My favorite scene of the entire series will always be episode 14, Xiaoyao and Cang Xuan's reunion, when he brought her back to the Haoling palace. The moment he realized Xiaoliu was Xiaoyao all along, he walked over to her while she and TSJ were eating fruits. When she declined the Logan fruit, he knew it. He walked over, bent down, and healed her leg. The memories of him hurting Xiaoyao rushed over him. He asked her, "Does it hurt?" She responded, "No" and they cried silently knowing they have found each other. I can't get over this scene and have watched it over and over again. My heart is drowning in pain for the two of them.

Sigh… Cang Juan… Loving and wanting Xiaoyao so much yet always holding back until he gets ahold of the world first. He was born with the burden of vengeance and goals of staying alive to protect those who he loves (Xiaoyao and the common people). Even as far as hurting himself physically, emotionally, and mentally, he still chose that path to secure hers and the people’s safety. The most unselfish character. He wanted to make sure he can create a world that can protect them. He work hard so Xiao Yao can live freely and safely.
His greed for the throne was driven by his motivation and promise to keep XY safe for all her life and the common people living in peace. He knew that was the only position that can protect both.

XY has said over and over again, if she ever has to chose, it will always be CX. She will protect him at all cost. She return as grand princess of Haoling for CX. I love their bond!!

I like XL and TSJ but I will always pick CX over the two. His devotion to XY is truly genuine and sincere beyond words. In the mere world, one needs more than love to protect the ones you love. CX knew he couldn't protect his family (XY) if he wasn't king. All the sacrifice and torture he went through is the motivation and drive of the little CX who witnessed his parents, grandma, and auntie's death. It's his vow to himself to protect XY. gosh every single scene of Zhang Wen Yi as Cang Xuan is perfectly executed!! Every emotion portrayed felt so real. As an audience, I felt his grief and loss; his happiness and loneliness.

could you clarify? is CX not the emperor’s blood grandson? there’s so many variations out there…. XY’s mom is adopted by the empress, XY’s mom is the disciple of the empress, etc.. this is the first that I’m hearing CX is not blood related to emperor. I’ve not read the novel, so I am just going off the drama, though it is confusing because somtimes the translation (English subs) are different.

I was done the moment XY asked CX to find her a man when she was heartbroken over Jing. So out of character and unnecessary. She has always stated, over and over again, she will not rely on a man. This was a strong trait of hers, given her many trials and tribulations. I don’t know what the script writers were thinking.
