We have good KBLs that are short too. It all comes down to execution. But sadly most of the BL production studio do not have a super big budget like your mainstream kdrama.

Not everything need to be the eighth sense level to be a 10/10. All the 7.9 to 8.2 score KBLs here differ in their own way, people judge the show by itself and give it high ratings. We shouldnt be rating shows using another as a standard, each show should be allowed to stand on its own merit.
This is the first show after the eighth sense that has mostly positive reception, many of us like it. Like another comment said sometimes simple is enough.
