This was a heavy watch and the ending was so sad....if you've seen Grey Rainbow then you know to take a similar amount of tissues , water and chocolate into this one too. - it's a different kind of ending but just as heart wrenching. The sad irony is it didn't have to be this sad...much like Grey Rainbow. Very well acted and filmed but, again like GR, not one I could watch again because I seriously can't cry that much too often.

Oh I love them all - they're such lovely boys. I really support Tae and Kookie if they are in a relationship and I love Yoongi's sassy nature; he's adorable in his own dark way and that's what I like most about him. Jin is quite serious and Namjoon's the leader and seems very clever; my daughter says his IQ is really high so I'm quite envious of him due to having brain damage myself. Jimin is just adorable with that cute smile but Hobi is my favourite because he's been bullied by anti fans in the past and he has such a bright sunny nature and his'Smiley Eyes' grin just makes my heart happy no matter how down I've been. They're good to their fans too which is nice. Certainly something western pop stars like beiber could learn from.
It's true that teenagers would've probably missed it and his treatment of them probably made him enemy no.1 to them and so hardly likely to be sympathetic to any issues he had by the time they might've realised. I'd like to think I would look out for my friends, as I did, regardless.....but my friends were the victims, my fights were to protect them - NOT against them. I'm not sure I'm that good a person if they'd been as nasty as Gi Tae I would've reacted any differently to his friends.
Sadly teachers tend to look the other way with students that bully; especially those that are that violent because they don't want to be on the receiving end themselves - students this vicious often turn on teachers, this happened at my high school and indeed my daughter's. But also schools hate admitting they have bullies; especially bullies this vicious and sadistic. It's wrong because if they'd acted it would've not only saved lives but also saved a lot of heartache.
It drives me mad that schools don't face the problem head on and save so much hurt and physical pain rather keep insisting there's nothing happening. As I said to my daughter's headteacher - "you do know that ostrich's die when they bury their heads in the sand for too long?" (I wasn't popular).
In the manga of Silent Voice they main couple, the bully and his victim, ended up dating through high school and then getting married. They were very happy - my daughter tracked it down and read it. She said it was excellent. So - perhaps - in a way this movie got a happy ending......just in a different genre and story. It does give me hope though. :)
Agreed - that's why I was angry at Grey Rainbow - it was just such an unnecessary plot twist just for shock value. But if it's part of the story and a natural progression of the plot, like this one was, then you sob and wish it ended well, but you understand why it didn't.
I just ended up shuttling to the parts with the second lead couple - SO much more watchable that way. I really hope Park Hyung Shik and I'm Ji Yeon can partner up again - only the next time as the LEAD couple........THAT would be a drama I'd watch.

Oh I completely agree - I felt it was just for shock value. I got through a whole roll of kitchen paper I cried so much. It was just horrible and there was no warning at all.....
There's been a few good Japanese ones I can let you have the titles of if you're ever after any. I'm a BL fan of the first order! lol! There's not as many GL stories around that are as good, but there's a few (not Japanese though - they're either Thai or Taiwanese). They just don't seem to be as prevalent as the BL stories. :)

I also don't see how being true to who you are - whether sexually, identity, musically, artistically or even romantically - is a bad thing for your country? Since when did having a tattoo, living with your loved one before marriage, same gender partner or liking rap music suddenly make someone an enemy of the state?
Oh I LOVE Taiwanese BL and it's amazing about their rules on gay marriage considering China refuses to let them go from their 'protection' and even threatened armed conflict if they tried. I hope Taiwan continues to be the guiding light for the LGBT in East Asia; though Thailand is very good too and Japan is a close third. Sadly South Korea seems to be keen to follow China with their level of intolerance.
I've watched The Way He Looks about 5 times now - it's just such an uplifting movie and shows that the gay community isn't so different - yes there are bad people, but there is in every walk of life, we're not all perfect (and God that would be boring), but most of the LGBT community like the straight community, just want to be happy and have a nice life. I've never seen a problem in that. lol!

Thanks for that Athena - I saw yesterday Adam Uni was gone as I KNEW he'd have had ep 5 up quickly. Just a crying shame as he was my favourite uploader and subber. My daughter's bias is Namjoon - but I do love their music (I think Spring Day will always be my favourite; but I also adore Fire and Boy Luv) My current favourite is from Hobi's mixtap - Daydream; it's got quite a funky beat to it and I ADORE it. I liked Namjoon's Do You just because of the innovative way he had the opening of the rattle cans and spray.....just inspired.
To me they're my adopted sons (I'm 52) so I just worry if they're eating enough, getting enough rest and whether Tae and Kookie will ever be able to go public....lol! I say things to my daughter like "don'tyou think Jimin is looking a bit thin recently...I hope he's eating properly"... I'm such a mum!
As to the movie you make a lot of good points - I do agree that Dong Yoon will always regret those words because he knows they were probably the final straw for Gi Tae. But, as someone who's had mental health issues in the past (clinical depression, suicidal tendancies and self harming (still recovering with the latter), I don't think that can be used as a reason for what he did - certainly your point that his friends and family should've seen the signs is very true, mine did.....but even with me it took a long time. We're often very good at wearing masks - though it is possible Gi Tae's mask was that of the bully.
You've certainly given me a different perspective on him to a point - I still think he reaped what he sowed. But I also don't believe he should've died for it. With help your points make me hopeful he could've changed, won back his friends trust (or at least formed new friendships) which makes his death all the more heartbreaking.....
I saw an anime my daughter recommended - The Silent Voice about a bully who changed his ways and yet his actions haunted him and made him hate himself. He was BRUTAL but I ended up really liking him. It's a good anime and very similar to this story - you should give it a look; it WILL make you cry, but it's worth it. It's kind of like the POSITIVE ending this could've had.
I can tell you the end to the manga if you like when you've watched it. Believe it or not, it lost an oscar to Boss Baby.....i cannot tell you how annoyed I was about that. I can't recommend it enough - especially in light of this film. Thanks again for giving me an alternative viewpoint too - it never pays to be too judgemental and when it comes to bullies I can be. :)
