Actually, the trauma probably made him even more determined to succeed so he could recapture her heart because in the present his mantra is still the same: I will never love anyone but you till the day I die.

Why wouldn't he pay it. She was in extreme danger from the loan sharks and the debt was a pittance to him. Plus, she didn't know he liked her like that. He never shared that information because he didn't want to be an adulterer like his scumbag father.
She also had a hard time believing a man like him would like a girl like her, and that's why she questioned whether he really liked her. Thank goodness he didn't get all up in arms like some of the commenters here and instead set out to let her know why he likes her and made sure there was no misunderstanding about him walking through the exhibit with SFL.
We're meant to have fun watching this series. Like, who cares if she's too small to carry him on her back and there's no soot on them and his lungs are clear of smoke? Yes, it's utter nonsense, but so what? He said, "Saranghae"!!!!!

I agree that what we're about to see is extremely cruel. And while there's no excuse for that I kind of feel that even though she loves him, she really wants him to experience some of the world without her at his side and believed she had to be cruel to be kind and throw her baby bird out of the nest. She also wanted to achieve some goals of her own, primarily starting a business.
That said, I cannot imagine how heartbroken he was when the truth came out and wonder if it made him even more determined to succeed and become the kind of man he wanted to be for her, because he's been saying he wants to protect and care for her. I'm really excited about Sunday's episodes, but soon this wild ride will be over and that makes me sad.

The SML is pissing off almost everyone here, but aside from that, it is a blast. Don't take it too seriously and just go along for the ride. I've never had so much fun watching a rom com and the ML is to die for!!!
I dropped Would You Marry Me but this series will be a definite rewatch.
