It should be noted that Yuto will be playing dual roles as both Aoki and Suzuki. This is the deviation from the movie as two actors played the roles. This is in line with the manga because Suzuki and Aoki look similar
They also changed the age and seniority dynamic kinda? Since Maki in the original was older but here is younger…
No, Maki is not younger than Aoki. The actor playing Maki - Itagaki Rihito is young, but it's because of the description of Maki - a man in his 30s who looks like someone in his teens. So Maki is young-looking, but definitely in his 30s.
The plot sounds a bit cliche with Japanese style movies but the reviews coming in have been positive so far, especially on Yuto's character and performance. I really want to watch it soon so I could make my own judgment.
I'm a Hey Say JUMP fan with Yuto as my fave and I wonder why it took me so long to watch this. what a great drama with a great cast! Completely unbiased, I thought Yuto did so well here, it's a really unconventional role even though it's still Yuto in suits. They really developed the story well, with the topic of CODA integrated, with all the highs and lows. It's a very well-written drama too, some of the lines especially uttered by Keiichi really made me think a lot. definitely will be rewatching. The love between Papa & Shizuka is so heartwarming, I teared up when Papa tried so hard to talk, calling himself Papa and calling Shizuka's name, only to be bullied by those kids. I also think the drama subtly touched on the issue of Japan's declining birth rate with the whole smart city project, which is a good way to really consider the true impacts on their society
Completed! Great cast! Great story, it just makes me feel warm all around. Love how CODA is incorporated into the story, it must not be easy for family members, especially in Shizuka's case, where she's the main support for her dad. But I love that they gave dad a strong personality, flaws and all, and that the town is full of kind people who make dad able to live like a normal person. The smart city project imo deals with the harsh reality in Japan where declining birth rate is subtly touched upon. The town simply didn't have enough residence to keep it going in the future, so they need outsiders to move in. As much as I love Shizuka, my fave character is the ML, despite his social awkwardness, he's a hard worker with a truly kind heart, trying his best to be considerate to every single person and taking every hardship in stride, truly the perfect guy for Shizuka.
It's now available on Netflix but unfortunately not worldwide. Seems to be doing well, ranked #2 in Japan in It's first week of release. Response online seems to be positive as well by people who watched it for the first time. It also currently has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes
I saw this movie years ago and came back here after deciding to rewatch it (im watching Yuto's works lately) and all i can say is that i definitely love it more the 2nd time (probably because im older now). When i first watched it i had no idea that Yuto was an idol from HSJ (heard the band before but not a fan at the time). I just remember thinking how the main lead is such an eye candy lol.. I like the story and i like the dynamic of the main couple. KFC probably a huge sponsor but other than that, i could feel the chemistry of the leads and how much they loved each other. The female lead might seem aloof but her childhood caused her to develop that kind of personality. It's really light so it's perfect to watch when you want to go for something light and not too serious. I know Yuto and Yuko went on to co-star in Suits and Suits 2 so that's a testament to their chemistry. I hope i can see them pair up onscreen again.
I left a review after watching it at a local cinema last night. Glad I went, and I enjoyed it more than I thought. Yuto is brilliant in this and I hope to see him in more movies. He would be perfect in an antagonistic role as he especially shines acting unhinged..
Nueng can be really dramatic sometimes lol I'm glad Thames is patient enough with her😆 Ep 11 was a good progression…
Nueng is definitely not a bad friend like Vivi said. Despite win literally outing her, Nueng still wanted to give her the benefit of a doubt. After all, as Thames accurately noticed, real Nueng and how Nueng acted in public are different people.
As for how this arc will conclude, im guessing ep 12 will tie all the loose ends for about 95% of it, with maybe a short scene in ep 13 before we move to Arty's arc. This is based on how Itch's arc ended. Took 6 eps + a little bit from ep 7. But at the moment, still seems like they need to address more things. After all, the relationship contract hasnt been revealed, and now we have mysterious attacker and Thames going MIA. Spoiler, that scene of Thames hugging a crying Nueng, i think thatll happen when Nueng finally finds Thames. Maybe the catalyst for them to admit their real feelings.
Ep 11 review: 4 standout scenes imo that really shaped Nueng's and Thames' characters: - Nueng comparing Thames to her late mom in the way he cares for her (and her dad actually telling Thames about it, 😆 🤣) - The outdoor date. Thames actually smiling. Nueng knew he enjoyed teasing and and went along with it. - Thames accurately noticed that real Nueng is not the Nueng portrayed to the public (i mentioned her demeanor is a defense mechanism before) - Nueng admitting she hated Mom but also cool enough to let him know that Mom was still his mother after all, and to not ruin their relationship and regret it
I definitely dont think mom is behind the attack, though. It's vivi for sure - that snake. Nueng still cant process that Vivi is evil. Nueng might be a b but Vivi doesnt deserve her as a friend.
