Breaking the bubble for you... Spoiler alert🚨🚨 . . . Syc actually waited, for about a couple of months b4 finalizing his decision. They rushed in the drama, coz they wanted more time fir the leads. In the book SYC's present in 1/3 rd of the story. So they probably wanted to cut it short. . . If they closely followed the book, i really hope they get ML&FL together in coming 2/3 episodes at the max.

Its nobody's fault. If you try to understand the characters, its pretty simple. For Ji Xing, her company mattered a lot, and Yi chen probably didn't want a workaholic partner. They wanted different things in life.
Is Han ting's overall personality different from novel?
Yeah. Slightly. Which is obvious since they've included the college trope. In book they were 2 unknown people meeting solely for business. But things are different now, since he had a crush on her in the past.
