I’m on episode 13 and am considering dropping it. I usually like slice of life dramas and I think the acting is excellent. But the plot is tired and repetitive and there are too many filler scenes. I also personally despise plots based off of misunderstandings, caused by half truths and outright lies. I don’t understand why they broke up in the first place. Would it have been too much trouble for Kim Da Mi’s character to explain to her boyfriend that she was going through a major hard time financially and may not be able to go abroad with him? Instead of breaking up with him and then pining and mooning? I get impatient with plot like these that’s why, despite the cast excellent acting the drama is a 6, at best, for me. Mad shout out to the idol character, I found her empathetic and warm. My best character in the whole drama.
I honestly don’t understand the amount of hate the FL character has in these comments below. It’s like I’m not watching the same drama. Up to three quarters of the drama, the one thing the FL could accuse Rong Dingkun of doing was burning her family’s house and neighborhood down and being responsible for the death of her neighbors. It is understandable that at the time she could justify having a relationship with Jiashang under those circumstances. But after she found out that Rong Dingkun killed her parents and younger brother. Why do you guys not expect her to break off her relationship with Jiashang and seek revenge? What do you guys expect her to do? Fold her hands remain lovey dovey with the son of a man who murdered her family? Put yourself in her shoes and see if you can do the same. Any normal person will want to distance themselves from that situation. And to those people who claim that she hurt members of the Rong Family? How and When did she do that? She has always treated the members of the Rong Family with kindness and respect. And even saved the second daughter and encouraged her to live well. It’s so easy to pile on hate on the FL, because the story doesn’t provide enough romantic fluff that we expected. But remember, this is a revenge drama, the romantic stuff is secondary. And the FL only wanted to destroy the Rongs illegal business, not their legitimate one, so exactly what did she do that was so bad? As for working with Meng, why not work with him? He’s her mentor, did a lot for her, helped her a lot and they have a common enemy. Meng himself did not rape the Rong daughter, his subordinate did, as a consequence of his actions. From the dialogue of the drama, it implied that he dealt severely with the rapist. What went on between the Meng Family and the Rongs was war; and there were many casualties such as Concubine Sun, Wen, Fanhua. I don’t see as much vitriol for Rong Dingkun who is the main villain of this drama.
Cute finale… I was hoping for a weeding and babies but ok … lol
Yeah, I agree. I’ve no idea why C-dramas like to do this ethereal inconclusive endings instead of a normal realistic HEA. We don’t really know if she came to the dance or if it is just his imagination.
I accept that we all interpret the story and the scenes differently but it seems to me incongruous to say that…
I like to think that Qiu Yan developed some feelings for Qiu Xuan, perhaps a crush and some level of affection; although she was never truly in love with him. It is possible for a woman to have more than one man in her heart at a time and I’m glad that this drama didn’t shy away from showing it. When she broke down in her drunken confession to Liang Yi that she may never find a man who will treat her as well as QX did: and when she stood at the Marquis house and reminiscences over past experiences she hadwith QX, you could see the pain in her expression. No woman does that unless there is a degree of affection she has for the man. She broke things off with QX partly because her sister guilted her into doing so, and partly because she realized with her current circumstances, there was no future with QX, a powerless offspring of a duke; coupled with the fact that she and Liang Yi are just much more compatible. Plus knowing that QX slept with her sister was the nail in the coffin of their ever getting back together. I agree that Liang Yi is a much better match for her, in intelligence, wit, action and interest. They have similar traits and personalities. To be honest QX is a better match with QM in terms of abilities and personality. But with QM being such a snake I wouldn’t wish her upon anyone.
I have developed a serious case of dislike for Qiu Min, she’s the very worst kind of female: a hypocritical, sanctimonious, goody two shoes. She acts like she’s better and more moral than anyone else, but when her true nature comes out, she’s more backstabbing and does more reprehensible things than her more outspoken and honest sister. Say what you will about Qiu Yan, she’s stubborn, unruly, rude, impetuous but you can never accuse her of deliberately crossing the line to hurt people. I thought she went too far in the investigation of her adopted mother’s death. But that just shows how loyal she is to anyone who cares about her. See how she protected the forth madam’s secret of adopting an outsider to be her son, when she could have ratted her out- and this 4th madam was the one who wanted to sell her as a concubine; and how she shouldered the responsibility of her family when Old Madam passed away. The fact remains that QM would most likely have not been raped if she had stayed with her sister in the front yard instead of acting like she was too pure to stay there, isolated herself and got raped instead. I hope she doesn’t end up with Qiu Xuan - he’s too good for her. She can be satisfied that she ruined the relationship between Qiu Yan and Qiu Xuan for good.
