He’s not innocent as he mentioned to his mother he knew exactly how to make FL worried about him. Since Ep 1 or 2, he faked getting drunk, he’s more cunning than he looked. FL had a blind spot for him and Yun Shu, the fifth Miss Rong (she’s the one who constantly provided schemes for 2nd and 4th Miss and saw discord among the cousins). Shang Bao got played by her faking a victim bullied by the others. She also got fooled by Wen thinking he’s naive and became too protective of him.
