I just finished and left a similar comment on the thread. What the actual fuck?! One of the most toxic red flag ML ever. The verbal, mental and physical abuses were romanticized into this supposed ‘til death do us part type of relationship. They gave us Yan Lin and ZZ but failed her with XW.

I just finished the series and I’m going to hold off on talking about the plot but jump right into the “romance.” I’m putting it in quotation marks because I questioned the sincerity of it between the leads.

ML is one of the biggest red flags. Ever. Allow me to break down my points so you can fight me later.

- He obsessively claimed her. This was fine for his own delusions but she repeatedly told him, she belonged only to herself. When he couldn’t have her, control her or felt like she didn’t listen to him, he became a psychotic manipulator.

- He got physical with her on multiple occasions and rarely was he respectful towards her. He repeatedly grabbed her by the throat (the throat!!), by the arm, wrist, and made verbal threats to her.

- He became madly possessive. She couldn’t look at another man before he choked her and threatened her.

- Their kisses were grossly forced upon her by him. When he asked her to be intimate, she gave in but left me wondering WTF and HTF did we get here?! This man manipulated her and it was romanticized as love?!

- She told 3 people she loved him before she even told him. Another WTF moment for me.

- The ending.. when he deliberately stepped on his son’s shirt to trip him and then kicked the poor boy after? Was that supposed to be funny and playful? Because it failed to be funny and playful to me. Even his daughter was shook.

I watched 30 episodes and waited for the romance between the leads to start. I endured her giving up two potential great men for the ML only to be given 8 episodes of chaos.

I’m not a him. Don’t assume that because I watch Bl that i must be a male. Please learn to broaden your perspective.

Saying I’m bewildered by the 8.8 does not constitute to disrespecting the series. Stating a subjective opinion on a series does not equal disrespect. It is called a public forum for a reason. You jumping on and making the ignorant assumption why I didn’t like series and making narrow minded judgment towards a specific genre of series is disrespectful. I don’t think English is your fluent language because you do not seem to understand.

I have yet to finish this series and will leave a more in depth review on why it’s a 7 but guess what? I’m still watching and understanding the plot. You dropped WRTW but you still left it a bad review (which is fine) but you used it as an example to this debate which is the real bewildering fact. I never said people can’t like Kunning Palace. You ‘re just mad because you’re immature about it.

You did indeed attack me because instead of debating why you disagreed on why I didn’t like certain points of the series, you took the time to briefly read my profile without understanding anything about me and came back to say that I didn’t like this because it wasn’t gay enough. It’s gross that you said that. Be more mindful of others and their preferences.

Oh wow… I just remembered that movie. Damn that was a long time ago. Rain and Lee Jun came to Hollywood and left just as soon as they landed. Hollywood wasn’t ready and they’re now starting to give Asian cinema more opportunities. Netflix is also funding so many Asian films. I’m hoping this momentum continues to grow.

I have it on hold as well. I went from Sweet Home S2 to G Creature and had to take a break. Too many monsters, so little time. Have you seen The Marvel? I haven’t but fans complained that he only had like 3 mins of screen time 🤣

Omg I couldn’t get into Hwarang either even though I love me some Park Seo Jun! I can’t even go back to watch now with all the new series coming out. I’m so behind but it’s a good problem to have!

Yea I also heard from others to wait until after episode 30 for the romance but I feel like even before this, they did a poor job leading up to the romance. FL was focused on so many other issues and SMLs before then so it wasn’t convincing like you said.

The plot is interesting indeed but the execution is poor. I’m going to write a more in depth review once I finish it but so far it’s still a 7 for me.

It took me some time to start WRTW but once I committed, it was a fun watch. Season 2 of Sweet Home wasn’t as good as Season 1. I just need S3 so the stories can wrap up.

You’re still not understanding what you’re talking about but you continue to pretend that you have a deeper insight on the subject matter. You claim that you read manga regarding BL, however, you continue to ridicule that particular genre. Reading the manga and watching the actual BL series are two different things. I wouldn’t get jumpy on the subject If you didn’t use it to make assumptions and highlight why you assumed that I’m giving this series a low rating. By the way, a 7 out of 10 is not even considered a low rating, so maybe calm
down. I am able to say how I feel about the rating on this site regarding the series because again it is considered subjective. If you agree on the fact that this is subjective, why do you continue to be on the defensive side? You keep bringing up the topic of being respectful, and yet you continue to disrespect different genre and perspectives and ratings on the series. Also, you watched only 2 episodes of WRTW and yet you rated it a 1/10. So technically, you dropped the series without even getting into the core of the plot. Why would you bring this up as an example? Why would you think that if the majority felt this series is good, it must be good to me? That logic is weak.