What kind of a sh!tty ending is that? I would have accepted a sad ending where Sumo died or a well deserved HEA for our lead couple. But this kind of head scratching ending is confusing . And the ending episodes were so rushed. If they were going to cut the episodes to only 43. They could have cut down episodes featuring Nasheng & Yanxi or Canglu’s plotting and paced the drama better. I can’t believe I spent more than 40 hours of my life on a lead couple with a crappy ending. Smh.
Also was the kid in the car with his dad of relevance? I understood if it was just an opener of the dramas, but…
I think it just showed that not only the passengers on the bus was affected by the explosion. Other cars were affected tooo, casualties like the kid and his dad died in the explosion. And each time they took a step closer to getting out of the loop, they were able to lower the body count. So at the end, the kid and his dad were able to avoid the explosion due to the efforts of our brave heroes. And ironically, no one will ever know this because they are not a part of the bus passengers. Also shows the domino effect of people’s decisions and actions.
Despite its time loop plot and English heavy OST, Reset is surprisingly a quintessential (Mainland) Chinese drama.…
I think the reason why commenters are likening it to kdramas is because
1) It’s short. Only 15 episodes, unlike the usual many-episode C-dramas we see;
2) They’re not afraid to show poor people, poverty is portrayed in a realistic light You see people living in garages which is akin to a roof-top apartment in Seoul
3) The police was not perfect, and the interrogation scenes portrayed in the drama were tough to watch.
All in all, the drama depicted a level of realism that you don’t often see in exported C-dramas to the international audience. (Although are present in the ones viewed within China). We mostly see a lot of fluffy Cdramas where the leads are super rich or are depicted as poor but living in huge, well furnished, spacious apartments. Personally, I’ve gotten sick of fluff. Reset was like a breath of fresh air. A welcome change. That’s why it resonates so strongly with the international community.
RESET was very satisfying, in _every_ regard. And it was the first c-drama I watched with my whole family! (They…
I agree about the ill-fitting wig. Was quite jarring to watch and pulled me out of the show. I wonder why the actress couldn’t have used her own hair; at the very least, if she had long hair and didn’t want to cut it, she could have pulled it into a bun.
Some people said how bad Yuqi is. I love how Chen Yuqi isn't a one dimensional actress who only takes the same…
@cesia_07 I agree with you wholeheartedly! Actually, Bai Ying’s character is one of the main things that drew me to this drama, while over-exuberant, silly and loud characters such as Nasheng’s is a huge turnoff. Unfortunately, C-dramas are rife with energizer-bunny like characters like Nasheng, but for me as a viewer, such high energy level female leads are exhausting to watch especially when they make senseless decisions just to act and look ‘cute’. Give me an introspective, mature, quiet and sensible female lead any day, and I will ignore myriad plot holes and fall in love with the drama. I thought the actress who plays Bai Ying did a remarkable job portraying the character. I didn’t care for Yukee Chen before, but now, I’m a fan!
Yu Huan is such an evil character. Even a mermaid that was good to him and served him faithfully, he only used as a tool. He is part Konsang, how can he wish to destroy part of his heritage? And I don’t get why the Heavenly King wants to destroy Kongsang. Is it because he killed Bai Wei?
they handled the characters storyline so badly ! The girl who gets harassed gets no revenge, we get many scenes…
The girl who gets harassed turns into a half zombie and nearly burns down the school. Also she attacked two people who ‘abandoned’ her when she was bullied. A lost teacher and her cowardly classmate. I won’t exactly say she didn’t get her revenge. There’s a bit of closure to her plot line. As for the baby, she was rescued by the cop and kept with him under quarantine. I saw a quick pan to the baby in his arms before he was locked up. It’s safe to assume that they would provide him/her with formula and baby supplies.
u have to wait for better subs, the ones that are out are just machine translated, the ones subbed on viki are…
@Firefly88 Agree with you about viki subs. Their translations of the timeline is very confusing. They keep stating 100 years, but referring to it as a decade ago. Someone ought to tell the translators that 100 years is a century not a decade!
