If you're watching in English, I found that the subs "English [CC]" are better than "English". I don't know why…
I only compared one scene so far but you're probably right. netflix subs are still weak imo compared to what fansubs used to deliver for kdramas, which is so frustrating because they have the $$$ to do better.

What’s with the engagement with the other prince? Does it last long
It lasts like 2 eps and doesn’t go beyond the king’s decree. It’s really written in to highlight even nice men with good intentions can restrict women unintentionally esp when they make such unilateral decisions.
This drama really deserves a higher rate. Such a fun easy watch. Not stressful at all. Great enemies to lovers…
You summarized it so well. I’ve watched so many rom coms that missed the mark but this show delivered on both romance and comedy without torturing its viewers unnecessarily.
Keep watching unless you want a spoiler which I can write below! :)
They deal with this conflict in the later episodes. Turns out she used a special ink, squid ink, when signing the marriage documents. It disappears after awhile. So technically no legal record of her marriage.
I have to say this. THE ACTRESS IS INCREDIBLY TALENTED. There are times when her character was irritating but…
First time seeing her and I thought she was fantastic. The comedic scenes but also the dramatic ones too—she cries so beautifully when her characters not faking it. 😅
I saw come comments finding ep 25 plot odd but I think they were trying to keep to the theme of freedom. There’s a scene after the koi dance where Lingyu and Lu Yun are talking at night and she talks about how people want beautiful things—like bird in a cage or fish in a pond.
Through both Fan and the Prince we saw how their concept of “love” made her feel confined, even though the prince’s intentions were good…it was unilateral. Lingyu mentions only Lu Yun loves her for she is—not her beauty or social adeptness. With fan, it was psychopathic and obsessive wanting her as an object to admire and literally caging her. (Very Joe from Netflix “you” of him 🥴).
Episode 25 does come out of nowhere but it’s the final conclusion to the running theme they’ve had about being free and being loved for who they are and even in that scene she’s the one who finds freedom. Lu Yun is there to support her but Lingyu is the one to break free from the chains on her own and saves them both with her quick thinking—with Lu Yun’s love driving her.
Now whether any of that is necessary is up to the viewers but I ate up the avalanche angst scene they gave me so whatever lol. Especially her finding Lu Yun’s reply to her note. 😮💨
ep23why did I cry when he left his assets behind? who else cried?
meeeee. the way that entire scene was filmed, as if she were left out, her standing behind his blood family and then add on the fact that she's not the one to show her sadness/worries. but at that moment when she saw what he left behind, that broke her. more emotional scenes will be coming up!
