Did you watch the scene where t Beicheng danced with Hanjing in the little cute terrace when he said to her that he is longing for the day she will come back to him 😂 LOL.

Like in the novel, I have just seen a photo of the SML coming back ( I.e he is not dead yet). Oh dear, he is going to be evil I’m sure.

Resistance against the Japanese. Note that Japan invaded China around 1931, killed millions of Chinese until the end of WWII. The Ying army (Beicheng’s army) was working for the warlords and fighting against the south army ( revolutionaries or resistance army). When Japan invaded China, the south army was against the invasion. In the drama, Mr Shen & the FL are part of the resistance against the Japanese and her role I assume is to test Beicheng out as to whether he is working for the Japanese or they may persuade him to join force and defend the country. Please note also China has been invaded by the 8 nations beforehand, hence you have various foreign forces stationed in China. For example, Shanghai has been dived in various concessions like French concession, British, German, etc.

Now in the novel, he got shot by Beicheng when he was about to run away with Hangjing but he survived. He then became a gangster working for a gang / doing trafficking businesses with Japanese. He will only be killed by Beicheng’s men when his gang kidnapped his friend Shen who just appears in recent episodes.

Aunt Qi is the mother of the twins boys (brothers no 5 & 6). It is not clear in the drama who is the mother of Shuyi, I may have missed it but in the novel she is Beicheng's sister by mother & father. Beicheng also 2 older sisters of different mother.

She is so evil and what is so surprising to me is neither the ML, nor the FL question her motives and good intentions LOL. Beicheng is on guard against the warlord's daughter (the one that is in love with the SML).

I have no idea. It was just a shot where the SFM was forced to tell the truth to Beincheng, the sister and his households' staff. The FL was not in the picture.

That's what I find annoying about FL, she trusts everyone over ML when she claims that she's in love with him.
Couldn't she have asked him ? For all his faults, ML has never lied to her.
He even risked his life for her time and again while she didn't do anything to deserve his trust.

Don't worry, I have just seen an extract of one of the next episodes by chance that the Beicheng has found out about her schemes and that he pointed a g un on her head. The idiotic sister did not even realise that she was using her. SFL fell in the stairs but don't know why. Let's see LOL.

By the look of the trailer, it looks like Shi Yi likes Beicheng’s friend Sheng. In the novel, Shuyi got married early on to a guy Ke if I am not mistaken. So you could see the slight change here.

I was drawn towards the writing and plot of the novel. The writing is quite delicate, dreamy but yet violent. In addition, I was focussing on their love/hate relationship. To cut the story short. The end of the novel was about love & sacrifice that both characters have learnt to embrace and understand the true meaning of these. It is my view anyway but then again each to their own.

Agreed. The way they slightly changed the storyline does not completely come natural I.e a scene when SML snicked in the house to see Hangjing and asked her to run away with him. There was a moment of hesitation in Hangjing to kind of pondered should I or should I not. They should have just made her to be more assertive when it comes to her love to Beicheng instead of showing this. Then again it is just me, any thoughts on that please?

I feel you LOL. The thing this there are many heartbreaks in the novel minus the schemings of SFL and the sister. I was crying my eyes out reading the novel.

In the novel, she is very stubborn with many prejudices against Beicheng. I understand the way she behaves with him to some extent when she was bullied by him, domineering and taking decisions. But he has also tried to change for her, love her despite his own shortcomings. However, she has not shown any feelings for him all along and the way I see it is quite cruel. She only realises her love for him only towards the end of the novel when he does not know whether he will survive tin the battlefields or not. Hence, she has only told him that they have a son and he grows up nicely as a toddler. They both have lots of communication issues and trust in each other to be able to move past them.

I don’t think she is married to someone else. In the novel, she pretends that she is married to that man but in reality she is working as Tutor/nanny for his son. That man happens to be the one that saved Beicheng from death in the past. The drama’s writers may have changed the storyline of the novel though.

I’m hoping that the writers would keep the main points of the storyline and change a bit with the support roles. Hence, I still hope that the baby may not be lost after all but I may be wrong.

As explained below, Hanjing still had her baby. The baby boy was premature but survived. The FL had not tell the ML until the end when she realised that he was in a dire situation of death in the battlefields and decided to tell him about their child and stay with him. She also realised that all her hatred all these 8 years for the ML may not be all hatred but also love and the child is that link between them two. The ML’s existence & presence are ingrained in her heart.

I have not watched these episodes yet but I think there may be a twist (alternate the storyline by the writers) in the loss of the baby. It may be a plot that the doctors may have been paid by Fenqui so as to create a rift in the couple and then the FL would take the final decision to leave the ML for good. In the novel, she was pregnant of his child ( after he raped her) and then ran away with the help of his sister. She disappeared for 2 years and came back working as a teacher at and worked as a tutor/nanny to the man’s child you saw in the trailer. Think about it, it may be possible otherwise title would be too easy for us to see through the plot wouldn’t it?

I kind of agree with you given that Hanjing & Beicheng really have a very difficult/dramatic relationship in the novel. At least here in the drama, the writers have given them some moments of tenderness and love.
