Does anyone know if they merged Fei Nu with Chi Wu (another one of XJ’s men in the novel) in this series? In the novel, Fei Nu was a man of few words and pretty chic but the one in the drama seems to be a little dorkier (not a bad thing).
Shoutout to the leads for portraying their characters well. Wanted to show some love. I think they have done well so far and are consistent with the script and novel descriptions.
In my humble opinion, ZY has shown good range with the ability to change her expressions from warm to cold in scenes. She must have trained a lot for the action scenes, I was pretty impressed. CL has been very cool and chic but I am sure we will see his good ability to showcase microexpressions soon.
The villains and morally grey characters are quite good too. They did a good job casting each character.
As someone who loves the novel, this so far has been done very well.
I agree overall it so far has been done well in terms of making the story more compact (since it’s based on many chapters). I still wish they didn’t remove one of my favourite characters Lin Shuang He, and also create conflict between the main leads regarding XJ’s father. Other than that, I am still able to enjoy it as a standalone.
I really like ZY’s portrayal of HY too! Her ability to switch between her expressions in scenes was quite nice
Can someone explain why she had to be raised under her brother's name? And why did the brother come back suddenly…
The brother was sick. Actually in the novel, he was her cousin (seems like they changed this). They were unsure if he would even survive so sent him away to recuperate while HY took his place to ensure they still have an “heir” to maintain their He family’s status. Later on HRF ended up getting better and surviving so they wanted the two to switch places.
Xiao Jue cares about the people, men and women. He said he didn’t want to deal with it at that moment (He Yan…
Yes, their views of women and the role of women are actually different. XJ had a broader view as a man of that era vs CZ. One of the main reasons why HY could not be with someone like CZ.
I think they may touch on this more in the scene between HY and CZ when they talk about women (saw in the trailer), which aligns with the novel
For reference ep 9 is around chp 100 of the novel. He finds out the whole truth at chapter 215. They confess their…
Yeah Chu Zhao and the girl who liked XJ (named Shen Mu Xue) acted as romantic plot devices that allowed the leads to realize their feelings. Also we had a wingman/ captain of our ship named Lin Shuang He (XJ’s good friend who apparently was merged with Cheng Li Su’s) character that supported them throughout their relationship
Just started this. Why is the ML so expressionless? Is he attempting to play this character as strong and stoic?…
Pretty in line with the character in the novel, he is supposed to be chic and unbothered by anyone or anything. Someone hard to get close to. Even after falling in love and whatnot, his smiles or laughs are subdued. Just more reserved kinda guy (keeps everything inside) lol.
Cheng Lei is supposed to be good with expressing his feelings through his eyes so I am sure we will see more of that once he opens up as the story progresses
female characters will always be criticised no matter what they do or how they act. we’ve seen it over and over…
I think constructive criticism on the story is fair but am very surprised by the number of comments on her physical build and personality (didn’t think that would be a huge deal). As someone who has read the novel, I understood why ZY and CL were casted and so far they are portraying the characters pretty accurately per novel/script. But even without knowledge from the novel, this isn’t a surprise.
This isn’t the first gender bender series where the FL still looks “feminine” even when cross-dressing. I wonder what the comments would be if she was more built, tall with a less “feminine” look. I thought we were all past this as being believable or not given the number of gender bender dramas over the years. And yes we may think cruelty can make a person cold and ruthless, but that doesn’t happen to everyone. She has more compassion because of it (like some ppl in real life). And do we not see the other sides of her when she isn’t smiling or being so “bubbly/cute” especially through her internal monologue and behind the scenes? She is a pretty layered character with contradicting sides and has shown her ruthlessness towards those who want her dead. By nature she is outgoing (especially now that she can live as herself) but is also a wise and intelligent person who can think outside the box.
I dunno why I am even commenting on this I guess I was just taken aback by the number of comments. Tbh I see a lot of range with ZY so far (esp with XJ has only shown a serious/cold face so far)
This drama is sooooooo good. Cheng Lei does such a great job making Zhou Ye looks good in this story. Just like…
I think ZY shines well on her own (better than expected). They both are doing well portraying their roles and really look the part based on their novel descriptions
Haters are bitter about He Yan's childlike act towards Xiao Jue, and here I am...LET HER BE!!! No one ever spoiled…
Am I the only one who doesn’t think she acts childlike at all? She is just a friendly person, ppl love her for her easygoing personality. Quite consistent with how she was in the novel. But even for those who didn’t read the book, it’s telling that she is very wise and clever, hiding her inner thoughts behind a smile.
And yes only XJ gives her the freedom and space to be herself. She feels safe with him
surely not happening soon in the drama, certainly towards the end
Seeing the pacing, we will see the romance much earlier on in the drama (I bet there’ll be a lot of fluff in the next week). Also, they seem to emphasize on the romance more in the drama. It took a while for XJ to warm up in the novel - very slow burn, and he usually shows his care through actions than words.
In terms of marriage, it’s more satisfying to have it at the end tbh
she's different on the battlefield and her enemies, we're not there yet. idk what type of general you are expecting…
Her character was written this way in the novel. She would hide everything behind a smile, which is why the ML would notice the contradictions in her as a person. Confident and stern on the battlefield yet someone with deep insecurities (from her upbringing), cheerful but can be ruthless, dorky but very clever. She’s been treated poorly but I think that’s why she has more grace and compassion for others
I think you guys are judging too harshly. there has only been 6 episodes released 😅 youre saying she isn't…
Are there really complaints about her being weak??? Did they not see her fight?? Man if they read the novel, this would be going on for many chapters (since being reborn in a new fragile body resulted in her starting from scratch).
In my humble opinion, ZY has shown good range with the ability to change her expressions from warm to cold in scenes. She must have trained a lot for the action scenes, I was pretty impressed. CL has been very cool and chic but I am sure we will see his good ability to showcase microexpressions soon.

Hope it continues to do well!
