A few things I found weird. In 1987, there was a lot of gender discrimination for women. In fact, the patriarchy…
You don't know the true dynamic of Asian marriages then. Yes it's a male dominant society, and in the workplace and at home the man is the nominal figurehead. But the woman rules the roost and pulls the strings behind the scenes. In Korea especially the women are very strong. One of my great aunts would lock her husband up on the second floor for days when she got mad at him for something, and turn off the heat. And he was a government official. It's also very typical for the women to be consulting a fortune teller regarding their husbands's careers.

Most unrealistic part SooHo being a Spy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Tpp soft to be a spy🤪🤪
Jung Hae In did say that Sooho changes after meeting Youngro. He also said it's a big struggle mentally for Sooho to change his ideology, but I don't see that depicted on screen much if at all.

Well they did show some of the aftermath with YR looking discombobulated and her friends crowding around her asking…
There might have been some of that but they were also discussing if the ANSP agent and Ms. Pi had been caught kissing (with repeated emphasis on the word KISS) saying who knows, they're in a crisis situation and they might have mistaken their feelings for love.

Guys what is this whole coffee (or any other drink) truck thing in Korean industry. Why the actors pose infront…
Unlike Hollywood productions, where they usually have a food tent or cafeteria set up for the actors and crew, Koreans don't provide food during their shoots. A bit of the harsh reality behind the screen magic which I really dislike. If they don't bring their own food they go hungry, so it's not uncommon for actors to comment they haven't eaten all day. The trucks provide a bit of relief.

Wow, that's pretty crazy!Globally, Korea has risen pretty fast in terms of their economy and global standings.…
There is a lot of corruption depicted in Korean dramas from historical times until now and it strikes a chord with Korean audiences precisely because it's from real life. Koreans were ground down for centuries by a despotic monarchy and class system, by Chinese and Japanese occupation, and the Korean war. None of those things were conducive to creating a cultured, well-educated or disciplined populace, or an understanding of freedom and human rights. Korea has only really had a chance to be free and develop in the last 40 years. They've done amazingly well, all things considered.

One of my mom's cousins has been in North Korea since the Korean war. My grandfather once arranged for this cousin and his mother (my grandfather's sister) to meet secretly in Japan. From that time on, every time my grandfather visited South Korea, he would be kidnapped off the street in a black car by government agents and jailed until his sister (one of the wealthiest women in Korea at the time) could come up with an enormous sum for his freedom. I suddenly realized thanks to this drama I now know the name of that government agency.

I agree 100%. Sooho knows he wont see her again since he cant stay in sk and cant go back to nk. So he gave in…
In bringing up her singing at the bookstore being the memory she wanted to erase, Youngro is essentially telling Sooho that despite all that she has gone through the last few days in the dorm, this is the memory she wants to erase, her worst memory. She's telling him everything else is forgiven. And when he responds that he wants to forget putting a gun to her head, he is saying that with all the horrible things he has seen and done in his past, this is the thing that hurts him the most. His statement of apology. It really is beautifully done.

they all fake their deaths and live in Germany together - not just youngro and sooho but the whole gang 😭hmmm…
The ANSP agents could certainly help them fake their deaths, if they were to go that route, and YR's father being head of ANSP, he might even organize such a plot himself to save his daughter.

I have the Snowdrop soundtrack running through my head all day. But I'm trying to resist listening to it because it puts me in a fit of romantic melancholy and spells disaster for any productivity at work.

Call me cynical, but I don't think men are altruistic enough to show such attentions to someone they aren't interested in. I used to think men were just being gentlemen when they gave me such attentions. In every case it turned out they wanted something. I would think someone was just a really nice person and then they would suddenly start ignoring me and I'd wonder what I did wrong. It was because they found someone more exciting (or responsive?) and turned their attentions elsewhere. Gentlemanly my foot.

Where he complains about how his shoulder feels like it's dislocated from the weight of the gun--then gets up to give Jisoo his seat and offers to go find her shoes for her, while till carrying the gun. Maybe he's a Blackpink fan.

Aaanndd the wait starts again… Any theories on how this show will end?
Based on the tried and true inspired formula of a dozen other dramas: everything will end in violence with most everyone getting injured or killed. Sooho will be there with Youngro protecting her but when it's all over and she wakes up in the hospital he's nowhere to be found and she won't know if he's alive or dead for years, until he shows up again (a la Memories of Alhambra).

That would be the most likely ending. Let's see if they do something different.

Random question while waiting for the episode to air. " How long have you been watching Asian dramas and which…
I've watched Asian dramas all my life, as a natural consequence of having grown up in that part of the world, but I started watching Korean dramas in 2009 when I found them available at my local library. My first one was that big hot mess called Winter Sonata, followed by Dae Jang Geum, and I was hooked. I still think Dae Jang Geum is one of the most compelling historical dramas they've ever made.

You can click on our profiles and check out our drama lists, and see which dramas we rate most highly. I don't give many dramas a 10/10 rating, but one that comes to mind at the moment is When the Camellia Blooms. I've got two other Gong Hyo Jin dramas with a 10 rating --Jealousy Incarnate and Producers--and one Jung Hae In drama, One Spring Night. My favorite Japanese drama is I Don't Love You Yet. I've never gotten into Chinese drama because that's a new language to learn and I think I have enough languages swirling in my head. :-D

The only thing that slightly bugs me are the hairstyles. Are you telling me Korea missed out on the 80s big hair…
We didn't have big hair in Japan in the 80's when I was growing up so I wouldn't be surprised if Korea didn't either. They usually copied Japanese trends rather than American ones.
