i feel like he would've essentially grown up with them (LY, CG, and WS) but on the periphery and not friendly with them. like LY, CG, and WS were obviously friends. whereas HD was just there bc his father worked for LSM and they were both serving him. Du Ruhui seems like the type where he would be like 'know your place and your duty', you're here to serve, not to be playmates for the princess/lady. i think he got to observe them a lot and may have had a very surface level crush on LY for a while and then after truly getting to know her and essentially the new, stronger her, he fell in love then.
