A despondent and poignant exploration of the cruelty and bitterness faced by the queer people in the 70s. The attention to detail was really commendable, down from the costumes to the settings. Nothing was sugar coated and the harsh realty was exposed. Although i did feel that some storylines were a bit too unnecessary and were only there to add more drama and melancholy to the whole plot.
Considering watching this bit wondering if there is romance, i read that ml has multiple concubines, is that romantic?
The king is shown to have 3 concubines/consorts. But it is constantly portrayed and pointed out throughout the drama that the Queen is the only one he actually loves and trusts. Don't watch it for any romance. You'll be disappointed. Instead watch it for the intriguing court politics, all the backstabbing and drama and most of all for the Queen.
It's high time elders are held accountable for their actions and learn to say the word sorry to their kids. I think i was more irked than Dong Seok. And the way everyone around him behaved was more infuriating
I actually went in expecting a philosophical drama with some lessons about life, death and all that, but this was totally beyond my expectations and in the best possible ways. Not much can be said without giving away some major plot details and going in blind is the best way to savour it. Believe me when i say that it had more twists and turns than some thrillers. Was kinda sad that it ended but that ending had me grinning and smiling for a good time.
Yes, I agree. I don't think Natsuki loved Soichiro the way he loved her. It was definitely a lot more platonic…
Reading this feels like you took the thoughts from my mind. The first time the ending pissed me so much that i didn't even rate the drama. This time however, i understood what the writer was going for. Especially after understanding the real dynamics between soichiro and natsuki. Like i mentioned above, kuga leaving was the only reason natsuki and soichiro kinda got together (whatever you wanna term it) and hadn't he left, none of that would've happened. Like the dialogue you mentioned was the clear indication of natsuki's feelings towards both kuga and soichiro. Hence the reason i actually appreciated the ending this time.
Also i like to think of this drama as 'long vacation' in an alternate universe.
Okay so just completed a rewatch and this time i kinda understood and accepted the ending. Maybe I'm kinda reading too much into it but i don't really felt that natsuki loved soichiro or atleast not in the way he loved her. She definitely considered him 'her precious friend' and maybe caught some feelings too but all that after episode 9 just felt the result of kuga leaving and her heartbreak. While soichiro only had eyes for natsuki and got together with nazuna only out of his kindness, I'm sure natsuki would've never went to soichiro if kuga hadn't left.
Just my random thoughts and as i said maybe I'm reading too much into it. Also, the last episode was still stupid.
Hi can you tell me on which website you watched it? Thanks.
I downloaded it through torrent. Try yts or nyaa. It's also available on youtube so you can download from there. And subtitles are available on subscene.
The synopsis makes no sense because the drama makes no sense. Just some really unlikable characters with incoherent backstories. The only interesting part about it was the Maruchan lady plot but even that became quite tiresome till the end and it was easy to guess how it'll all end. Had no idea what went through the writer's mind to include that thing in the end.
Ok. This was way better on a second watch. I hated it 2 years ago and was surprised that i even decided to go through the torture again BUT i am so glad i did it.
The unnecessary WenXiu hate
Although i did feel that some storylines were a bit too unnecessary and were only there to add more drama and melancholy to the whole plot.
Also some appreciation for Tokan please. Hope she got her washboard😭
Never thought he could top the brilliance of brush up life.....yet here we are.

I didn't even cared if they get together or not.
Also, someone please smack that yoshida.
