Such a simple story but told in such a beautiful manner. The story speaks to the soul, so raw, so honest, so sincere. The moments of nostalgia, of regret, of longing, of hope and of dreams. The last song put me through a roller coaster of emotions.
So happy that this drama has allowed more people to take notice of Zheng Ye Chen. Have watched many of his dramas and he is someone with great acting skills, has range, looks and talent.
May he continue to have good resources and plenty of good scripts coming his way cause we need such good actors!
I have a long list of pending dramas to watch but somehow out of all of them, this is the only one that I actually like and look forward to new episodes everyday!
The chemistry between the lead couple is so sweet, the acting is great and the tone of the drama is fun and light with a proper storyline. It is all in all a very enjoyable watch!
Zheng Ye Cheng is such a great actor and his acting never disappoints. Zhao Qing did such a great job portraying her character as a cute, simple and lively girl, all without ever overdoing it or becoming cringey.
It was an interesting premise but I feel that the story-line didn't manage to fully utilize its potential. It was still a lovey and sweet drama coupled with palace drama and case solving.
First off, 10/10 acting from Kim You Jung! She was able to pull off such a complex character, showing every possible emotion and brought the intensity this drama needed. Marvelous, perfection! Also, props to Kim Young Dae, Kim Do Hoon, Hwang In Youp! Each played an integral part to bring this story alive.
It is refreshing how this drama was committed in showing that Ah Jin was truly evil and lacked humanity. Yes, she was dealt a bad hand with a horrible childhood. Initially, her actions though extreme, was justifiable. But slowly she evolved into a monster that drives people to their ruins just because they crossed her. "Why must I suffer?" - This is her mindset for everything.
However at every terrible stage of her life, there was always someone who wanted to pull her out of the hell she was in. The teacher in school, Yun Jun Seo, Kim Jae O, Kim Ji Hoon (coffee shop owner), Heo In-Gang and his grandmother. Each time she chose evil over benevolence, each time shredding up her chance of a normal peaceful life.
I feel Yun Jun Seo represents the viewers. He accompanied Ah Jin through every step taken towards her depravity. How we allowed actions to slide because we understood what she has been through. But gradually we realise Ah Jin was not going to stop, her greed has turned her into a monster. The train has derailed and we partly allowed it to happen, thus we will be the ones to try to stop her.
I get that the ending is not to everyone's liking but the rating is really quite unreasonable. Yes, it has it's flaws and yes it is not a perfect 10/10 drama but 6.5? Neh I don't agree..
For the rating to drop this drastically in less than 3 days, I feel people are rating the overall drama based solely on how much they like the ending....
I was thinking there's no way the ratings for this will be lower than Fight for Love...boy was I wrong 😦
It just boils down to personal preference. I personally prefer Love and Crown over Fight for Love. At least Love and Crown's main plot made more sense and had more depth.
guys i have not watched this ..is this really that bad?
Give it a watch, it isn't that bad. Most of the low ratings is likely due to people not liking the ending, which does not mean a drama is bad. I personally quite enjoyed the drama myself.
The last 5 episodes were quite baffling to me. For all the buildup of this big battle between the hunters and Aunt Lin, it just kind of fell flat.
The way the drama hyped up the Nanshan Hunters to be a group of specialized warriors, the manner in which they fought was underwhelming. Instead of a skilled battle, their way of fighting was just running headlong into their enemies, often resulting in needless sacrifices. The climax battle between Jiu Luo and Aunt Lin was over under 3 mins and it was someone else that finished Aunt Lin. They didn't manage to save any of their companions, and in turn lost many of their own, the big bad was finished by a cave dweller, so I hardly call that a satisfying win.
With the final 2 episodes being an amnesia arc, it doesn't seem like a good way to end what was suppose to be a thrilling and dark drama.
Side note: Was there no further development into what Aunt Lin injected into Lin Ling? The whole time I was anticipating for some kind of plot twist but there wasn't anything (unless I missed it). Also, kind of weird that when Lin Ling told Yan Tuo what occurred, he didn't even suggest a medical check up or blood test, just told her to be careful and left.
I particularly enjoyed how the drama decided not to fully explain to viewers what is a Di Xiao within the first episode. Instead of a long drawn out exposition scene, we were able to slowly find out together with Yan Tuo in the first 5 episodes. It is almost like we are piecing the mystery together and the suspense really made it fun.
The storyline seems to be good but I can't get over the ultra cutesy voice of the FL and how childish the character is portrayed. The actress doesn't seem to fit this role/image well (nothing against her).
Also the excessive random sound effects used just seems forceful to make a moment "comedic", it is jarring and kills the moment. It almost seemed like the production team bought a new sound effect pack and went all out with it.
Tbh the drama isn't as bad as many put it out to be, it has its shortfalls but definitely still worth watching. All the actors did a fantastic job and the story did try to make every character interesting and multi-layered. Every character had a purpose and was integral to the story.
I really like Ren Jialun's character, he showed the darkness of the palace and burdens of being Emperor. In many dramas, they tend to romanticize the Emperor, always being softhearted and fairytale like. Here, Xiao Huan is willing the make the tough decisions that benefits the bigger picture even though it brings him harm.
For me, the issue this drama had is putting the entire final arc on Du Ting Xin. The amount of power & influence she wields in the palace isn't logical which I feel contributed to some parts not making sense. While many are unhappy with the ending, I kind of understand why the leads had to do what they did. Hope people realize that BE does not equate to a bad drama.
Just finished the first 2 episodes and WOW! What a masterclass in storytelling and pacing of the drama. During the first 10 mins of ep 1, I thought I mistakenly clicked ep 5 but nope, the show just goes straight into the action. No super long voiceover narration to set the scene, just immediately showing us the ML fighting, the introduction of the FL is also done superbly well.
The mark of a good scriptwriter, even though many characters were introduced within the short span of 2 episodes, I somehow can follow the story and understand how these people fit into the overall plot. Also they managed to show us the backstory of Su Mu Yu and Su Chang He all while present time Su Mu Yu is racing to save his Master + introducing the FL.
Gosh this has to be the best first 2 episodes I have seen this year. I am immediately taken straight to the high point and I am sooooo excited to watch the rest!
Are we watching the same show? The fight for justice has started from ep 3 and the heart fluttering love between…
Sometimes it is just the case of the drama not being your cup of tea, happens to me as well. There are so many drama airing now, hope you can find one you enjoy!
Watched till ep 17 and the leads are finally in their element! Ah totally love the fight scenes, both leads are doing a fantastic job! Ding Yuxi as usual is bringing his A game in his acting and expressions.
For the many female general trope this year, the 2 female actresses that I feel pulled this off well would be Li Qin (from Fated Hearts) and Song Qian (as Chu Yu here). The way they execute the fighting choreography is very convincing, there is actually power and strength in their movement.
Also loving the 3 Song siblings, 3 vastly different personalities, with none being useless and all united as one. Happy that Wei Yun has them to rely upon. Chu Lin Yang is also a nice surprise, thought the drama would just sideline him as the FL's brother but he is actually playing an active role and assisting Chu Yu.

Yup cause the first to fall in love is Wei Yun, so it makes sense that Chu Yu does not display as much "heat" yet. But from ep 17, it seems that she will realize those feelings soon.
It is a 40 episode drama, can't expect everything to be there immediately, its the build up that makes it fun.
The trailer for this had me hyped for a dynamic, compelling, butterfly inducing, taboo love story where the chemistry…
Are we watching the same show? The fight for justice has started from ep 3 and the heart fluttering love between the 2 leads is heating up since ep 14!
The last song put me through a roller coaster of emotions.
10/10! A must watch!
