Title The Untamed
most highest rated drama on mdl, is it worth watching? I've watched 2 xianxias (AOL and TMOPB)
Both Ashes of Love and Ten Miles are my top favorite cdramas but I loved The Untamed even more. I personally think that if you liked those 2 dramas (and dont mind BL) then you'll really like it.

I keep reflecting what makes this drama such a success as compared to other historical dramas airing at the same…
Definitely is the characters that makes this drama, especially WWX. He is a very fun and charismatic character. But a lot of the characters won my heart. I also loved seeing the progression of WWX from being a rambunctious youth to powerful hero. But ultimately the drama, despite its flaws, won me over for the intense feelings it invoked in me. I've not had a drama evoke such strong feeling in me for a long time. ❤

The ending could be seen as open-ended but I saw it as them together in the end. I loved the ending. I've not seen the animation or read the book so I'm not sure how those end.

Title The Untamed Spoiler
Oh man. Nothing good to watch out there now that Untamed is finished. Let’s do something fun, respond to this…
I have tons of favorite scenes and a lot of my favorites have already been mentioned by others. But one of my favorite scenes was the very last 5 min. I rewatched that scene about 6x in a row. It was so beautifully done with the scenery and music and the intense emotions it gave me. I also loved all drunk Lan Zhan scenes and when he and Wei Ying did duets together. I also loved the scene where Wei Ying was discovered to have returned by everyone (when he pulled out his sealed sword) and is surrounded by all these people calling for his death, and Lan Zhan confidently stands by him despite that it will cause him to be shunned and his reputation tarnished. Really showed at that moment that he would always stand by Wei Ying no matter what. Another scene I loved was the whole scene where Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are bowing to the Ancestors at Lotus Pier and Jiang Cheng throws an angry fit. Both how Wei Ying protect Lan Zhan from slander and then Jiang Cheng finding out what Wei Ying did for him and Lan Zhan's tears over his sacrifice and what he suffered. And the whole episode that leads up the Wei Ying dying. Lots of emotions in that episode! I can go on lol

Maybe I had a different translation but on the one I saw they call him the Chief Cultivator which I understood as being the leader of all the clans like Jin Guangyao and Wen Ruohan before him.

Title The Untamed
im up to ep5 and im still iffy about it, Its still enough to keep me interested tho. hopefully it'll be more interesting…
I dont like how they handled the first 2 ep. I think they should have started with the scene of him dying then immediately gone to the past to show how things came to that point. I was super confused otherwise and you have no clue who any of these characters are and miss tons of the subtleties and the emotional impact because of this. It took me until about ep 7 to get into this and maybe ep. 12 to really become hooked. You get more and more addicted as the drama unfolds. I haven't been this obsessed with a drama in a very very long time. I think last time I was was Ashes to Love and even that wasnt to this level.

I just can't watch this. I really don't want to watch 2 men making googoo eyes at each other.. Great for the sensor…
Which is fine! BL things aren't for everyone. It's just like my sister who can't stand straight romances and wont watch them (even thought I've tried to get her to watch a few of my favs). Everyone has their preferences.

I finally brought myself to watch the final two episodes and.....guess we're rewatching this for the rest of eternity…
ikr? I keep trying to start other dramas but I get like 15 min. into one and just stop because they aren't this. I think the only thing that will satisfy me is to rewatch this or read the novel.

@chinesedramafan I haven't read the novel but what I gathered from the drama is his mom was a student of the rogue cultivator Baoshan (so she wasn't affiliated with any sect) and his dad was a servant of Jiang Cheng's dad (Jiang Fengmian). Like LwjDragHimmm has said, they died one night while night hunting. WWX lived as a beggar (but the drama doesn't make it clear on how long) which is where his phobia of dogs comes from because he had to fight with feral dogs for food. It also seems to be implied that Jiang Fengmian loved WWX's mom which is why he cared for him so much (this might have also just been Yu Ziyuan's jealousy).

Thank you so much! I was assuming LJW branded himself after WWX died as a way to be connected to him but this definitely give more light to the reasoning. I personally like that LJW was there when WWX died. I think it gave it much more impact.

And I now recall them mentioning the goddess they worship in the temple and how the temple only worships that goddess, but I didn't pick-up that it was his mother. Especially since I don't think his mother's name is ever mentioned. They also don't really show him really caring for his mother in the drama. He is extremely sensitive to being called the son of a prostitute but I thought that was just for his sake of not liking being called that not for his mother's sake.

Ya, I knew he was weakened, especially since Mo Xuanyu had barely cultivated so he had much less powers and it made WWX much weaker in that regard. He just had seemed like he had gotten better after the events on the Burial Mounds so wasn't sure if there was a bigger reason behind him passing out. But now thinking about it. Wouldn't WWX be weaker in his own body because he didn't even have a golden core, while from what I understand Mo Xuanyu does, it's just super weak and not developed. But then thinking again I am guessing it was because of the Tiger Seal that made him super powerful as WWX.

One last question. I am assuming it was Nie Huaisang who contrived for Mo Xuanyu to resurrect WWX to help him eliminate JGY. In the first 2 episodes it shows the Dancing Goddess was just an illusion to get WWX to call out Wen Ning. Was this also Nie Huaisang's doing? To maybe test if it was WWX? Because he was never against WWX and LJW, just working in the shadows to push them to the conclusion. And I am pretty sure JGY didn't know WWX had come back until much later.

And ya, I absolutely loved this drama and can't stop thinking about it but it did have some plots holes. Like the drama never addressing the conclusion to the curse WWX ended up getting. Whenever he didn't look healthy I kept thinking it was the curse acting up. It wasn't until the drama literally ended did I realize it was just never again addressed.

I just finished this drama and it officially broke me and I don't know what to do with myself now. It was such an amazing drama and definitely one of my top favorites.

But I did have a couple questions.

1. In one of the scenes WWX sees LJW bathing where he sees the whip marks. But there is also a brand on LJW's chest that is never explained. It clearly is the same type of brand WWX got in the past, so did LJW brand himself to show his love or is there something else behind it?

2. In the temple at the end Jin Guangyao is digging for something but it never actually says or tells you what he was digging for. It was obviously something really important but Nie Huaisang got there first and replaced it with his brothers body. So what was he looking for?

3. Near the end WWX and LJW are praying to the Jiang ancestors which is where Jiang Cheng confronts WWX. WWX just randomly passes out (which is when Wen Ning tells JC about WWX giving him his golden core). I thought he had passed out because of the curse but reading comments below that was actually resolved much earlier, just was never actually shown or said. So why did he randomly pass out? Nothing happened to warrant it that I could see.
