There’s a backstory to ZZ’s none killing principle . He went on a killing spree (I forgot what was the reason) and got into trouble. Judge Bao helped him and he decided to serve under him and vowed not to be that reckless again. And also he now represents the court official so his actions are scrutinized and could implicate Judge Bao. Like how they tried to frame him in earlier ep to bring down Judge Bao’s court and jurisdiction.
I think they’re also contrasting the difference between court justice and Jiang hu justice. ZZ used to follow his sene of justice before he joined the court. Now Bai Yu Tang is an example of Jiang Hu justice, punishing bad guys his way. It’s interesting interplay.
