I was going to rate this higher but they dragged it out way too long and the ending was not nearly satisfying enough for the wait. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the first 10 episodes or so. The acting and characters are great (the Lawless Team is the best!), the story is interesting, and I liked the overall feel of the show (kind-hearted gangsters? Yes, please). Comedy was on point, as well. Just should have been 10-12 episodes, not 16.
Truly satisfying! First 10 star rating I've given. This show had everything; cathartic revenge, found family, humor, touching stories, likable characters, great OST, killer fight scenes, no romance....just perfect.
I tried to watch this to the end, but made it to episode 12 (which was a pain to do) then skipped through all of 13-16, and didn't care about anything that happened. This show just made me angry and frustrated. I cared for no one so I didn't root for anyone, and when someone died I was just like "oh well" and that's not a good a sign. I'm a huge fan of murder/mystery/crime/cop dramas and I'm actively glad this is over and I can move on.
Does the ML and FL end up together??? I might drop it if they do. Don't know how a sociopath could love someone, so I'm confused by some of the comments. I'm here for a good mystery and a cold ML; romance is a no for me.
I tried but it was so annoying I stopped after watching episode 1 and skimming through episode 2. Maybe it gets better but I didn't have the patience to find out.
I think about this show daily. Sui Zhou has my heart and my tears. Wang Zhi has my soul and my tears. Tang Fan has my reluctant amusement and a wish for better character development. And my tears.
Is this show frustrating? Like ridiculous situations that could be resolved by talking or anything like that? Happy ending? I love a good drama but don't hate myself enough to stew in frustration for an entire show.
Heavy drama with lots conflict? Or suitable for me as I want something light. Because I want to take a break from…
Very light, especially compared to my usual fare, which is mostly crime/thrillers involving serial killers. It's very heart warming at times, laugh out loud funny at others, and most drama/conflict is resolved fairly quickly! Honestly this show made we weep in the best way. There are heavy themes (it's set in prison, after all) but nothing gets dragged out. The best thing is the characters; I got so attached to the boys (guards and prisoners alike) I forgot they were actors sometimes. I really hope you love it if you decide to try it!
My favorite drama so far. Binged it over two days and I'm already rewatching it with my best friend. Everything (acting, story, production, OST) gets ten stars. Everything was perfect, except the romance* (boring and so unnecessary I skipped all those parts and still followed the story perfectly) and the odd way they portrayed drug addiction. But I will forgive them because I can't get over how much I loved everything else (the actors, omg). Best part, by far, is the bromance. It is so on point I tear up just thinking about it. It's that good.
This show is all about the characters, so if you want to watch a great story about truly likable people give Prison Playbook a try. (But be prepared to cry over them.)
*To be honest I hate romance story lines/sub plots, so maybe I'm biased and you'll enjoy the romance.
