The badies in this drama are one of the poorest I’ve encountered in C drama. A whole big bunch of them huddling in a sad tiny old hut! This must be quite a low budget production especially also considering the FL doesn’t leave her village at all.
I just wanna say…in the cave during that snow storm, the ML could’ve used snow to build a ‘door’ at the mouth of the cave to block the wind instead of using his body.
I’m at ep 8. So far the story is very interesting and entertaining. The leads and cast in general are great. So far I’ve only 2 small complaints. 1. It’s not so convincing how and why SL fell so hard for XY. They shdve built the relationship up a bit more in the beginning. 2. ML’s nose is crooked!

Like how CRXY could develop and successfully execute an elaborate scam to lure the super intelligent TSJ & XY into a trap at the heavily guarded fox territory only to assassinate the wrong person!
Although this deviation from the novel is quite a nonsensical one I can see how it softens the plot by cushioning the o/w even heavier blows on XY, CX and those around them. Makes for an all round happier ending. But then by doing so everything just seemed kind of forced. Like the writer tried to cut the edges of the puzzle pieces not meant to join together in order to join them all together. It’s like in the entire S1, many many doors were opened and S2 is a mad rush to close all the doors asap to keep everyone happy. What a pity.
Did XY abandon CX in the end? He blessed her wedding and she gave him the medical book when she completed it. The part that didn’t sit right for me is this - why did he have to confess his ‘incestuous’ love for XY after he has decided to accept TSJ as her hubby?? So hypocritical isn’t it? What good does it do for him? By right, under such circumstances his confession shd make XY cringe and feel disgusted. Crazy guy. And frankly, why does everyone think CX has got all the traits to be the greatest emperor?? All the ideas and hard work that got him to the throne came from everyone else. The only thing he did was marrying princesses and noble ladies. That kind of makes him rather pathetic don’t you think. Like a gigolo 😝

I suppose if one keep aside one’s ML bias it is very possible every ML’s screen time was cut in S2. After all, it is less than half of S1. I’ve just completed S2 and I feel that it was rather rushed.
Anyway, despite all the grouses from audiences about the many and various aspects of the drama, regardless of the differences in opinions amongst the different shippers, or between the novel lovers vs the drama lovers, for me, it is a very enjoyable drama.
The cast is fantastic, from the main leads to the minions, the protagonists to the antagonists, they all put up very convincing portrayal of their respective roles. 👏🏼👏🏼 The cinematography, the direction, the production as a whole…are all very good! I’m just happy I’ve found a drama that hooked me in and transported me into the story a few hours a day. Such a great way to destress and relax. These days, there aren’t many such dramas I’m sad to say.

From what I can gather so far….XY has 2 conditions for her other half (1) he must not be married or have other women in his life (2) he must not go against her brother and all who are dear to her. TSJ’s got baggage (1) and XL baggage (2).
For most part of the earlier episodes the focus and XY’s focus was on TSJ removing his baggage. As TSJ went about sorting that out, XY didn’t help him at all and turned to FFB for company. She later confessed to TSJ that her remaining passive while he dealt with the matter alone against evil FFYY & TSH was one of her greatest regrets. It wasn’t that she didn’t love TSJ that much and went to frolic with FFB instead, but it was her putting on her defence mode by not investing too much emotionally on TSJ because of her fear of disappointment.
It was only when she thought TSJ made FFYY pregnant and hence, all hopes gone for TSJ to remove his baggage that she then completely shifted focus on XL removing his baggage (by merely asking and hinting).
Her defence mode was fully engaged even during the 37 years in the sea shell. She questioned why TSJ didn’t care one bit about her during this period unaware that he was in a coma. XL was the only person she was in contact with the entire 37 years. He saved her life and cared for her this whole time. He was her only source of comfort during that time because she only had access to him. So ofcourse she’d want and expect to see him first when she woke up and be disappointed when he didn’t go see her. I’d be disappointed that way too in that scenario. But it was the moment she found out TSJ gave up his life because he thought she had died that made her shed her defence mode. (Yeah it seems TSJ was such a wimp and loser to have done what he did. It’s a turn off for many readers here but hey! what can you do, the girl digs it man! 😅 XY is a complete sucker for this type.) Anyways, 5-6 episodes left to go and I’ve not seen anyone else completely gaining XY’s trust in the romance department other than TSJ, that’s very telling coming from someone with XY’s background.

The blow was so huge to her but yet she couldn’t forget him afterwards as demonstrated many times when she poured her heart out to CX and later also when she admitted it to TSJ. So she loves and wants to be with such a person and not say for example a mere soulmate?
As for putting only XL in the ape mirror I honestly believe it is because he is so elusive and XY knows will not be a permanent part of her life so she keeps his image instead. For sure she values him as a good friend who cares a lot for her and saved her many times. On the other hand, there is no need to keep anyone else’s image because for eg, for CX, he’s always around and visits her like daily. For TSJ, he is someone she wanted and expected to spend her life with and at times, when he wasn’t that to her ( coz of the baggage problem), he was someone she wanted to totally forget and move away from so there is never a need to keep his image. And when he ‘died’ and she missed him, XY can conjure his images in her mind and visualise him! She doesn’t need a mirror for that. Plus she was in denial about his death and just wanted to keep waiting for him.
As for the lover bugs and how they work, I think it’s too vague for me to comment on for now.

I’m almost finished with this drama but I really must ask about this one part first……What on earth is with that whole super emo-charged, heart wrenching, powerful and dramatic angsty face-off between CY and XY that suddenly turns out to be a dreamscape/illusion ?!!??
I feel so cheated! That scene got me so worked up and emo-invested and just as it reached its climax (where XY died in CX’s arms), it is revealed this was all an illusion conjured up by some tea (?!)
Why did the production waste so much time, effort, money and energy to produce such a loooong and very taxing (for audiences but Especially for YZ & ZWY) performance only to diss it as an illusion? What is the point? It does nothing to advance the story. Why ? Why? What a waste of such a stellar performance by the 2 leads.
Is this a case of the drama production not sticking to the novel again? Or is there a purpose to this scene which I’ve completely missed out on?
