i don't know what else Lady Jin could've done. i def can't see her letting LSM get killed by her husband so she had to warn him. we still don't really know what went down like if LSM tried giving his brother a chance or what. but most likely she knew that her husband (& entire family) would face death. her living after this event would not be living as she would suffer from too much guilt. her only way out was death.
i think she was being too optimistic about chang ge and how chang ge would react. knowing her daughter's personality, did she really think a promise not to hate is going to suffice? especially when she doesn't provide CG with any details (of course i understand why she wouldn't want CG to know about her her history of rape, etc). but not having the full truth and all the pieces, there is no way to expect CG not to react and act the way she did. They were all just extremely lucky that Chang ge gives a damn and cares so much for the well-being of the people or things could've gone so extremely badly with dire consequences so many times.
In order for Chang Ge to fully live her life from here on out with a clear heart and mind, there is no other way but to let go as much as she can of the past so i'm glad she did. and that LSM does seem to be a good and caring emperor.
