I’m not trying to put ZZ down nor do I understand what credit am I giving credit to Xie Wei. And I did read the novel. Though the translations was so God awful. And yes he did help her in the past life but the repercussions from that has also kept him away from her in the current life. In the current life they both gave up on each other. Perhaps it’s because of the author that there’s not enough depth to their relationship not in the way of Xie Wei and JXN. For me it felt like JXN’s love for ZZ is more of idolizing him vs truly and deeply loving someone through thick and thin.

You are correct and I should’ve phrased it better. What I am simply trying to say is everyone is changed by what they experience. Some for the worse and some for the better. Everyone is capable of doing evil things. And it is a choice. I agree about JXN not having any ptsd is wrong but I don’t agree about the author whitewashing the crimes of yan Lin and Xie Wei from the 1st to the 2nd life. How can characters take accountability of a scenario that hasn’t even happened yet. They have absolutely no clue.

First and foremost, most people’s actions is dictated by their experiences. Yan Lin in the previous life did not start off cruel either. It was pushed by the actions of JXN. That’s why despite JXN’s memories she still cared and protected Yan Lin in this lifetime.

Or he can extinguish JXN’s fire completely with his self righteousness.

Many people here probably have not read the novel, so they don’t really know how truly dark he his. I myself did, and I still loved his character.

I feel like every one is going to argue over if they are team XW or team ZZ just like lost you forever (team jing or Xiang Liu) . The comments got pretty heated on that page.

It’s because people root for redemption. If the character is too perfect in a novel, then there’s very little character growth.

Yes but on the flip side could she really be with someone that she can’t truly be herself with? Zz is immovable when when it comes to right and wrong. He would rather die than do something that is dishonorable. If he ever did, he would not be able to forgive himself. Imagine being with someone that you feel you’re not good enough. Because that’s exactly how she feels about ZZ. JXN and XW are survivalist. They both have trauma and grew up with no love. When you brought up Katniss, you forget that she and Peter went through something that Gale would never understand.

Because his character have depth. It’s much more realistic than an oh so perfect honorable guy like ZZ. Also Xie Wei’s character allows growth. Despite his ruthlessness, he loves and cherishes the people that’s around him.

Idolizing is absolutely the correct word for ZZ and JXN. And frankly with XW she can be herself.

It’s as simple as this. Zz was her darkness in the first life. He made her want to be a better person but it was too late. In this life she clung onto that until she realized he too remembered the past and therefore cannot erase those memories. While this life JXN is XW’s light to his darkness. Because they are cut from the same cloth she wants to be the person to drag him out of it. While she idolized ZZ, there’s a much deeper relationship with XW. She is 100% herself with him. The good and the bad. And he loves her for it.

Zz is sweet but wrong for her in the long run. While XW and JXN is cut from the same cloth. They are both ruthless and cunning while ZZ is good, honest and straightforward. Perhaps that’s why JXN loved ZZ first because he is everything that she is not.
