he’s 18 years old and a newbie general.

I love how this entire thread is just hating those roommates 🤣 they really are the worst part of the show. I decided to pause it for now to focus on Dream of Golden Years, but I'll keep an eye on reviews and see if it gets better

then he's doing a really good job! I was wondering why he was so strong as Sima Jiao but then here he's like a teenager. it shows how well he's able to get into character.

Duan Xu is 18 years old, I guess. So, he should look like an YA 😅
oh he is??? that's my mistake. I thought he's in his mid 20s. if he's playing an 18 year old, CFY is doing a really great job. when he had the strategy meeting in ep4, he looked so childish compared to the commander, which is what prompted my comment.

Chen Feiyu looks like a young adult playing dress-up, which makes him lack gravitas, but otherwise I really enjoyed the first 4 episodes. The fight scene in ep3 was very well done. He brought a level of fierceness that we don't normally see from him.

Title Love beyond the Grave Spoiler
Another wow, anticipating Miles Wei’s villain character!
I thought he was going to be the villain, but he seems to be working with the FL, no? unless he turns on her later on ...

Hahaha, your first sentence made me laugh. I'm glad someone else is watching DOGY and can compare. On the surface they're so similar: rural people trying to live their dreams in a competitive city. But DOGY has so much heart and warmth, so you feel like you're really connecting with the characters.

Whereas with this one, I don't really like anyone. And it's hard to root for people you don't like. DOGY stays very focused on the core ensemble, but LUTYY wants us to care about everyone, including the guy who manages the hostel, even if we don't really know them.

It's like they can't decide whether they're an ensemble show, or if it's focused on the leads. If it's an ensemble, you need to give us a reason to care about all these roommates instead of making them so annoying. If it's about the leads, why are we not focused on them then? Why are their stories being pushed into the background?

it's unfair but I can't help but compare this to the 2 other retro dramas in this genre: Our Dazzling Days and Dream of Golden Years. So far I don't care about the characters here the way I did for the other 2 dramas. The roommates are unlikeable and there's a lot of drama around the hostel itself, which I also don't really care about.

ahahaha me too, luckily this one is a short drama. I'm watching Dream of Golden Years and Live up to Your Youth, so I really need a break from all the nostalgic 80s/90s vibes and unwind with something fresh and easy

The title is wrong. You can't say "hold A court", but "hold court". But even then it sounds weird,…
yeah, that bugged me also. not sure I've seen a grammatical error in a title before

I feel you. it's crazy when the 2nd couple feels more real than the leads. at least Qi Min has normal emotions, even though he's crazy. Xie Zheng just exists looking pretty

I wasn't so sure about this, but episode 7 & 8 sold me!! The FL is so fun to root for, her boyfriend is the sweetest, and the mom has already grown so much and won me over! Plus I love the aunt & uncle, such a supportive core cast.

It's really heartwarming watching Xiaolan get a second chance at everything that was taken from her the first time around.

This is just another episode of building up her tending to his injuries😭we’ve been seeing this since the…
yeah, the show feels quite repetitive, as though they don't quite know what else to do with the couple to create intimacy. Also, it's quite annoying when they keep telling us he's SO injured, but almost every time we see him he's doing okay. The reason she keeps insisting she'll support him is because he's supposed to be quite hurt, but the show doesn't want ZLH to look "weak", so they're constantly contradicting themselves

yeah this episode was honestly quite bad. this is their biggest prisoner of war but she was allowed to just lead him out of the cave? huh?? I think they went a bit too far with the ridiculousness in this one

Fei Ni admitted her error in hiding the fake marriage contract poorly. But i don’t blame her for making one,…
personally, I'm a fan of if you're going to do the thing, do the thing properly. if you're going to fake being married, don't create hard evidence about how fake your marriage is. so my conclusion is it never should have been made in the first place.

what was its point anyway? it's not enforceable, so it's not a real contract. it's just a private agreement between the two. I'm not seeing what the contract is supposed to do that a conversation couldn't. and conversations don't lie around waiting to be discovered, haha.

Who said they're street smart? LOL I never thought that. He can be quite cunning and creative in tight situations,…
You were questioning whether they're street smart. So I started out by defining how I measure street smarts, so that I can justify how they fit that metric as a couple. Choosing to read that as condescension feels more like an ego thing.