Also, return of Kaew. Love it! Shes totally acting as the DIL and SIL now. So cute. She even calls her Mom now, not aunt pim or something.
If there is ever a vote from audience i will vote Luke with his handsome looks to stick with modeling and action…
IMHO, Luke gets roles because of his looks mainly. But does it mean he's not a good actor? Not really, he's a relative newcomer, learning a foreign language and improving. I believe he'll be better with time. But even in this drama, it's not really that bad. Just some off moments but in general i guess he's doing well . Again, just my opinion.
I think Nueng’s problem with Pim is supposed to be petty. After all, they’re supposed to be similar. She wasn’t…
It seemed petty, but trust me, it is anything but that, else Nueng wouldve moved on instead of holding on to her anger from so long ago. Simple fact is her dad and Pim didnt approach their relationship back then properly. Had they been more patient and gentle, Nueng would probably be able to accept Pim. Moving on so fast after a spouse death would obviously make a child upset. Also, Pim's approach of imposing her presence in Nuengs house was insensitive. She really appeared to be aiming to replace Nuengs mom, so of course Nueng would be upset. Removing photos without permission? Then telling Nueng that her dad needs to be taken care of too? Not cool considering Nueng was a teenager then and Pim was supposed fo be the adult
actually, i’m a little confused with regards to why nueng is so rude and hates pim so much - i understand that…
Id rather not drag the actors into this discussion and focus solely on the characters.
Anyway, for the photo scene, i didnt buy Pim's excuse of just cleaning the frame. Why would you remove a frame to clean it? You can just pick it up and wipe it with a rag. Clearly Nueng didnt believe her either. Per the flashback, her dad started dating Pim quite soon after her mom died so it is understandable why she would feel bitter and betrayed. She was grieving her mom's death and dad already found a replacement and the replacement also insensitively began getting rid of the traces of her mom in her own house. Dont forget, Nueng was a teenager when this happened and it must be difficult to process. Pim also told Nueng that her dad needed someone to take care of him, as if telling her to suck it up. Both her dad and Pim did so poorly as the adults when it came to explaining their relationship to her. It's never easy to accept that your parents are in a relationship with other people, especially if you dont approve their new lover. Her response is quite realistic tbh - and im saying this out of personal experience of facing something similar growing up.
Disagree on her treatment of her friends. Sure, shes not perfect and full story with vivi not explained yet . But she is in no way selfish. She literally gave away her luxury handbag to her friend because Vivi wanted it. She also went to the restaurant to warn thames away from vivi. It was a mistake but her intention was to make sure Vivi doesnt date wrong guys again and gets heartbroken
😆 you beat me to posting a review on ep 10. But completely agree. I cant wait for ep 11 tbh. They left us hanging…
Firstly, we can discard completely the first trailer from over a year ago, they clearly made changes since then - like replacing the actress playing View. The old trailer also seemed to be heading to the plot that the bros had no idea they had different fathers, imo. Anyway, the hug scene doesnt appear to be at the party because it looks like an office setting, i think. Need to rewatch.
I think vivi is the one who sends the goon to harm Nueng. I doubt mom would go as far as physically harming Nueng just to break them apart as that would be unforgivable. I think the preview is just to cause shock to us viewers.
Anyway, glad to find a mutual fan of this arc and this couple 😃 😊
Agreed! And from the first ep of this arc, you can see Nueng slowly changing as well. The idea is that Nueng and…
AFAIK, the reason why Nueng hates mom is clear as day. Her dad moved on too fast after her mom's death and pim tried to get rid of her mom's pics - so she felt bitter and betrayed. As for thames, concrete reason as to why he hates mom hasnt been given. Maybe not that apparent. But it is alarming when Nueng commented that she thinks he hates his mom more than she does and he doesnt even deny it
About Nueng, I don't get the hypocrisy, tbh. you'll love a bad annoying ML who would literally physically force…
Agreed! And from the first ep of this arc, you can see Nueng slowly changing as well. The idea is that Nueng and Thames are polar opposites who somehow are right for each other. Thames definitely isnt a dude in distress needing rescue. He's quiet and conservative but can and will stand up for himself and others when needed. He speaks his mind and doesnt shy away from confrontations. Let's not forget that Thames was the one who proposed the contract relationship to spite his own mother so if Nueng's treatment of mom is bad, Thames isnt any better.
