Shen Li's immortals are so much more experienced compared to our young Scooby gang. The reaction, the flirting, the handling of problems and situations (even though there is the I-am-so-powerful-I-MUST-sacrifice-myself theme) are so different, I felt compared to go back to TLI and revisit how the young immortals were so powerless because of their inexperience. I feel like writing another long thesis, bwahaha. Our long thread up in Other Discussions need replenishment!

Yes, there are several interesting things from the book that I’d have loved if they’d been included in the drama. So enjoyed our little discussion. I really like analyzing this show! Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it. I agree about the Nether Realm addition. It added so much. One thing I'd wished for (besides a better lovey-dovey ending) was more time shown of them in the human world. The very staccatoed one thousand years of suffering was just a repeated line for both our leads (one being reborn and the other helping her over and over and then wiping her memory) and didn't get the viewer's emotional engagement.

I thought of one. A short drama format, historical, titled Familiar Stranger. It has short episodes, with a touch of rebirth magic but no heavenly realms, a mystery, only a mention of royalty and a few good twists. Let me know if you choose to watch it. I really enjoyed this one.

Oh, that's a tough one. Xianxia is always about the heavenly realms' conflict and quxia is mostly about avenging one's sect or political agenda. I'll have to think about this a bit.
