Well if he is not around I stick to my first comment ,he does not need to be defended in front of those people because they do not matter( or their opinion on SY does not matter for JB). There was a scene if you remeber with her little sister ,maybe you skipped it when little sister kept insisting with what is so great about SY and then JB made it clear.

If it is done in front of him that can make things worse. It can be interepreted that he needs her to vouch for him.

I really think JB does not give a damn about what the others are thinking.She does not bother to explain anything to the uncle until he makes a conffesion, she does not even want to give details to the sister, she ignores her dad at home for making all the crazy scenes etc. As I see it ,in general,she is not wasting words or explanations with the people and topics she does not wishes to. Visible on filming set also. I like that.I feel like her little world with her and SY is for them only and should not be explained to others when their intent is visible from the questions themselves.
