I think he said almost to the T in an interview what you just said, that his challenge was to bring to the forth…
Well, he succeeded because I saw and felt everything. I’m also impressed at how he was able to keep his eyes just moist enough, without tears pooling up in the eyes. How??
TJC did a really good job portraying his burning emotions while remaining cold on the outside. His eyes, microexpressions… from anger to sad to hopeful to utterly crushed… he did the “afraid to let him in her dreams” scene so well. I’m just all kinds of heartbroken for XL
100%. Even the character used for China (中国) means "the middle kingdom" or "the center state."
not just China. Japan = the land of the rising sun. Before knowing what we know now, many countries and people believed that they were the world, that they’re the center of the world.
I can’t accept the fact that XL wait and protect XY literally with his whole life for 37 years and at the end…
He gave two of his lives to save XY, but didn’t die to protect her one last time. He’a a general in a losing war, and he knew that it was time to go, on the battlefield.
Later in the novel, one time XY amused herself and told XL that she wished she found him first. She had wandered…
Everything about XL and their relationship screams tragedy. She acknowledged to him that they were true soulmates. Did she ever acknowledge her feelings toward him besides the snow globe?
Out of principle, once it was discovered that she was the daughter and granddaughter of his enemies, he knew that their love was ill fated. I’m really heartbroken over XL.
Let’s he heartbroken together.
I’m sad about XL’s story too, though :(
That’s a bit further down the line though

The author said that there were 2 reasons. What were they?
