Hahaha …. to be very honest you are half right only - yes the romance is nice but the mundane stuff in the village is very enjoyable to watch. Her sister is so cute, the mean old ladies and the ex boyfren are so mean and despicable it’s so fun and satisfying to watch them get their retribution, And that whole conversation between the baby sister and the ML’s best friend in the FL’s home about how ML married FL and the captured messenger bird was super hilarious - I had to rewind and watch again.
And the whole time I was very intrigued and curious about both the ML & FL’s back stories. I really enjoyed the first part of POJ. Basically, for me at least, when the characters are well developed and likeable or interesting, and the story well told, I’d be more invested and hooked. Which is not so the case, at least for me, for G of D sadly.
You may not believe me but I didn’t complete POJ…..I’ll probably go back to complete it later. Partly becoz the story arc is already quite obvious where it’s heading so not much surprises left, the comedic bits have also dwindled and I also felt that the romance part was getting a little overwhelming and cringy. It was more enjoyable to watch the courting stage. The romance of the 2nd and 3rd leads I totally didn’t like and forwarded some of that. But one of the best thing I really love about POJ is the cinematography, story telling, set design, casting and editing. I think the director did an amazing job at that and made all the actors and scenes look aesthetically pleasing! I think G of D did a very good job here too. The set design is very unique - esp the Guardian headquarter & the Alchemist headquarter…but the FL’s palace is a little too exposed and almost alfresco or something. Looks more like a glamping location if u know what i mean.
And yes I did watch Nirvana in Fire a long time ago, twice in fact! I hate to disappoint you but I really enjoyed that (enough to accept that ridiculous back story of how MCS got a new face!). Anyway, that drama is truly a masterpiece. Btw I watched part2 too. It was not bad but paled in comparison to part 1 I feels….
OMG EP 54…. What in the infinite chaotic cosmos is going on here??!!! This is seriously the worse directing I’ve ever seen. EPIC FAIL!!! How can this production team put something like that out in the public? This is so bad. It’s unbelievable.
I really like XK and BL…. but this drama….omg it’s so so not nice. I gave it a chance…. I forced myself to watch till ep 33….forwarded a large part of that and fell asleep so many times and finally today, I’ve had enough. So I jumped to the middle of the last episode….and omg what utter nonsense… cant understand the editing….and who in the right mind would cast the ML & FL as the children of themselves??? That’s like incest. This is a fine example of bad story telling & poor character build up. And the characters of the ML & FL are not very likeable and questionable. It is such a pity.

Does any one know what’s the purpose of introducing the gold spirit? I think it’s got to do with the part where it crept into FL’s room in ChangXi Palace and she captured it….right after that FL looked surprised and then she said to herself something like “How come I could…..” What did she mean? There was no follow up after that.

I guess the prob is coz the FL is TXW and I came here right after completing POJ to ease my POJ withdrawal syndrome 😅😆 And it also doesn’t help that I find the ML’s family members not that likeable and his family dynamics leave much to be desired. Good thing that his guardian colleagues are fun and interesting.
But for me the main problem is I don’t know what the whole point of this drama is — like what’s the grand plan or purpose. For this kind of narrative, the core drive should be the ML trying to get back to where he came from… but someone kindly shared he doesn’t want to return to his sad real life, which is fine… except then at least give us a clear quest, like finding out what happened or uncovering some truth.
And that group of numbered people linked by their cellphones… who are they, why did they appear, and why should anyone care? That’s the issue — I don’t give any hoots about most of the other characters because I don’t know who they are or what their story is. When a drama is told well, every character has an arc, you get invested, you wanna know more, and you care about their development. Here, it feels like random pieces thrown together without a narrative spine.
So I’m actually ok to watch a non‑romance drama but at least give me a clear narrative drive or character arcs to care about. I was hoping to see more of the FL coz apart from my POJ withdrawal and the fact I like TXW the actress, I felt the drama at least developed her character well and made me interested in her arc. That’s why I pointed out her lack of screentime — not because I only want romance, but because she’s one of the few characters written with some depth.….albeit im biased towards her.

Yes. The fact that he stall wanted to stay married to his wife after finding out her true identity says a lot about his demon tolerance but still, finding out that his dad (whom he couldn’t even recognize!) is the Demon Lord is a big deal in this story arc and yet just mentioned by the by.

Yes. I agree. Towards the end I was fast forwarding the side stories. It was ok initially because the side stories were funny, light hearted and short but they got longer and longer and heavier.
ML & FL’s background is so so complex…. Not enough focus there… esp the part about ML being the Cat Lord’s son! Man that sprouted out from no where!! And disappeared just as fast! No follow up. No explanation! Not even a chat between the ML & FL abt this new found revelation. I mean how did the righteous demon slayer ML feel finding out that his own dad was the Demon Lord??! Some character building that is.
You might be farther into the drama by now, but I'll just say this: There's no reason to assume that he even wants…
Yeah that makes a lot of sense…So I don’t understand why the director didn’t make ML think about all this out loud. It’s only natural that someone who suddenly stumble into a completely different world and era, with completely different family members would feel confused, unsettled and very worried. What about his real family members in the modern world? Shouldn’t he think about them too?
