basically the deity revives as a human every time they die, but they're always sick and are destined to die early.…
The deity is simply "God", the prime deity of any and all religions humans have created. There are no other deities - she is the one and only. Humans willed her into existence because they needed "God", so now that is her role. Myeol Mang/Doom is not so much a deity but more like the supernatural embodiment of a force that needs to exist in the world, so, while powerful, he is still constrained by the rules dictated by his role in the world and human existence. They are the only two supernatural beings that we know of (so far) in the drama. God came into being first because she is the creative force and Doom, by necessity, came into being after her because destruction is the final page in any story of creation. So, you can essentially view Doom as being the subordinate of God or, more kindly (and, as I believe has been mentioned in the drama itself), that God is the mother of Doom.

I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, but I think I have a pretty good handle on the story and nothing so far has seemed confusing to me, so, if you have any more questions about stuff going on in the story, I will be happy to answer them if I'm able to :)

i think just have to pay atention... because everything was explained.
Yeah, everything seems pretty staightforward to me too - it's all there if one is paying attention. Maybe it has something to do with the translation on Viki (where I'm watching it) compared to the translation on other streaming services?

I loved reading both your and moni_j_i thoughts about this latest episode! Thanks for writing, both of you :)

I usually ramble on quite a bit with my comments, but all I'll say this time is: Wow! What an amazing and beautiful episode! My favorite of the series so far.

@ Jane I do understand where you’re coming from, however, just as you claim that criticisms can make it feel…
Yeah, but, to be honest, a lot of the negative comments here really come off as people being angry that this show wasn't tailor-made to suit their taste in drama instead of being constructive criticism or saying something informative about the show for people who may want for watch it in the future.

True... but waiting another week for the next episode is better than having no episode to wait for ;) I have a feeling I'm going to miss this drama quite a bit when it ends.

This was so well written and you convey exactly what's going in in the drama so far (at least in my opinion).…
I agree with jojo (as seems usual for things regarding this drama, haha). That really was an amazingly well composed post. Thanks for taking the time to write it :)

As far as the deity's part in the story goes, I think the scenes with her have been some of the best - I love all the doublespeak she's thrown at our leads. We've known she's been up to something, but, up until recently, our leads have had no idea what she's really been talking about when she speaks of plants and gives Tak Dong Kyung a marble with what looks like the universe in it. Seriously a treat! :D And, yes, I agree that @sal09 might be onto something with that idea. Now I'm really excited to see what today's episode has to offer :)

Btw, I'm cheering for the plant ;) Hahaha

Also, the idea you've presented works well with the way different aspects of duality are being explored in the show, from the intertwined relationship between creation and destruction to the large house and small apartment being connected to the mom and aunt being twins, among many other things. Very nice :)

Oh! I like that idea! It's unlikely, but it would be interesting of our secondary characters got a sad/tragic ending because of that while our leads got a happy ending because of the way they're approaching things.

I added this drama to my watchlist only because of the Breaking down OST.Is this a good watch ?Any ideas ?Well…
I agree with Bidulgi about checking out a few episodes to see if it's working for you. I think you'd probably know by the end of the 3rd episode or so if you should continue. Personally, I'm loving this drama, but, as has been shown in this comment section, there's quite a difference in preference.

Although this is still one of my favourite currently airing dramas I’m a bit confused about the secondary leads…
Well, you're correct - right now the drama does indeed have a kind of "ensemble cast" feel to it, which is something I personally like but I can see how others might not. I'd say that if you're enjoying the show so far, trust the writer to tell their story and put the pieces together for us when they feel the time is right :]

As usual, it's interesting comparing what's being said on this site with what's being said on Viki, where this drama has a 9.8 rating and 8688 almost unanimously glowing reviews. It's not unusual for the people on Viki to post more favorably for any given drama, but the difference in the overall tone of the posts between here and there, especially for this drama, is rather striking.

I also love this drama! Just think of it as difference in preferences for those who dislike the drama. I just…
I see it that way about the haters also. I'm pretty critical of poorly written shows, but I'm not coming across much to complain about with this one. There are some interesting moral dilemmas being presented for Park Bo Young's character and a fair amount of philosophical ideas hanging around in the background that are informing a lot of our main characters' actions. I think those things are creating a story that, while not necessarily having a life-changing level of depth, end up being more deceptively complex than most people want from their entertainment, and I get that - there are definitely times when I want more fluff than substance too. So, if the show's not grabbing someone for whatever reason, they're obviously not going to want to put in the effort to see the story unfolding in the way a lot of the fans of the show (myself included) are seeing it unfold. I think it's pretty easy at that point to throw out bad writing/plot holes/etc. to justify simply not liking the show because they're pretty much watching an entirely different show than those of who were grabbed by the show and have paid more attention to the story. And there's nothing wrong with that (although, I'll admit do find a few comments that come off as out-and-out hate for this show a little strange... but we've all had a pretty tough Covid Year, so I can understand why emotions are running a little high right now, haha.) Anyway, I've rambled on enough and inadvertently veered into what is probably an over-explanation of human nature, so... cheers to us who are enjoying this drama, and cheers to those who aren't - I hope you're watching something you enjoy as much as I'm enjoying watching this show :)

Wasn't really sold on this drama after the first few episodes, but I have to admit it's getting much better. I…
One of the things I'm really enjoying about this drama is that we, as viewers, are getting to know the leads in the same way they're getting to know each other. I didn't like either lead character at all in the first episode and actually almost dropped it then because of that. But, as the story goes on and we find out more of their backstories, I find myself becoming more sympathetic and drawn toward both characters, just like how the same thing is happening between both of them, which I think is really neat. It's a risky storytelling move to start off without a likeable character, but they executed it really well here and I think it's paying off nicely.

Pretty visuals and popular actors = high ratings. That's how things work here nowadays unfortunately lol.
Maybe in some cases with some people, but certainly not all. Personally, I'm enjoying this drama primarily because of the story. I've been a PBY fan for years, but really didn't like Abyss (which also had pretty visuals and popular actors) and rated it a 2. And I rated it so poorly mainly because I thought the storytelling was messy and they were, in fact, relying on those pretty visuals and popular actors to carry the story. That's not the case for me here. I think the storytelling in this drama has been pretty solid so far.

I've found the personification of Doom, as a literal character, to be rather more sympathetic over the average…
Very nicely stated in your spoiler comment, Lucy Bear. Great take on that aspect of the story.

Honestly, I was pretty excited for this drama cuz of the casting and everything but it’s sooo repetitive and…
Whereas I thoroughly drifted away from Law School because I found it tedious (despite liking the cast) but find the relationship dynamics in this drama fascinating. Our ML is, for the most part, along the usual tsundere line, but Park Bo Young's character is facing a variation of the trolley problem, where any choice she makes regarding their relationship will, at this point, have a bad outcome. I find the way the writer's dealing with our leads' respective issues being handled quite nicely in the story. However, I will easily admit that I can see how that wouldn't be fascinating for everyone :)

Why is the rating high when most of the comments were not favorable?
I think, in general, people are more vocal about something when they dislike it. I'm loving this drama so far, but have only posted 3 or 4 brief replies to other people's comments. But, if I don't like a drama, I'd be more inclined to make an unsolicited post about why I don't like it.
