Can anyone spoil me... At which ep main leads got together? any breakups? if any, after how many ep they got together?
It is long drama so I don’t recall everything. I need to rewatch the series but she decided to marry him in ep14 out of necessity but not out of love because her father got imprisoned and she got herself into trouble helping the SML after a failed attempt to kill a high ranked officer of the army. Their love has started to develop around ep18. There are many misunderstandings, miscommunication between the couple. From ep29 I all hell broke loose for the couple where she suffered from a miscarriage and she ran away. When she came back , she was playing as the ML’s friend’s wife as a cover. Around ep38, she admitted of her real identity and then the rest that follows by the ML sending her abroad for hehe sake of her safety. She gave birth to their child and the time has passed and Beicheng (ML) is still alive and Hanjing has decided to take their son to return to China & try to reunite with Beicheng. We don’t know whether the family has managed to reunite but we have some hope.
Quick question, so was Aunt Qi a concubine or a wife? It seems she was a concubine before she was "promoted" to…
My recollection from the novel is that aunt Qi was a concubine when she got married with daddy Xiao. Gosh, I do not like that system at all as a woman. She became a wife after Beicheng’s mum passed away.
The newspaper said 4th may movement. When i googled, that incident happen in 1921 and conducted by students. It…
I am no Chinese history expert but I am interested in Chinese culture in genera so apologies if I make mistakes sometimes. In terms of timeline in the drama, there might be some holes. Japan invaded Manchuria & northern China in 1931 as they were rich in raw materials. Japan started the full scale invasion of China around 1937. So you would see in ep43 that it was mentioned the Japanese invasion of Beixengxin, the city where the Ying army is . Beicheng’s must have sent Hangjing abroad around that time so i am not quite sure about 1921. She is staying in London for 6 years and then return with their son to find beicheng. In terms of history, from 1939, the Chinese army started the counterattack against the Japanese invaders hence the famous battle of Changsha. Battle of Douth Guanxi. I could see that the Ying army is part of Chiang Kai Check with the uniform of Republic of China ( which the west call Taiwan) and in the novel Beicheng was also fighting against the south army ( communists, revolutionaries). My limited understanding is at the time China was really in chaos and rules by warlords ( you could see daddy Xiao boss & Kang) and they kind of control trafficking to fund their army.another hole is the directors should have kept the US where Hanjing went as in the novel. In the drama, they mentioned about Hanjing leaving for London which was heavily bombarded by the German army during WWII.
It is not clear in the drama as I have not seen themor I may have missed the but they were mentioned by Daddy…
I will check this drama out. Yes, my friends’ family in Shanghai were slaughtered by the Japanese. My parents & grandparents witnessed the same atrocities committed by the Japanese when they invaded Hanoi. The majority of Viets of Chinese origins were killed or sent to concentration camps. My grandparents had to change their Chinese surname to a more Viet surname so as to avoid being slaughtered. Some of my Malaysian or Indonesian friends’ families of Chinese origins had suffered the same fate. Funny thing is when I chatted with some Japanese colleagues, they do not seem to know much about that horrible part of their history, kind of like rewriting their own history. I love Shawn Dou in a drama called From Survivor to Healer where he played as a psychiatrist but went through depression due to his own personal drama.
It is not clear in the drama as I have not seen themor I may have missed the but they were mentioned by Daddy…
Yes, that is right. What is a shame during that time is the country was in chaos after the Qing dynasty with the invasion of the 8 nations so there were warlords from the north, middle, and south so there was no unity within the country. In the novel, the Xiao family is leading the Yi ng army was not only fighting the Japanese but also the south army. Between, I used to go to Shanghai for work and just love the city because the people are quite westernised but yet kept their Chinese identity. It reminds me a lot about China when I watch these dramas.
I think I missed some info. XBC is the 3rd son of Xiao Family, where were the first and the second?? Also the…
It is not clear in the drama as I have not seen themor I may have missed the but they were mentioned by Daddy Xiao in one episode where he was on his way to the US with the twins to treat his illness. In the novel, they are 2 big sisters of Beicheng from another mother. Shuyi is the 4th and based on the novel, she is Beicheng’s sister from the same mother & father.
I don't think so. I believe it will end there. The rest are up to our imagination.
Like in the novel, it will be an open ending. Difference with the novel is Hangjing & cutie Nangui going back to China based on Cheng Du Ling live broadcast 😭.
But when they did it again? While she has short hair or long hair LOLBecause when she has short hair, he told her…
When she has long ha this time. There might be a bit of holes in the script between the time when he told her to go and that she does not need to carry his surname ( short hair) and the time now with long hair when she is about to tell him that she is pregnant. If I am not mistaken in the novel, he arranged for her & her parents to go to the US. At the last minute, she wanted to stay with him and sent her parents off. She came back to his town when the battle started to go down and when he was injured. She took care of him and told him that she wanted to live & die with him. Then, he took her out to a restaurant and drugged her and sent her to the US.
Now, if you compare with the drama, I assume that when he told her to go if she wishes even though he wants to keep her forever but he’d rather see her safe that she did not go then and stay with him??? Of course, she is now pregnant and he successfully sends her on the boat?? I’m just assuming of course. Thoughts?
After 6 years of separation yet again, Hanjing saw a photo in the newspaper provided by her female school friend. She cried as she always believes in her heart that Beicheng is still alive and little Cutie Nangui asked his mum who she was looking at the photo of the newspaper and she said this is papa just like in the novel. Difference is Hanjing & Nangui are setting off to return to China to reunite with Beicheng. Will this happen???
Ok, Hangjing & Beicheng are renewing their wows with Beicheng putting the earrings on Hanjing, the ones he gave her years ago. They are both drinking like the scene when they just got married. She was touching her belly and about to announce the good news about her being pregnant again. When she was about to tell him she fell asleep as he drugged her with sleeping powder in her drink so he could send her abroad. I assume he does not know that the will be daddy??? I swear these writers, why are you doing this to us?????
Yes, I’ve just seen the scene. The little boy Nangui is so cute.
Yep. I thought that Hanjing looked better in long hair. I’m going to miss this drama after today. I’ve just seen the chats on Weibo and everyone is hoping to see a family’s reunion rather than an open ending. Fingers crossed.
Ep 38 where she admitted that she is Hangjing. Ep 39 where she was forced to go back to the Xiao’s mansion as…
I think the writers make things more complicated for her than in the novel. Things like you or Dana have mentioned about her rushing towards Mu Zi, buying all the BS that any strangers would tell her instead of trusting her husband. Also, her lack of doubting all the schemes set up by the SFL or taking dangerous actions by joining the revolutionaries & rejecting Beicheng make the viewers upset about her character in the drama. In the novel, she is head strong but is not as harsh as to break his heart as shown in ep 38 for example.
Can anyone explain the ending of the novel, please? Thank you!!
I forgot to mention that Hangjing was not sure whether Beiching was alive or dead as she had learnt from The newspapers brought by her friend Mr Shen ( I.e brother Shen in the drama). She then remembers of her conversation with Beicheng before he drugged her to send her on a boat to the US that he only loves one woman in his life and that is her. She then cried looking at his photo on the newspaper and staring outside the windows, their child Xiao Nangui saw his mum tears and ran towards her asking who was on the photo. She then responded to nangui that this is dad and we will be both waiting for his return. Then the story with the young nurse saving Beiching I just mentioned.

There is photo of Beicheng & Nangui in the link. Apparently, the scene was filmed but not quite sure why they didn’t show it.
