Title Not Me Spoiler
Ikr, like where did he get White's number from?
I guess when Black told him to give the handkerchief to White, he could have also told him, but then that begs the question: if Black had White's number this whole time, why would he have held back on reaching out to him?

Maybe it's too early for us to ask any of these questions as I can think of at least three more questions that my own question leads to. lmao

My boyfriend, like most gay guys (here in Asia), isn’t into BL and usually rolls his eyes or laughs at me when I’m gushing over BLs, but while I was watching the most recent episode while sitting next to him he said “Aww that’s cute”. He cracked! Finally! That alone says a lot about this drama to me. 😂 The last time this happened was Cherry Magic.

Poop. Well, then I think you're right. I live in China and BL's still really popular here. It's available on lots of difference Chinese outlets, but I think the only reason it gets a pass is because it's not made in China. If this one's gonna be by tencent AND in Mandarin (which it looks like), then yeah, it may not be BL. U_U

This is closely related to Tang Dynasty. Wu Zhou dynasty was a brief period during the Tang when Wu Zetian reigned.…
to you and @Dominique Euqinimod I'd like to say that for dramas depicted during Tang (even thou this was "Wu Zhou" during Wu Zetian's reign, it was still socially the TangDynasty), Chinese cultural flourished from within and took in a lot of influences and it's (arguably) the most glorious period Chinese history.

Whenever it's shown in media now, you'd think China was 1500 years ahead of everywhere else, when in historical reality, it was 200 years (which is still amazing lol) ahead.

The super secretive methods of communication (i.e.-changing message tables and voice-changing masks weren't recorded in Tang history...that I know of, at least)

One thing you'll also notice toned down is the makeup style. The super-white foundation is there, the flower "bindi" forehead mark is too along with the unique hairstyles, but the particular eyebrow (short eyebrow), lip (minilips), and cheek make-up styles (lots of pink) are conspicuously absent from this drama.

Nevertheless, it's OK because it's still showcasing China and Chinese culture in loads of other ways and that's important these days imo.

I hope everything goes according to plan with this. I've been waiting to see Chen Wen in another BL since Addicted. By the time this airs, that will have been SIX years of waiting.

the cast is amazing, but if this is a Chinese production, doesn't that mean it'll be bromance at best? or is this…
Produced in Thailand, but financed by a Chinese company is the best possible course of action and, honestly, given the current socio-political climate in China, the only one that makes sense. At this point, bromances are barely even allowed anymore.

Sorry about that. 😅 In Chinese, we only refer to that time as the Wu Zhou. Of course, during the time, it would have just been Zhou.

For example, the 'casino' scene. There were dice and cards and betting in Tang Dynasty, but it wouldn't have been played in the way shown, which is more akin to Qing Dynasty. Some of the products at the stalls during the opening fight scene like the stuffed animals that wouldn't have made their way around until later. The makeup and how generally opulent many of the fabrics are (even for the most pedestrian of people). Some of the products out in the market like certain kinds of lanterns and stuffed animals came later on too.

I will say though while some of the clothes are more opulent than they may have been, they're still beautiful and so well done. I've been to Luoyang's old town and it's nice to see to some extent or another how people lived back when it was the capital of the country.

It was the Wu Zhou and even though the period she reigned during was called that, it was indeed the Later Tang period, so the people calling the costumes Tang Dynasty are right.

The Zhou Dynasty was another important dynasty (China's longest in fact) and existed long before Wu Zetian took the throne.

I’m referring to the historical elements extending beyond the characters themselves. Im very familiar with Tang and Wu Zetian. I’m talking about certain kinds of goods, food, and technology that weren’t around in China then or wouldn’t have been used in certain ways. It’s certainly based on the Tang Dynasty, but the lack of attention to detail in some things (particularly for someone who’s really interested in the subject like me) is too hard to not notice. That said, I’m really having a fun time watching.

Two episodes in and I’ve officially turned off my acknowledgment of this as a historical drama. 😂 Still loving it so far, but this is not Tang Dynasty China, which I was expecting, but not this much. I’ll purely enjoy the fantasy from now on. 😊

Agreed, although I don't think there is anything intentional about child abduction/abuse/murder being comedic…
I'm most looking forward to Moonlight Chicken and Vice Versa. I'm pretty sure Dr. Jimmy is my new Thai BL crush. I'm the least excited about Mix and Earth's other one because of the body swap, but I'm still gonna watch for Earth and Mix. I've watched so much of their non-acting stuff like their little daily adventures etc. that now I really like them and actually want to support them. I don't know what You Are My Favorite is gonna be like and I'm not wild about the main couple together, but I'm gonna watch out of pure curiosity.

Now, I'm not saying Singto isn't handsome, but I feel like, at least physically, Lee or even Pleum would have been more suitable for the role of Weir. :/
