It wasnt a miscast since they need someone pretty for the role and he suit Chang Yi's beautiful features. They also need someone with range that can do naive and later jaded and he suit the character to a T as well.

Plus, the drama is a hit in China. And that summer 2022, mermaid theme are being revived back to show the popularity of the drama.

This is actually a very unique drama. The FL's costumes are indeed ugly but she make it up with her personality. I usually cant stand idol dramas but this is one of the few that I actually enjoy. The story is interesting and the characters are lovable.

I actually like that Allen Ren took this drama. At least he has a CEO drama in his resume and a good one at that.

He did not have no kiss policy in his contract. Its made up by antis and being spread as facts on the net. When he did them in his dramas (the latest in The Blue Whisper in 2022), then they comes out with another dumb excuse. I wish this melon would die since it is not true at all lol.

But if you did watch The Blue Whisper, then you know it is not true since he has like 6 kissing scenes in that drama. I wonder why you still spread something that is not the truth despite you already know it.

I'm also very shocked with the ratings. But it is very well written though. Do watch it since its amazing.

I think people have trouble appreciating story with depth and substance and prefers story with fast rewards. I cant really blame them though but for me, this is how a drama should be written, a balance with everything.

Fantastic script! I'm in awe with how with details the story is written. One of my very favorite dramas from 2023. The chemistry between the leads is great and I love their couch times so so so much. This how you wrote how 2 people falling in love.

Allen Ren is so fluffy in this role. He is very huggable and has fantastic arcs throughout the story. And this is where he killed it by playing 4 different characters in this drama. I thought Angelababy did really well as well. This drama is like my comfort watch now. It is so well written and has this calm and soothing vibe that I truly adore.

I love Allen Ren's role in this drama. He wasnt playing cold and aloof character but a bubbly and talkative similar to his real life personality. Due to that, this drama is highly entertaining and funny.
And his relationship with his bff is the best.

I actually really like the plot. Its pretty different than normal Cdramas since here, the ML and FL's families are enemies with each other but they got married and have good relationship with each other. I really like the ML's mum and FL is written as someone strong and clever and very resourceful.

Watch this drama is you wish to watch something different. I'm amazed that they actually making a drama with unique troupe like this and make it work.

This is not true. The no kissing scenes / he has iron-clad contract on physical intimacy / his wife is his agent is all made up by haters at Weibo. He did them, all you have to do is actually watch his dramas then you know it is not the truth. I wish this melon would die since it is not true at all lol. He has a lot of kisses in Glory of Tang Dynasty and Blue Whisper. And all these kissing scenes were done AFTER his marriage.

And he usually acting in non-romantic roles. However, all his romantic roles are such big hits at China with latest being One & Only, Forever & Ever and Blue Whisper. So, I guess people just love to watch him in those roles. 😅 But its okay if you dont enjoy them since after all, everyone has different taste.

I thought he has good chemistry with mostly all his female co-stars lol. Indeed showing chemistry is very subjective. It wasnt hot!hot! but I Iike the relaxing aura that his drama couplings always gives to me which makes watching his dramas highly satisfying. I thought his chemistry with Bailu in One & Only and Forever & Ever is one of the best I've seen. And his CP with Seven Tan are really popular at China which caused trouble for his real life since the fans are pretty unhinged. Though I have to admit he probably didnt have chemistry with Li Qin. 😂

I think that many people would always watch Forever and Ever from the surface only. The drama actually really full of depth when you look closely on the details. I think many fan edit videos of this drama really highlighted a lot of things that most people will see it to be something unimportant. Then when you read the analysis, then you will be even more impressed with how much thoughts are put into the drama. Even as simple scene to show how Zhousheng Chen chose his suit when he went to visit Shiyi's parents, we see him chose black first then change it the blue, since that is the color Shiyi is wearing at that time. I only realize it after my 100th rewatch of the drama. 😂

Also, a very awesome analysis by AnonDevourerOfWorlds@reddit that said Mei Xing (the evil Crown Prince from One & Only) got everything that the past Zhousheng Chen has; be it good look, charisma, healthy body, can drink a lot of alcohol now but Shiyi, still only look at Zhousheng Chen despite he is the opposite of his past self. Why? because she still see his inner beauty; his thoughtfulness, his kindness and his gentleness. Everything else is secondary to her. That is why the caressing of his nose is a thing in both dramas, since she sees him for his beautiful bones, instead of his beautiful face, whether in the past or the present. And thats make the drama stands out to me.

In China, its actually normal to wear coats inside the house. I read a comment before that explained the phenomenon.

IKR? All he did is smile when she said something. I love his smiles. It is so beautiful! He need to do this kind of roles more often.

lol. I also want a kiss but knew they cant put that in the drama because she was betrothed to the CP since birth. If the writer put a kiss just to satisfy the viewers, it will not follow the characters design for the 2 of them which is honorable and responsible.

I first rated it 9/10. Then recently I made a rewatch and noticed more details in the story which really took my breath away. Bumped it up to 10/10 lol.

This drama is a masterpiece. I wont pretend its not anymore.

Even if One & Only ended tragically, it also very calm and comforting when the two of them are together on screen because they have such a good relationship with each other. I love how they have this strong trust and understanding of one another.

I recently made a rewatch of this drama and I cried even more than my first watch. I noticed more details this time around and it gutted me even more. I also just noticed that all Shiyi did is waiting for Zhousheng Chen to come home everytime he went out for his military campaigns. It makes me so sad. T_____T

Allen Ren is amazing in this role. The microexpressions that he did is one of the best I've seen. This is how you supposed to play cold characters, the subtle acting that he did took my breath away. I need to rewind a lot of scenes to appreciate it over and over again. Bai Lu did awesomely as well. In my opinion, still her best role to date.

This is one drama that is a must watch if you are a Cdrama fan. It is a masterpiece. It made Forever & Ever even sweeter due to their history.

I love this drama. Yang Zi & Allen Ren has amazing chemistry. They are cute together. I love how Xuxuan loves to tease Yaoyao. Their relationship is very interesting.

The ML is naive but not stupid. Many writers like to mixed naive as being not bright but Chang Yi is actually clever and never made any dumb decisions in the drama. That is why Yunhe needs to stab him in the betrayal scene to make him get it since he knew she just purposely break his heart to protect him. After she stabbed her, only then he gets it but even then, he never truly believed that she betrayed him. He is naive and innocent (like a kid), but he certainly not stupid or not bright.

The greatest appeal of Ren Jialun is that he got range in his acting. He looked cocky and intimidating in Under the Power, then super charismatic and aloof in One & Only to docile and soft in Forever & Ever. Or even in Blue Whisper, you can see how he transformed from naïve to broken effortlessly, its pretty amazing. Then you watched him in variety shows, he is nothing like his dramas characters. And that makes him a good actor.

I'm a big fan since I thought his range as an actor is amazing. He can be cold and charismatic in one drama, then bubbly and super talkative in another then straight intimidating & arrogant in another drama. Then you have the awkward professor in F&E. Since F&E is one of the first dramas that I watched from him, I thought that's his real personality lol. He captured those awkward vibes perfectly that its almost hilarious to watch him.
