I just started, and I'm on episode 7. Why the 7.8 rating?
It's very draggy in places. And I wasn't particularly drawn in by the main leads' romance. But there's a reasonably exciting climax to ep 30 or so. After that, it's just redundant to me.
Catching up on this now. I find one of the most interesting dynamics in this whole show has been between Wei Yun and Gu Chusheng. And thankfully in the last twenties episodes, it features more of their scenes together.
I was halfway episode 3 and I was liking it so far and even had the rating at 9 but I had to drop it after the…
I guess we disagree, and that’s fine. Sexual tension to me is just another way to describe chemistry between two people onscreen. It doesn’t mean necessarily that any character at any time actually wants to be in a romantic relationship. It’s how the audience reads their relationship (in whatever form, romantic or not in actuality). For me, the leads’ relationship onscreen lacks such chemistry, but maybe for others it works, and that’s all good too. It’s just hasn’t worked for me. I’m going watch to the end since I’m already at ep 30, so we’ll see what happens.

I think beyond the lack of logic that occurs on some of the characters’s actions (not uncommon in these types of dramas), what is really not working for me is the lack of chemistry or sexual tension between the leads. It’s probably a combination of things, including how the female lead’s character is set up. It’s played a bit too cutsey for me, when it should have this edge of forbidden love and restraint or tension.
Anyone wanting to check this out, I encourage you to watch all the way to the end to make up your mind about it. It's going to be hard - the characters are more like sketches, archetypes and not really fully fleshed out. Love story? Virtually non-existent - it's more of the idea of love that this drama is depicting. This is largely a symbolic story (and trilogy if you consider the 2 other dramas that came before it) that unfortunately (for me at least) did not build or earn the message it was trying to convey - that love is the most powerful force and can truly conquer all.
I am on ep 28 and while I admit I am not a fan of Cheng Yi, I can enjoy his acting if the story is compelling.…
I think mostly for me it’s the script that is the main problem. But I wish also that Cheng Yu would be able to act in a different kind of role in the future.
I know, I’ll probably finish it in the next few days just to get it done. I don’t review dramas unless I finish them, so I guess it’s worth finishing just so I can put my many thoughts that I have on this drama into words
