All the bad things you mentioned were done by him during the first season. People actually want to know the reason behind his diligence if can not even be a good husband and father. Moreover, I have never seen a single person who likes S1 Dongjae. Thus his name the weasel. Actually, everyone hates him to the core. I mean Gi Hyeon might have committed suicide but the fact that remains is that he was still bullied by his teammates which is the exact reason why that kid committed all these crimes.
Though being a sequel of a well loved drama has its pros such as fixed viewers, the cons are much more. Expectations and the criticism that follows it, if not met, are quite common with sequels. I am sure that if it was a sequel and just a new drama, the ratings would have been much higher. Cause let's be honest here, the plot and topic of this part are much better than the first one. Yes, the first part was great but this one is equally deserving. And most of the criticism regarding this focused on the lack of Hwang-Han moments,lack of motive for the series(at least until Dongjae's kidnapping) and the lots and lots of politics and talks. I know that it lacked the interactions between the two leads but still that staircase scene in ep 12 was so worth it. And the Hwang-Jae moments were my favourite. Even that one scene with the trio outside the jail in EP 5 was so good. I mean there were still so many precious moments. And after EP 14 I am sure that everyone is back to their praise for the drama. I am happy that people trusted the writer and gave it a chance till the end. Wasn't it worth it?
Also i am all ready and just waiting for the announcement of the 3rd season.

These are exactly my thoughts regarding the two seasons. I couldn't have put them in better words. The first season was great not due to the plotline but because of the excellent execution and equally great characters and dialogues. I am actually loving the slow pace and the plotline of season 2 especially because the writer is using this as a chance to address several issues prevailing in the Korean society and trying to bring some change through a well loved series. But it should be noted that many viewers want more actions and interaction.
Wait..,, why are so many people hating Hwang Shi Mok's hairstyle. Yes it's different but not that bad. He still looks like a prosecutor and still maintains the charisma.
