I was going to say something similar to this but damnn, there is a whole firing squad ready to kill anything,…
Umm. I’m sorry. I am the complete opposite with your perception. Bai Lu, to me, is always Bai Lu. Every drama is the same Bai Lu, whether she’s a general, a maid, a queen or a selfish reporter. Sorry. Meanwhile, when Lu Si plays silly, she is Overtheboard Silly. When she cries, she sobs her heart out. When she plays Bai fengxi, she is not ChenShaoShang. When she plays Feng Yin, she is not Shang Chi. You lost me with Bai Lu. LOL. We’ll just have to agree to disagree AGAIN with how we perceive acting. OMG. Bai Lu method actor?! I need coffeeeeeeeee
I deeply enjoyed this drama because of the mains and the supporting characters. The two major things that bothered…
I agree about shortening the first arc. Since 12-21 (around those episodes) were not in the book anyway, why not condense it and write in a beautiful mortal realm romance? That would deepen the romance arc too!
Yeah, the OST playing while characters talking can get too much for me in all the dramas. Let them talk!
Love Me Love My Voice was great but the background music was very loud in certain scenes for me. Journey to You too, but then the actors were also speaking in very soft tones. And some parts of that historical Blossom Days (? Is that the name? There was another historical about the same time with Blossom in the title). I've also been watching clips on Youtube where there were breakup scenes between CEOs and FLs and the music was so loud (because the audience is supposed to be sad, I suppose) I couldn't hear what the dude was yelling about. I like catching clips to see if I'm going to be interested so I get a sample of quite a number of genres with this problem.
Let's make a bet. Is it a YES or NO that they made a five minute extra episode of our main leads all happy and lovey-dovey for a few $$$ to see? :) Let's see which of us win the bet....
If you were to compare Wang An Yu's Yuan Qi to Lu Si's other male lead characters in Who Rules the World and Love…
GuJin was entirely a different LuSi male lead--he had a sense of humor! Heh. Also, the thing that stood out from the others, he never wanted to go into battle, or be a ruler, or take up any sort of arms. Nor did he had a revenge brewing in his mind. He was just a bum. A bum immortal that use the loo, bwahaha, oh did that scene crack me up.
Another thing. Most of the time, when there is a male lead that start out like this, the manuscript usually change them into a cold, unfeeling person done in by loss or hatred or revenge. GuJin as YuanQi never really changed in his determination to find AhYin, never relinquished his love, no matter how callous she acted against him.
LuSi loved the role reversal of the male lead making the mistake and going through the guilt trip instead of the female lead trope doing the regretting. And I bet she loved it that she was given such a strong character in FengYin. Sure, we missed her comic side, but her dry wit was a different kind of funny.

I respectfully disagree. LuSi’s acting was par excellent and carried this script all the way. LuSi is trying to expand her wings, doing shows like Gen Z and a xianxia. Some of her fans may be upset with her for not sticking with the same cutesy role, but I, for one, like her growth as an actress. BTW, LuSi chose this project herself per her interview.
She was in almost all the scenes, playing four different versions of her character, with four voices and people still criticize her. She showed her acting chops playing innocent to disillusioned to arrogant to deep grief and still people criticized the baby voice part. She did show humor in the younger Ah Yin, just not the usual slapstick, and still people criticized her that the character acted young as a baby immortal (!!!)
I had wonder whether she could top her role as Cheng Shao Shang and I respectfully declare that she did with AhYin/FengYin. She went from over-the-top magical baby to starry-eyed teen to a very nuanced performance as Feng Yin who could slay with words. CSS, OTOH, was mostly one-note. Enjoyable, and I loved that character, but there was no nuance at all.
People can criticize the script and direction but the actress Lu Si had done her job. She sure made everyone feel strong enough to attack her, didn’t she.
