Come to think of it…I did notice YS saying to her “we’re meant to be together coz we’re both mean “ I tot then it was a weird thing to say. But now I think you may be right. The script toned down her meanness probably to make her more likeable. Just as apparently, HBY’s darkside and creepiness was also toned down.

Just wanted to say that summoning him back earlier may not equate to rekindling their love earlier. CSS is one stubborn lady. Plus it’s a whole myriad of things that happened that pushed everything along. First and foremost I believe the Empress must die. She was CSS last float in her sea of self-inflicted loneliness and sorrow. Had Empress lived on CSS wldve continued her self isolation. There must also be the LJT-cliffhanger incident and WYJ-fire crypt incident to push things along.

So I think the 5 year gap is necessary. It makes their reunion more robust and cherished. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

As for when SS almost died, someone mentioned she was sick for a very long time, like a year. If that’s true then your guess is likely in correct since HBY couldn’t have possibly be lying on the cliff half dead for a year! 😅 ….but I guess the drama digressed from the novel quite a bit in the later chapters so it’s anyones guess when CSS was on the brink of death.

Regarding the scene where she woke up when 3P arrived I felt she was really too cold in her attitude towards HBY life-death situation. I think she said something like “He’s not dead yet? “ Ouch! Frost bite!!

WL and ZLS are always speaking with each other in a Scechuan ?? language. No one else in the production and cast speaks that! In the livestream they were even asked to profess their love to each other in that language! It is a rare language? That even the rest of the cast wants them to speak it. In the BTS the 2 seem to be speaking this secret language to each other. In the BTS of their other dramas, do they also speak this language to other actors?

Anyway I think they’re so cute and so sweet speaking their own language in their little own world. What are the odds ? They’re meant for each other!

Yes the Empress tried again on her deathbed too! Poor Empress how could these 2 stubborn people defy her dying wish for them to reunite?! Ok suddenly I’m agree with these 2 pp forsaking the kind Empress like that!

Yes yes yes!! I honestly actually thought that after that rescue attempt they’d kiss and make up!! Oh how I underestimated her stubbornness!!

I think she also thawed a bit when HBY was adjusting her stirrups and she saw him wearing her namesake on his wrist!! She said “your hand…” and the silly guy cut her short and said “oh that’s frostbite” Had he let her finish her sentence it would’ve been something like “Your hand, why do you have a SS string around it” And he’d reply “Coz I love you to bits still and I regret what I’ve done boohoohoo take me back!” Hahaha ok it’s my withdrawal symptoms acting up.

Oh so many good points you have that I want to circle and comment like a teacher marking a students essay! 🤣🤣 So to ease the process let me number the paras hereinafter

1) So why did he say what he said to the Empress? Did he mean what he said? ….that he had no regrets (even tho he later said he regretted it the moment CSS walked into the massacre place) Was it therefore all lies? If so why did he lie?

2) Yes, it beats me too why he didn’t bother to explain stuff to CSS directly but then I think he did try but CSS shut him up and went on to talk about how he asked her to love him so she did, trust him, rely on him blah blah. I think after that speech he just realised how unforgivable his deed was and decided he’s not going to explain things to her. It’s all too late and he needed to torment himself to lessen his guilt I’d imagine.

Also when Emperor asked whether SS even know about all the stuff he’s done for her HBY replied no because he tot SS will not be happy to know he’s still somewhat “controlling” her life in the background. I think he has a point. I recall she’s a bit annoyed that he kept saving her and hence making her owe him more and more.

3) hmm…..she can’t be gravely sick in the palace right if The Coffin was being prepared back at her home….🤔 Maybe she was sick right after she left the palace after the engagement breaking scene and when she recovered it was when HBY was about to leave for the North. Given he was so seriously injured and recuperating under the watchful eyes of the Emperor, it must have been quite a long period b4 he was fully recovered to be allowed to go to war again by the super protective Emperor. Maybe when CSS went to join Empress in the palace, Empress was already there for like many months already?

Likewise reading yours and others perspective that’s different from mine actually makes it easier to accept the drama better and hence feel better! That’s the beauty of this well scripted carefully made masterpiece. No gaping holes anywhere.. no black and white reality. Everything has 2 sides. Makes viewers ponder and analyse…draw us all in and make us so emotionally invested in the characters and the drama.

This Drama is IRREPLACEABLE. ….we’re all dead. No drugs left.

It was the same for me when he expressed his regret at the crypt! A little unbelievable because it was so out right contradictory to his reply to Empress’ ques. Maybe that was what CSS was thinking too hence her shocked expression. If the drama provided thought bubbles then hers would “Wud the ??!” 😆

Yes I can’t agree with you more that CSS has good reasons to have reacted and suffered the way that she had, I think the script and director did a good job laying that foundation. However it left little time to follow through and I think it would’ve been good to show us the part where she became so ill a coffin was prepared for her. That would’ve been very impactful and wldve explained her hard hearted actions later. Btw while on this topic when do you think she fell ill? There was no time for that in the drama. Right after she asked the Emperor to break her engagement with HBY, Empress asked and was granted her deposition. Very soon after Empress was deposed, CSS joined her in the palace. There’s no time for her to fall gravely ill. She was ill for a year apparently.

