Yeah it's a masterpiece. I'm enjoying it, but I'm constantly on the edge. The guys really won't get any rest 😭. Sadly I also think Wanqi is developing something not good for him. I really like his character so much. Well. I like them all. I liked to watch their business relationship, but also friendships grow so much. I wonder if the British lady is still alive?

This genre is not normally what I watch , such I'm surprised on how deeply I appreciate this drama and the historical background. I learn so much of this time period and it makes me realise how little I know. I'm honestly quite shocked by the Japanese treatment of the Chinese civilians during WW2. Really sad. Anyways, the acting is superb and no it's not a romantic drama , but a very serious and educational one. Definitely worth watching. Try it and judge for yourself.

Wow. What an amazing piece of work. It's a 10 for me. 40 episodes were not enough. I miss the excellent cast so much. Romance is not in the forefront, so be warned. The different landscapes and cultures and international political and trading influences are an essential part of the storyline and not to mention the tragic loss of life during the Taiping rebellion and its ending around 1864. I learned so much about the Qing empire. I didn't find the ending rushed, rather it all had its way and it was a well rounded ending!!

I'm currently on episode 20 and to me it's one of the best historical dramas this year. It's very realistic. I like the aspect of seeing various different landscapes of China, political and visual, he travels from the cold , winter barren North, including Russian connections/ influence then to the Grasslands, the rich Shanxi province and the further rebellious South, but also to Beijing and the Imperial court. It's interesting to see the international connections in that drama and how it influenced the Qing economic and political landscape. This drama is very fast paced with no boring moment. There are also side stories, but they also make sense and gives the story a wider aspect. I still have 20 episodes to go, but think that the rating is much too low for this type of drama. The actors all give their best and I even loved the episode were empress dowager Cixi appears. This drama let me read more about the Qing Dynasty and it's internal political and economic struggles and victories.