I’m not going to continue to “debate” this topic matter with you because I feel like I’m going around the circle talking to a 12-year-old.

I’m going to entertain you for a bit and respond. But coming from someone who has no knowledge regarding BL or its community, I suggest you refrain from making further assumptions to avoid coming off like an obnoxious hetero series fanatic. First, BL series are rated from a different perspective. BL series are banned in certain countries and have limited funding in most (aside from Thailand where the majority are mass produced). These series are not just for entertainment, but to also bring acknowledgement to the community and raise awareness. In this community, we understand the limited circumstances given to the series, therefore, we are very flexible in our ratings.

Again, you apologized for jumping to conclusion and yet you continue to do so. MDL does not reflect all of the series that I’ve seen. I also don’t leave reviews for all of the ones I’ve seen given the limited time that I have. Therefore, this is not a clear reflection of my preference, ideologies or ratings. You are generalizing and taking a small fraction of my viewings to assume that I am giving this series a mediocre rating simply because it is not a BL. You said you didn’t bother reading my reviews and that’s why you’re still making bias assumptions. Don’t speak about things you clearly don’t understand. And if you took the time to look clearly, you could see that I am watching more hetero series instead of clouding my judgment with Bl series. Again, don’t speak unless you know what you’re talking about. I don’t even have this series listed but now I will add it on there to satisfy you.

You were not being nice in accepting my so- called dislike of the series. You made a very sensitive comment insinuating that I did not like the series because it did not feature gay couples. This is as offensive and insensitive as it comes. You were being very unkind and ignorant.

I am on episode 30 where she wants to leave the capital and run away since she did not feel as though she helped save anyone. I stated in my original post that I am only on ep 30 therefore, to me, she is a damsel in distress since she continues to cause problems and has to be saved by the ML and SML. She’s even acknowledged multiple times that if it weren’t for the ML, she would’ve died a long time ago since she made so many enemies. She is rather impulsive on some of her actions.

I can criticize the music all I want. It is subjective.

You said you wouldn’t rate Sweet Home or WRTW as high because you considered them mediocre and yet, because I rate this series lower, you’re throwing hands in the air to defend it so blindedly. Just because I didn’t like the series as much as you did, you shouldn’t jump you conclusion that it’s due to the genre. I’m actually watching ZLH in Story of Kunning Palace right now. I love the mad man role for him.

The FL lead here is all natural. She’s been a true beauty since birth. You can see her pics from childhood until now and she’s always been stunning.

I prefer more manly actors so SK has never been my top in visuals but he has a very youthful handsome face for youthful roles. I don’t think he’s suitable for a dark role. I’ve seen him in Sweet Home and he’s just a cuddly cute monster to me.

I’m almost done (on ep 30) and that damn song is getting on my nerves, y’all. It’s like a distress call from a widow hyena.

The director here has an unhealthy obsession with hands. They always showing hands- clasping in anger, fear, anxiety, joy 🤦🏻‍♀️ We get it.

But honestly, this has a 8.8 and I’m bewildered by it. It’s a good 7. The plot has so many plotholes. The characters are mediocre. The villains are dumb af. The FL isn’t that likable to me. This damsel in distress business is getting old.

Even on 1.5 speed, I could not wait to finish this damn series. What a joke to the actors. Who wrote this script? A 12 year old Twilight fan?

- What demon? He was a hopeless romantic with a side hustle involving fire.
- what murder mystery? Just crazy people playing with fire.
-What villains? Just cray crays over acting and shitting their pants over nothing.
- What chemistry? Just 2 gorgeous people looking gorgeous while doing gorgeous things together.
-What deep insightful message were we supposed to get out of this? Never trust a Netflix show with pretty people.

They only got 2 more episodes to wrap everything up and I don’t think it’s enough time! 😫
