Just finished reading the novel. I liked the novel much better than the drama. Didn't care for Li Chong Wen in the drama, but his character and storyline were 100% different in the novel. In the novel the FL never had a real boyfriend (she never dated Li Chong Wen and he was never more than a good friend). Also, in the novel the FL was never the second place finisher to the ML, she was just an average student at best. So the whole plot line of the FL trying to out do the ML for first place didn't happen in the novel. Also the FL wasn't a paralegal but was always a lawyer in the drama and her father never got sick and died (Li Chong Wen got sick in the novel). The AES/Morris case also didn't exist in the novel.
No the ML (Xie Wei) is not, but the SML (Zhang Zhe) is
LOL - Did I merge the drama and the novel together in my head? I swear I watched the entire drama thinking the SML was reincarnated like the FL - but I guess this explains why he wasn't more proactive in trying to change the future. I thought the FL lead realized he was from the future when his mother died... don't remember what episode that was... but maybe I was reading more into the scene that what was actually there since I thought he was also from the future... Didn't realize until today he wasn't...
The name of the novel is A Lady's Tranquility. Unfortunately, it's not fully subbed. Here's a link to its page…
Given how popular Chinese novels are, especially those turned into successful dramas, I'm surprised no one has thought of forming a company to obtain translation rights in order to translate all of the popular Chinese webnovels into English or other languages for sell via Amazon. All of the novels available on Novel Updates are translated by volunteers who for the most part just operate on donations. Unfortunately, on occasion they do get their efforts stolen and sold on Amazon. I know of at least one outstanding translator who quit translating due to having her works stolen and sold. Still a lot of great novels never get translated. Of course, ten years ago Chinese and Korean dramas were just subbed by volunteers at Viki and Dramafever so perhaps paid translators may be a thing in the future.
Her father's concubine switched her child (Jiang Xue Hui) with the child of the legal wife (i.e., Jiang Xue Ning)…
The switch wasn't discovered until Jiang Xue Ning and Jiang Xue Hui were 14 years old. So yes, by that time the birth mother loved Jiang Xue Hui as much as if she was her own child. Jiang Xue Hui was a very sweet, nice child and she is Jiang Xue Ning's real half sister.
Actually i wanna ask this question, I watched the beginning of ep 1 and JXN said she was in the village during…
Her father's concubine switched her child (Jiang Xue Hui) with the child of the legal wife (i.e., Jiang Xue Ning) and fled to the country with Jiang Xue Ning. Jiang Xue Ning was raised by the concubine thinking she was actually the concubine's daughter. After the concubine died, it was revealed that the 2 girls had been switched. Jiang Xue Ning's parents loved Jiang Xue Hui so they hid what the concubine had done, which is why Jiang Xue Ning is called the second daughter.
I've started watching this drama. Lead couple is cute.
But the Li Yan Ran character is obnoxious. I'm sure she's supposed to add humor but it's just falling flat.
Hopefully she will rapidly becomes like the clingy, obnoxious girl in My Fated Boy (which had a somewhat similar setup - older FL/Younger ML). In My Fated Boy, the obnoxious girl finally woke up from her obsession with the ML about a third of the way into the drama after she got into a fight with the FL and the ML looked at her with disappointment and hatred (by the end of the drama she actually became someone I was rooting for - just not with the ML).
ETD: I guess Li Yan Ran can be tolerated once you realize that her love line is actually with Xu Ning Yuan.
just finished this drama. the last ten episodes are really good. going to be one of my favourite costume cdrama.…
The name of the novel is A Lady's Tranquility.
Unfortunately, it's not fully subbed. Here's a link to its page on Novel Updates. Novel Updates provides links to the subbed chapters of the novel (couple of different subbers are working on it). Rephrased/Kunning has 130 of the 253 chapters completed. Novel Updates is free but I think you have to join in order for the links to work... https://www.novelupdates.com/series/a-ladys-tranquility/?pg=1#myTable
oooh! Did they fix the subtitle problem, where the song lyrics are wrecking the subs on some of the best scenes…
They didn't fix the subtitle problems in Episode 34, but you can get the SRT file from YT and strip out the song's wording from the subtitles so the words between the ML and FL are readable or replace the song's wording with the ML/FL dialog so their dialog is on screen longer. Just play the new SRT file with the video. The video and SRT file must have the exact same name and be in the same folder.
Episode 34 did have one of the best scenes between the ML/FL, making the slow burn romance so worth the wait...but I do agree, the dialog between the ML/FL is almost unreadable as originally subbed.
Ignore it - had to be done to pass censorship. Or you can interpret it as the modern day them 😬 hope you caught…
China has banned time travel in dramas as disrespecting history - so to get around the ban against characters time traveling it instead becomes a modern day person's imagination in writing a novel - the censors don't seem to have a problem with that.
And is the only fantasy element the FL waking up as her 18 yearild self
Yes, only fantasy is that the FL goes back in time. Drama is not a Xianxia like Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms or Ashes of Love where you have immortal heroes and creatures. More like Love Like the Galaxy or The Long Ballad.
