Wow I have read your review and it made me realize that everything you have said are the actual reason why I cannot get into it. I dropped this after 3 episodes because I couldn't connect with it, with the characters, with the story. I cannot find anything that I can relate to. In fact I felt a bit put off with all the shameless and guiltless showcasing of lavishness and luxuriousness. At the same time I felt a bit uncomfortable with the hints of idolizing good looks and beauty. It just felt so shallow, superficial and very empty to me. It also felt pretentious and inauthentic.
I also dropped this one after I've watched the first 3 episodes. I just felt that something was off or something was missing.
Don't get me wrong I love IU in My Mister, Hotel del Luna and when Life Gives You Tangerine. She's a good actress if you give her serious scripts. I also have no problems with Byeon Woo Seok as I think he's a good actor. Maybe he needs more polishing but that will come as he take more serious scripts in the future.
I thought about it long and hard and contemplated as to why I have not enjoyed this at all and it occurred to me one day that for me the drama just felt quite pretentious to me. Not authentic.
The director had focused too much on the beautiful and gorgeous faces thus with the so much super close ups which were quite annoying to me and very distracting. Like I don't care about how gorgeous IU or how hot BWS is. I just want to see the characters themselves and try to connect with the characters and be immersed in their stories. I did not want to see the actors pretending to be the characters. I want the actors to become the characters. So the director focusing so much on faces and those close ups just distracted me so much in connecting with the characters.
The director also focused so much on displaying unashamedly and without guilt so much lavishness and excesses of the rich by showcasing explicitly the expensive clothes, accessories, furniture and such. Which again was very distracting for me. It made me confused as to whether I was watching a drama or was I watching a sales showcase or a modeling show.
I question whether these things were done on purpose to distract the viewers from the cringe cliches and weak half baked story and such. As one of the reviewer here said, it has "no soul". I tend to agree with her. I felt that way too. That something was missing and that reviewer might be onto something. It is missing a soul.
However, this is just my opinion. My own views. Who knows I might pick it up again in the future but for now it just do not give me that eagerness feeling.

This started off really strong. Hopefully it'll continue it's momentum. Im Ji Yeon is such a very good actress. You can see it on her every micro expressions during her close up shots. She is what I call an authentic actress. Not pretentious. Authentic acting is like not pretending to be the character being played but to actually become the character.
I agree with some commenters here. This drama is very underrated. It's actually really good. Production, costume, acting, story....they are all very well done and so this really and surely deserve a higher than 7.2 rating.
I love that he gave him a really hard time before forgiving him coz he deserved that difficulty after all the hardships he had subjected her to undergo.
That is certainly a valid reason not to relate to an escapist romcom :) Not all dramas are for everyone and itβs…
No I have not watched The Glamorous Night and Fake It Till You Make It yet but I will surely check them out. Thanks very much for your suggestions. I also would like to thank you for your very kind and respectful reply. Cheers! π
Romcom KDrama, why would you relate yourself or to someone? I am telling you just dont watch if you think you…
If you don't relate then you can't connect. If you can't connect with the characters of a movie, a drama series or even a book then it would be hard for you to finish them. I would say it is the same in real life. If you cannot relate with a person then you cannot connect with that person and so therefore it will be much harder to be good friends with that person. Also please read my original post I did say that I am dropping it so therefore I am not watching it. End of story.
I dropped this one for now because I can't seem to connect or relate with the characters as they do not really belong to the working class where I belong. Most of them are the rich and beautiful and famous and modern day royals and people at the top.
It would be so nice for him to have a main role alongside Kim Hye Yoon as his female lead...maybe....after his enlistment? Pretty please? ππππ
Okay so I know they are after the visuals to showcase the beautifulness and loveliness, etc. But can they like lay off the super numerous close ups? It's driving me insane. It's just too much face shots in my opinion. It's distracting me from what is happening in the story. πππ
Honestly, the 2nd male lead is not needed in the story. If you remove him there would have been ample time to show family dynamics instead and show legalities and paper works for applying for guardianship and also everyday life raising up a child and such. Very bad writing in my opinion.
just opinion: I think I'm the only one who hates kisses scenes in kdramas ..... the song and the slow-motion make…
OMG I thought I'm the only one. I agree with you 100%. I'm the same way. When these scenes come up I would roll my eyes and scream at the screen to hurry up already. I just hate the slow motion. ππππππ
This started good for me that I could not wait to watch the next episode. However, when the 2nd part started, it got harder and harder for me to finish. I am now at the last and final episode and I started this at noon but I still have not finished the episode until now and it's already 5pm. The amnesia trope just killed this for me. It's cringe.
I find the female lead character for this very immature and childish. I have expected her to have changed and matured a little bit after the 3 years past forward of the story but no she remained the same even though she claimed she had changed. She remained childish and immature.
I think this actor is going to have a really bright future because he can really act and can act very well. Not to mention he has such a very beautiful face.
Kang Min Ju is a very good example of a person who has zero self awareness. Such a hypocrite about her stalker when she is so unaware that she is exactly the same. πππ
