Why do i feel like Xiu Yan & the devil king’s ending was sweeter the Feng yin and Yuan qi lol
Well, if I were Minqqi I would want to do stuff to Xiu Yan too. I mean, do stuff WITH. Yup.

This makes sense. Thanks!
This is how Shanggu explained to Bai Jue:

Shang Gu was speechless and could not answer. She silently snorted and turned her head. "Any kind of divine power in the world is mutually compatible, the power of chaos can only save the living soul. But Yuan Qi's soul was scattered, the remaining soul in the Fire Phoenix Jade is a piece of dead soul. The power of chaos cannot save it. Only the power of the Ghost God can make his soul reborn. If he does not act, no one in the world can save Yuan Qi."

She knew how her son could be saved, but because this was Shanggu we're talking about, she wasn't going to make it easy for her son and daughter-in-law. Shanggu should have been the goddess of Mischief too.

I couldn't help grinning from ear to ear watching ep 33
There were a few good moments like that in the those few episodes

OP is slightly wrong, timeline-wise. Shanggu had her own reasons. There are several epilogues explaining this.

I mentioned the conception of YuanQi in your earlier post talking about his being not really Shanggu's and BaiJue's son when you didn't make this point. Shanggu could not help Yuanqi because the dispersion of Chaos (the power of becoming) needed the power of Demon to gather it back (the combination of opposites, which is what makes Chaos). Which Minqqi had. Minqqi decided he could help because of the question of fate and his belief that one couldn't change fate BUT the fire phoenix's reincarnation and YuanQi's using his power, giving up his god essence (or whatever you call it), convinced him that he, the "fallen archangel, Lucifer," could do the same. Nonetheless, YuanQi's blood is plenty powerful. He RESURRECTED the entire Mt. Daze and still managed to live for another one thousand years (and longer, had he not given up his essence to the AhYin/lotus).

Ummm no. Bai Jue came back when YuanQi ascended. They had a conversation (not in drama).

He was also not quite Shanggu and BaiJue's son. They were the other incarnations with less powers then. NOW YOU KNOW. Teehee.

I just finished ALP and also restarted TLI. There’s no overlapping stories or connections except that YuanQi…
No, but I was just addressing the overlapping connections, so the OP can see that while watching ALP.

LOL. It's xianxia. Suffering is one of the ingredients. Great suffering. Everything in xianxia is at Volume 11.…
Yes, I replied to your post with the book details.

WHAT I LOVE MOST IN EP 40 EXCEPT FOR THE HE WAS WHEN FY WAS TRYING TO ENTER THE GOD REALM, THE WAY DAZE MOUNTAIN…
Yes, they rewrote that too and I thought the revision is better than the book, even the book is epic too. FengYin snuck into the god realm when the former queen phoenix ascended and underwent 47 heavenly strikes to see Shanggu (YQ's mother) and she was almost turning to ash before Shanggu gave her a green globe. But this drama way was emotionally impactful too, showing everyone's love for the couple.

Maybe Xiu Yan couldn't use it until he was whole again and out of the abyss? I dunno. The last five episodes,…
HAHAHA I know. They need to end it! Find YuanQi's pieces, STAT!

It's the camera filter. I used to think it was pancake makeup but no, it's the filter that make them look poreless…
Right! I know these actors don't look so death-like in real life!

Damn director!

I was just thinking...
GUJ/YuanQi was always fighting time in this drama. He was always running against or out of time. He wanted to collect all the FengYin soul pieces before his tribulation. He was trying to lengthen AhYin's short lifespan in various ways, including making that special pill. He knew he was living on borrowed time after Daze Mountain Incident. He wanted desperately to buy time to find the bad guys to clear AhYin. He miscalculated and made that final blow that cost him 1000 years when he just wanted to find AhYin while his battery juice was slowly dissipating. Then when FY was back, he had one month of marriage to win her back. And finally, time just...ran out. Thank goodness for the Magic Pagoda of spirit-piece gathering, eh? LOL.
Now, question--why didn't THEY have this freaking pagoda thingy in their FY soul piece quest?!

I really wish dramas would stop putting chalky white makeup on actors. 😭 or at least get the undertone right,…
It's the camera filter. I used to think it was pancake makeup but no, it's the filter that make them look poreless and wrinkleless. Some of the filters are so overdone that it looks like they're wearing a mask, with bruises around their eyes. You can see that on LuSi's face in a couple of episodes in Romance of Tiger and Rose.

There is a slight overlap of the love triangle of the fox aunt, her lover and the first demoness. The fox aunt was not able to go back to Hong Li's parents during that big war that killed them and that's why Hong Li was so bitter. There are other connections here and there.

Aww. A wonderful review. I'm glad you enjoyed the drama as much as (even more, I suspect!) as I did. I was here from the beginning, joining MDL for the first time after just lurking, because I wanted to talk about the drama.
The scriptwriter(s) was very aware of the importance of showing both protagonists having a satisfactory communication for their end. THE BOOK DID NOT. YQ died before FY found out the truth and they never had those moments we saw. So, in spite of some weaknesses in the script, I have to applaud the writer(s) for that bit of revision.

Now that I finished it can we talk about how they did the ML dirty while writing his script, what’s with him…
LOL. It's xianxia. Suffering is one of the ingredients. Great suffering. Everything in xianxia is at Volume 11. The script followed the book pretty closely, so unless you wanted them to drastically change the hero's journey, it was about GuJin's guilt and redemption. However, if you changed the script and not follow the book, then the book fans would come after the director/scriptwriter, so...

It's not just YQ who had to suffer a crazy amount. What about Ah Yin? Darn scriptwriter threw in everything imaginable, including stuff that wasn't in the book, which was noted by viewers as too draggy during that segment. I didn't find it draggy but people just wanted to get back to getting her as the Queen Phoenix to BEAT UP ON the male lead (and others). LOL.

Anyway, a lot of times, in xianxia, the misunderstandings bring about great suffering and "deaths" to the leads. I always gear myself up for this while watching.
