He is. There are 164 chapters in the novel, only 40 episodes here, they had to make adjustments regarding that. Also unlike the drama where Gongsun Yin is headmaster of a literary academy along with being a strategist, in the novel he is only a military strategist so he will be shown later. He is ML's closest friend in the novel as well.

Deng Kai is the star of the show. I am so happy he is getting the recognition he deserves, because he has always been good.
Honestly I love flawed characters when I know they are not going to survive in the end, because that's what it should be. Qi Min can assault and burn a person live onscreen and I will never skip a scene, because of his interesting character and Deng Kai's marvellous acting skills.
But I understand there are people who are sensitive to such scenes, and that's okay too.

He plays a very important role in the story. Maybe you can skip the abuse portions , if you are sensitive to those. But skipping all his scenes, might confuse you in the later part of the drama, especially in the climax, because he, the woman he is obsessed with and their kid really play a vital role, like the story of the drama only comes to a full through them. The guy is also a vital part in an incident that happened 17 years back, so yeah.

Yes same family. So Wei Family is the noble family where Wei Yan, the prime minister and Wei Wan, ML's mother were the legitimate children. ML's mother married into Xie family, very powerful marriage for the nation, ML's dad was Xie Linshan, Military General.
FL's father has Wei surname, its a given surname, in those days, the one you serve, you will take their surname, no blood relation.

ML's uncle, see this is very complicated. I am just giving you a small summary.
ML's uncle is not very evil. But it would be a lie if we are to say he was not responsible. His sister was his apple of his eyes, his brother in law was his best friend. His nephew was the one he selected to be his successor. Wei Yan fell into love with someone, and was pulled into a conspiracy by the previous emperor. If there is a true villain in this story its the previous emperor. Qi Min and Wei Yan became villains for survival but they were not inherently evil.
But Wei Yan took decisions that ruined countless lives, he did not want to but he had to, hence he needs to face those consequences.

2ML's family, they just want power, nothing else. They want to control the king, have a very good powerful life. They have done corruption, they also make alliances that would be detrimental. But I just consider them a small villain, they do not play a huge role.

They have fight scenes together. Its such a pity we don't have 50 episodes, we could have a lot of them. Yeah, I am excited to watch that as well, there's a difference between reading and seeing it, hahaha!

He will have, if they go by the context of the novel, ML has his own arc, he has his fights, his relationship with his uncle and other stuff, especially a palace banquet scene.
We also have them fighting together against common enemies.
I think because XZ got repeatedly injured in first many episodes, as you guessed right, once he recovers properly, we will get to see him.

XZ is as important as FL. Just like in the last 4 episodes, the main arc was surrounding the FL, hopefully there will be episodes where the main arc surrounds ML as well. The novel did that in a balanced way, so I hope that from the director as well.

You're absolutely right. He was always weak since childhood. But due to the extensive surgeries done to his face, because his nanny believed a man with so much scars cannot be the heir, those surgeries made him more weak. Hence the white hair.
But he is not dying now. Most of the times his coughing are pretentious in front of his brother, and others from Sui Family, so that they think he is still weak and hence are not threatened.