The one thing I disagree with you is your preference for more grovelling from HBY. I think his suffering and punishing himself in silence is more poignant and shows more deep major regret. If he asks for forgiveness it means he thinks he may get it so he thinks he’s forgivable. But the HBY in the drama can’t even forgive himself and does not think he’s worthy of being forgiven by SS. I think I prefer that perspective. What might help though is having scenes to show SS learning more about how he’s been punishing himself all these years. Saving his bro, risking his life to even save YS dad,…. making SS realise he’s suffered enough. That’s why I can’t believe that I found a reason to like LJT (albeit for about 2 seconds) when she chided SS (when they were in the carriage) for being so heartless and telling her how HBY had suffered for 5 years wanting to die In order to atone himself!

Yes it is indeed that. He was weighing the 2 - revenge vs CSS which is more impt and he did that following CSS’s advice. I believe they flashback to that conversation of theirs when he was deciding what to do. So it would seem he chose revenge over her. That’s quite hurtful for CSS. I’d rather HBY didn’t think that but just felt she’d be safer not to be involved.

You really think that she’s have forgiven him earlier if he’s been hanging around? That’s interesting. I actually don’t know what to think. Maybe she needed time to heal…🤔

But I believe that had HBY given the different answers to the Empress, it would’ve kicked started the thawing process and shortened the reconciliation period somewhat. That’s based on my observation of her reaction towards HBY when he confessed to LB’s wife in the fire basement that he had regretted his actions.

True (vis-à-vis your caveat)…BUT this confession thing is like the hardest thing that HBY can ever do…in fact he never did it. It was That hard.

Each time he had wanted to it was only for that particular moment…. after a lot of coaxing and softening from CSS… I’ll give him credit for at least wanting to tell her….for saying “Actually I…..” Hahaha I know I know I’m biased.

So I think for him to confess his background story it’s not about him finding the time…it’s about CSS creating another moment…this time maybe alone, just the 2 of them on a tiny secluded island 10000 miles away from any civilisation.

CSS said to him, you asked me to rely on you, I did, trust you, I did….but you did none of that. Something along those lines… Yes that’s all true but she’s not comparing like with like again! Her issues were all quite mild and insignificant. His on the other hand, a young child witnessing his fake dad killing his own dad, massacre of his entire family with their heads severed and hung on display, massacre of the whole city, up against a dangerous and powerful man, risking his life, risking CSS and Cheng family lives, emotionally tormented for over a decade!! How can CSS compare all that and all her trivial stuff on 2 hands like that? Where’s QiQi when we need her?!

Great analysis there! I think you’re absolutely right! She gave him many chances…even after the painful line he said to her right after the massacre “Let’s part here and now and never meet again” she still hadn’t given up on him yet but risked her life the next moment rescuing him on a horse.

So what would’ve been ideal you think? That he successfully tell her the truth (I believed he tried 3 times, each time starting with “ Actually I….” and then someone would interrupt.) Followed by Detective CSS joining in with the investigation and finding all the requisite evidence in the Nuwa ceramic doll thingny and Ling Yi and family gets executed by the Emperor. HBY and CSS gets married and build that nice house together and have kids. 😍

I feel a sliver of hope!! Give us the missing episodes PLEEAAASSSEE!!

I have a question please. That scene where the Empress questioned the injured HBY (fresh from being rescued from his jump off the cliff, ….with his hair let down and looking all cool and sexy) whether he had intended to abandon CSS when he went on his killing spree to which he answered “Yes”, followed by another question - whether he regretted his action and he replied “No”……

What if HBY had answered “No” to the first question and “Yes” to the second? What do you think CSS would have done?

I felt that from the moment he jumped off the cliff she turned into an ice Queen. That conversation she had with the 3rd Prince when they were heading to the palace to defend HBY is a baffling one for me. She told 3P that if she fails to defend him and he has to die, then she’ll die with him…but she said all this with a stone cold face. So I’m wondering what the whole thing is about…. And then it got more confusing when she started giving examples of how she is one lady who can live well without a man, without HBY. ..Anyone have any idea what’s going on in her head there?

That’s why I think my answer to my earlier question above is that CSS would’ve done the same regardless of how HBY answer Empress’ 2 questions. She would have given up on her relationship with HBY, given up HBY.

Her turning icy cold is much much worse for HBY….and me, a shipping viewer than just being totally enraged and filled with hatred. At least there’s some feelings albeit negative ones for the man. Icy cold signifies No Feelings left, heart turned into stone….
