he said he would've done so if hao du didn't show up so he was expecting hao du to step up... the only thing i really fault him for there is that he didn't talk to LY until pretty much last minute. i think he understood that LY wouldn't want him to step in either if it wasn't real love he has for her. i guess they executed it that way with no one coming right until last sec to make it even more dramatic.
