Ep 3 was unpleasant to watch. Once again, we drag out the ugly stereotype of an old effeminate gay man being a…
Agreed. I think Allison (Jaime) is just a bad actor. His whole range seems to be "I'm sexy and hot, with a mysterious air." But it just comes across as poor acting.
The My Day actor was horrible and embarrassing.
I have no idea what this series is supposed to be about, except I fully expect the two male leads to be together at the end. Yawn.
Just chiming in to say that I'm glad MDL has altered the first sentence of the synopsis here. It now says "Chonlatee, a shy kind hearted boy... " Much better than what it said before: "Chonlatee, a shiny boy with a love heart... "
Really, I'm not making fun of translations, and I do appreciate anyone who writes in English, when it is not their first language. But I kept wondering, what's a "shiny" boy?
Does anyone else feel like the sex scenes between Max/Tul are just obligatory? I mean, sure, I've been a fan of theirs all through the TWM series and they have a hot chemistry, no doubt.
But here -- at least to me -- it seems misplaced and unnecessary, When I watched Ep. 7, I just felt like "okay, they had to put in a Knock/Korn sex scene, because that's what everyone expects."
I honestly feel like this series would be better without it.
Though I do understand your point, I think the difference lies with whether Fonzy can agree for himself to be…
Another question (sorry!)... I know that there will be some straight people and gay people that are fine with dating bisexuals... but, to avoid possible biphobia, do bisexuals feel "safer" dating each other? (I guess there's no stock answer to that question.)
Though I do understand your point, I think the difference lies with whether Fonzy can agree for himself to be…
Thanks again for your insightful comments. Agreed.
Gay male here. I totally agree that polyphobia would be hatred against polyamorous people. Honestly, I would like to become more clear as to what biphobia means. For me, it is hatred against bisexuals, just as homophobia is hatred against gays.
Many have called Karleen biphobic but, to me, I don't think that term quite applies, because Karleen doesn't hate bisexuals. Karleen is a lesbian and has said she doesn't want to date bisexual women. (I am not a fan of the Karleen character for other reasons.)
Homophobia, biphobia, polyphobia, etc. are terms of hate. I feel that a different term -- if we even need to categorize it -- should be used for people with Karleen's outlook.
Just my two cents. Any other opinions are welcome.
I find it interesting that they are bringing the topic of polyamory into the series.
There has been a lot of discussion about biphobia, and what it means (or doesn't mean). Karleen was called biphobic for being a lesbian who didn't want to date bisexual women. So, let's say Fonzy doesn't want to date polyamorous guys. Would that make him polyphobic?
Does polyphobia exist? And if so, what does it mean?
Okay, I guess they're real, but boo hoo. She brought this on herself, 100%. Pearl had options, if she was uncomfortable with dating two women at once, she could have said no. I think we have to chalk this up to a growing experience for Pearl, and hope she comes out better as a result.
Then Pearl Next Door is probably not for you. We're on Ep. 6 now. The first five eps were chat videos, but Ep. 6 was mostly in person and got very heated. Two episodes left, I don't know if they're going back to chat videos or not.
" white-worshiping colorist thailand would." what do you mean?
I'll take your word for it. Although I could name more tan skinned male BL actors if I started looking through all the cast lists. But I understand that they are in the minority, amongst lighter skinned actors.
Is it possible that there are not as many darker skinned Thais in the acting industry? I'm in the US, and for a long time there were very few Asians in the acting industry. But the truth is that there really weren't all that many Asians going into the acting profession, and much of the small percentage were beaten out by better actors. I'm sure racism was a factor at times... but so was talent.
That has changed a lot now, at least in the states.
I am also skeptical about the guy harrassing Karleen but I hope you are careful about such accusation even though…
Of course I take any sort of harassment seriously in real life. As this is a series, it's okay to rewatch and come to our own conclusions/theories, as we try to figure out the motives of the characters. No need to tread lightly. Karleen seems very suspicious, to me. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Pearl may not be directly deceiving anyone, but she's definitely been "going with the flow." One thing I appreciated Alex asking flat out was "What do you want?" What DOES Pearl want? Does SHE even know? I certainly have no clue... except I get the feeling Pearl wants Karleen and never really had real feelings for Alex.
I am so with you on that line of Karleen's, "You don't understand!" That had me shaking my head, too. Like you, I hope we'll find out what that means. Can't wait to find out how Pearl reacts to Alex's ultimatum! (I'm thinking she will stay with Karleen... or may just leave both of them.)
I don't trust Karleen at all. Yes, she had her story in check: she knew about the resort, she was stressed and had to get away, it was a total coincidence that she ran into Alex and Pearl, she promised to stay out of their way and it was a coincidence that her dinner table was so close to theirs, etc., etc., etc. BUT...
KARLEEN CALLED. Right when Pearl arrived at the resort, Karleen called Pearl. Whyyy? (Pearl chose not to answer, so good for her.)
SHE DIDN'T LEAVE. Karleen claims to have been so stressed out over thinking about Pearl with Alex, that she had to go somewhere to clear her head. So, if Karleen were SO stressed over imagining Pearl with Alex, why in the hell would she want to stay there and witness the very thing she was trying to avoid? She needed to leave.
THE POOL SCENE. Why would Karleen hang out at the pool, EXACTLY at the same time that Alex and Pearl were there? And if she was there first, she should have left. She knew damn well she was interfering with Pearl and Alex's time.
THE DINNER TABLE. Come on, it was established that the resort didn't take on many guests, so the likelihood of Karleen having dinner at the same time as Alex/Pearl was like 99%. Karleen could have discussed room service with a waiter, without having to sit down at a table.
THE HARASSMENT. It appears that the obnoxious guy was indeed harassing Karleen for a couple of minutes. Not cool. But did anyone notice how quickly the guy got up and left, right at the moment Alex started getting angry? I think Karleen talked this guy into acting like a creep, just for the purpose of ruining Pearl's date with Alex. If you can, watch again. The second Alex starts yelling at Pearl, the guy calmly stands up from the table and walks away, while Karleen stares up at Alex and Pearl. And Karleen was up at Alex and Pearl's table in a heartbeat, wasn't she?
Hmmmmmmm...
My take: Karleen needs a therapist. Alex is too honest for her own good (she's 24... how many 24-year-olds have been in a relationship lasting more than a year? Many have never been in one). But I'm most disappointed in Pearl. I'm all for casual dating (which is probably what she should do for awhile), but she's acting like she's the Queen of Sheba (bikini reveal, hello?), clearly enjoying the mega-attention from two hot women, as she decides to give "the prize" of being in a relationship with her to "the lucky winner." Gross.
You've made such great points here, thank you! I'll add this...At the rate this is going (and I could be wrong),…
So true! Off the top of my head, the only rapist that ever got punished was in "The Effect," but that was clearly a drama with no comedy in it. (I know there have been a few others, but the titles escape me at the moment.)

You might want to try watching just Episode 6, here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7xv-_wt7O8&ab_channel=TheIdeaFirstCompany (To start at the in person part, go to 9:47.)
