just... vibes? and and lives up to his lovestory. Then there's Mujin, who’s just focused on exposing Hongrang as fake. He doesn’t care how the mother (who he knows abuses Jaeyi) might react, or how the father might respond. BTW the dad never scolds Mujin for giving that offensive bow gift, or says a word about the allergy incident that Jaeyi took the blame for. he never had a talk to her about it, and ooh not even a talk over her marriage, like i am yet to see them talk, I can't even tell what feelings they have to each other ! As for Jaeyi, she just rolls with whatever storyline the episode needs. She somehow ends up in every mess, just so Hongrang has a reason to get involved. She literally gets nearly killed then gets saved and that’s it. No one talks about it afterward. And her so-called “friends”? We only find out they’re her childhood friends after she trusts Hongrang as her brother. Before that I seriously thought they were just some random peasants she hired to help her search lol.
I like the story and the characters but I feel something is off about the narrative and the pace, it's as if every character is minding their own business and don't seem to question or doubt what the other is plotting.
This show and "Family matters" have the lowest rating of currently ongoing drama, yet they are the most interesting among them . At this rate, i might give "Face me" a shot as well, since it is rated 7.9 lol
This show is hard to follow being so cryptic and disjointed. I disliked it in The Trunk and annoyed even more…
IKR I also noticed that he was wearing the same clothes for the three days !! I think there is something about "repetitiveness" , the highschool girl repeated the same scenario everyday of running an errand for her mother, the guy with the broken legs also repeated going through the same street everyday while singing. My guess is that as long as you don't break the repetitiveness you will remain a "sane" ghost , but as soon as you became conscious about it, the quirkiness starts showing . PS: i only watched 2 episodes so far.
I logged into my mdl account just to say that Bando Ryota performance as Mikkun IS JUST SO ON POINT !!! The best portrayal of someone with autism I have seen in my life !! he deserves an oscar !!
After the appearance of Squid Games, this movie directly popped into my memory. Well, I thought I was the only one relating in it to the overhyped drama lol considering that it's not that much popular. I was so surprised to see many comments relating to SG here. I don't remember the details of the movie itself but I remember rating it 9/10 for its originality. Glad that more people are noticing it now.
"A series that is completely irrational, but of the most attractive kind of irrationality" I looooved this expression. This is exactly how I feel about this drama. I hate seeing Chayenzo repeatedly winning every deal, but at the same time, I am enjoying all their victories. It bothers me seeing the unbeatable Vincenzo not being able to deal with the tenants and the gold yet I love all the comedy behind it.
Back to the start of the show, honestly, I almost dropped it at the two first episodes because of the contrast between what seemed to be a dark mafia theme from the prologue of Vincenzo in Italy and the comical portrayal of the tenants from the Geumga building. It made it seem incoherent and chaotic. But as time passed by the show started to balance to me, especially after finding out the screenwriter is the same as Chief Kim (a show with an unrealistic comedy that I dropped for this reason, and now I am considering resuming it after understanding the writer sense of humor).
This is a random remark at random timing. But I have always wanted to point out the fashion of Jang Han Seo .. they made him wear suits with a very wide collar barely showing his neck to make him look like a typical mama's boy. This helped in some way in emphasizing his naivety to the subconscious mind of the audience. I really like this detail ♥.
I noticed the blue thing too and he is always visiting Vincenzo which probably isn't normal pigeon behavior
Yeah .. I got suspicious since the 1st time the pigeon showed up. This and the roof has definitely something to do with the gold. Also I am wondering when the robbers from the first episode will appear again. unless it is some kind of reference to another drama that I don't know about ???
Am I the only one thinking the pigeon scene is not only for the comedy. There is something tied to Inzaghi's leg, and he is always standing by the window. This made me wonder maybe the old tenant has something to do with the story and the buried gold maybe ??
The 9th episode was legendary. Starting from the point they switched back to the narrating of Hidaka's story of meeting his brother, to scene on the ferry T_____T .. ugh they had me sobbing there. And Gosh !! we didn't need a fraction of a second to get convinced they are back to their true bodies, Hidaka with his deeeep voice and elegancy and Ayase with her hyper-activeness T.T those two actors are truly amazing !!
I remember noticing this guy from Monstar (and I am glad I left a comment back then hihihih) !! and here I am coming back to congratulate this guy for crawling slowly into fame ♥♥ . The penthouse is a popular drama in Korea these days and thus he is being noticed by the audience and the industry .. and what eventually comes after being noticed is a main role !! so yeah I'll be waiting for your next work ♥ !
Jeez what wrong with this critics its only first 4 episode like its only starting build up when yeom gajin know…
One of the reasons why people express their opinions here, is to find whether there is anyone sharing the same point of view with them, being it a negative or a positive feedback. All you should do is find those who are your side and ignore those who oppose you.
Tbh I really didn't want to admit it but think the writing so far is a mess. Many people are praising this drama…
I totally agree with you. Personally, the early revelation didn't bother me as much as the way it happened. When the father suddenly decided to tell her she is not his daughter I thought something bigger was going on between him and the chief. like some deal or promise was broken between the two that led him to take such a hasty decision. But no, it happened only for the sake of making Ga Jin know she is the princess.
