Title Yumi's Cells Spoiler
Update for season 2 (click on the spoiler below).
Song Jae Jung also talked about how Season 2 will showcase the growth of the characters and said the story will be dynamic compared to the lovey-dovey theme of Season 1.

The writer said that the decision to have multiple seasons came early on from the idea that unlike most Korean romance dramas, “Yumi’s Cells” will have the same female character with her boyfriends consistently changing throughout the story. Song Jae Jung also added that the idea is to create something close to a mild version of “Sex and the City.”

Lee Sang Yeop also spoke about the second season saying, “Season 2 will tell the story of Yoo Babi and Yumi, which will be different from the relationship with Goo Woong. I look forward to coming back with Season 2.”

Thank you for your comment. "Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average time an organism is expected…
I showed proof in my previous comment and explained thoroughly what is being addressed. I think it's safe to agree to disagree.

Thank you for your comment.

Title Yumi's Cells
But unfortunantly lack of communication, ego, being childish etc are common in relationships. I believe the writers…
I agree!

i do enjoy period dramas, but not the korean ones. while i know they have different periods of dynasty. The difference…
I do really enjoy the traditional clothing in historical dramas, especially the Chinese dramas. I love their wedding attire and wouldn't mimd wearing a red wedding dress.

Interesting article. I just do not get why you mentioned Lü Zhi (not Lu Zhi, who was a male Han General) as cruel…
Thank you!

The reason why I specifically mentioned her is because I read information about her after her name is mentioned in Empress Ki.

Regarding her story, I've read other articles stating the same thing. However, I don't doubt that not all the truth has been presented. If someone made a story about my life 400 from now, I don't think they would be able to tell it without missing some facts.

Interesting read but heavily biased and shows very little understanding of the fluidity and subjectivity of dramas…
Thank you! Great comment!

Regarding the comment you made about the expectations that viewers have, I think we would have to agree to disagree. Perhaps, I think too black and white when watching certain genres. However, if a genre is a romcom, I'd expect it to have romance and comedy. If the genre is an historical drama, even with a fictional aspect like Moon Lovers, which, btw, as I mentioned in the article, details in damas are often changed to make it more palatable for modern day viewers...I'd expect it to have a historical context. Since, I have knowledge about monarchical life, cultural norms, and etc, during some ancient and prehistoric times, I definently would never watch a historical drama for escapism. I think responsiblity should also fall on the viewers. They wouldn't go to a Chinese restaurant, if they want to eat Jamaican food. Why watch a historical drama, if they are expecting romance, and comedy, unless it's a subcategory listed on the dramas page. I believe genre categories help us know what to expect. I wouldn't listen to country western music expecting it to sound like R&B.

Btw, I actually believe that we should agree or disagree with what we agree or disagree with. In other words, thank you for expressing what you disagreed on. I believe respectfully disagreeing is a very strong way that people become more objective.

I learned a new term today, 'presentism'! In my line of work, we call in 'lens' as in "what lens did you use to…
You're welcome, and thank you for taking the time to read the article. I often question why characters irk me, a lot of times I find egocentrisim, and presentism are usually the reasons why. It's actually difficult to be objective, and only become easier the more that we practice.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with everything that you've written. I hadn't watched any Scandinavian historical dramas, I guess I didn't know that they existed.

Are there any ancient socio-cultural views that you find it hard to relate to?

Thank you for an interesting and thought provoking article! As far as I know, shorter life span is actually not…
Thank you for your comment.

"Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average time an organism is expected to live, based on the year of its birth, its current age, and other demographic factors including sex. The most commonly used measure is life expectancy at birth (LEB), which can be defined in two ways. Cohort LEB is the mean length of life of an actual birth cohort (all individuals born in a given year) and can be computed only for cohorts born many decades ago so that all their members have died. Period LEB is the mean length of life of a hypothetical cohort assumed to be exposed, from birth through death, to the mortality rates observed at a given year." I did do research before writing this article. One of the reasons people had their children young, was because their life ended earlier so they lived how modern day adults lived but much earlier. However, it isn't the only reason why they married young and I didn't write that it was. Also, I never said that there weren't any outliers. Additionally, this article isn't specifically focused on European birth rates and end of life for Europeans from the 18th/19th century, but the worlds (different nations), from different eras (BC and AD). For example, in the 18th and 19th century in America it was very common for women to have their children in their late teens and early 20's. There are numerous of reasons why, one being gender roles etc. If I detailed every single reason in the article, it would be 5 times the length lol.

If you still disagree with me, I am fine with that. We would have to agree to disagree. =)

I really enjoy reading your articulate article. I like watching historical/period Korean Dramas however I do not…
Thank you!

I've never watched or heard of the drama The King's Face! I'll have to check it out. Joy of Life is a period drama that I enjoyed but it had this weird "in the future," part of it that I hated. Honestly, I still don't understand what the producers were trying to do with that part. Why ruin a perfectly good drama! The only historical drama that I LOVE (not just like lol) with a past/future element is Mr. Queen.

Although I'm not Korean, I live in Korea. I would love to see another Korean historical drama similar to Empress Ki and River Where The Moon Rises.

I liked your article but I did not find the answer to the question: How to enjoy historical/period dramas? I only…
Thank you!

The answer is in the conclusion, perhaps you were expecting a different answer and you overlooked it lol.

"To conclude, in order to enjoy well written and produced historical & period dramas and to avoid giving masterpieces low ratings, it requires a mind that would avoid the bias of presentism. Even with the knowledge that I have, I sometimes still have to take a couple of minutes to get rid of my presentism bias when watching historical and period dramas."
