It is similar in the sense that it's novel from the female gaze, with a general avenging for his father as an ML, and a good emperor, but yet, it is not. Chen Shao Shang was an almost illiterate, kept that way by a horrible family; she was without filter, only able to avenge with her only weapon, her natural understanding of engineering and sheer will. Our FL in The Double, FangFei, was a Cai Nue (the Most Talented Woman of her city), thus very well-educated and knowledgeable about the court; plus, she was married! So you see two women dealing with injustices in their lives in their own very unique ways. You will also see that FangFei understand about men and their thinking a lot better than our ShaoShang, LOL. She would have slayed Yuan Shan with her tongue, haha.
General Ling BuYi and our boy Duke Su are cut from the same cloth. You'll fall in love with Duke Su as much, if not more, as you did with LBY, whom I love, in spite of his flaws. Duke Su is a LBY with a sense of humor and just a tad less arrogance, LOL. Duke Su, for example, would have been able to make Niao Niao's family love him instead of fear him, LMAO.
I think you'll enjoy The Double. Just stop it on the last episode at the Minute 31:17 mark and it'll be the Happiest Ending Ever. You won't be as satisfied if you watch all the way to the end. Also, the producer, Yu Zheng, made a five minute episode 40.5 to show an epilogue of a happy couple.
As I said before, these two dramas are my Top Two dramas. I love them both very much.

Ahhh. Well, that part couldn't be helped. The Chinese government banned transmigration as a plot in Chinese dramas, so every manuscript based on a book with transmigration has to write around that. Some dramas just ignore this plot point, like Love Like The Galaxy, but with The Double, that's a little difficult to pull off.
As I see it, the way the writers for The Double and the director solved it was using the pretext that the Jiang family had not seen the eight year old Jiang Li grow into an eighteen year-old, so that solved the immediate problem. They made the Duke see her face (veiled hat scene) so the character would feel an attraction (in interviews, WXY said he was told his character fell in love at first sight) for XFF and thus, when he saw her at that nunnery, he would be intrigued enough to play along.
The last obstacle was of course, as you said, people recognized Xue FangFei. XFF certainly understood that in the drama and to solve this, the writer(s) gave her the idea that it didn't matter. All she needed was her own father, the powerful Prime Minister, to recognize her in front of every noble person as his daughter. No one would then say anything other than that. Hence we get the pretty damn cool Episode 5, the Coming of Age ceremony.
I really love Episode 5 because the writer(s) achieved all that PLUS get Shen Yu Rong to appear, to set up the rest of what was to come for him. He was the mouthpiece also; he said to his family, the Jiang Family recognized her as their daughter, so therefore she was** the daughter. This also planted the seed in his mind on how to get XFF back--he would marry JL by playing her game too. It was interesting to see both XFF's men "playing" chess with her, thinking to use her as their pawn. Whereas Duke Su, all along, knew the tiger XFF was seeking was the Crazy Princess and sought to warn her to protect her, SYR, the husband, chose to give up XFF for something better (whichever excuse he came up with at any episode, take your pick). So in this episode, we see SYR made the first step toward this seed of an idea.
Now, I'll admit that the writing got weaker with the whole darn town keeping her ID a secret, LOL. As a writer myself, I'd thought about various ways to solve this problem, LOL. This part was undeniably tough on the suspension of disbelief meter! I guess I'll for now wave my hand and accept the fact that the citizens did it to save their lives and town from people like the evil magistrate that replaced their beloved Magistrate Xue.
By the end of the drama, all who cared to do damage to her were dead or were crazy, so it didn't matter, The transmigration trope is definitely a dilemma for many writers to write around. I do enjoy watching the solutions as each adaptation of such stories pop up. In Joy of Life, for example, they wrote the whole new beginning of a modern day college paper.

Wait. I consider the actors for Ling BuYi, the Emperor, Yuan Shan, the Queen, THE Magnificent Concubine Yueh pretty damn good. :) You even get a qin performance by the magnificent Ling BuYi. I could write a paper comparing the two protags of LLTG and the two of The Double. These two are my top two favorite dramas right now. #3 is Who Rules The World, LOL.

He inspired countless CP forums for years under the hashtag WuluKetao because the chemistry between him and Chen Shao Shang, so much so that the two leads had been inextricably tied whenever the drama gets a resurgence (CCTV shows it as a repeat). There will be an arrow scene you will never forget in this drama.
There are very few good C-Drama villains unless you want to venture into modern dramas. Then there are a few who aren't just mustache twirlers. There was an bad husband in Alliance that was very, very subtle and underhanded. But I'm not sure if you like modern (contemporary) dramas--pure family and suspense--so I won't recommend.

Hence it was a "just" punishment. The author of the book meted out justice by punishing the wicked with how they wielded their evil power. The Wicked Princess said she purposely corrupted innocence and stole from the innocent. Thus she was punished by having the person she corrupted give her the final punishment AND have an innocent life (her phantom child-blessing from heaven) taken from her.
