I love your article.. I love Japanese culture.. I love how they love their imperfections. crooked teeth in Japan…
+IllaGG -- Yup, agreed. But the Taiwanese dramedy 'Down With Love' had a lead female love interest that didn't look, dress or act like she'd just stepped off the pages of vogue and 'Someone Like Me' lead female actress was pretty, but not stunning and as klutzy as they come. So hopefully the Japanese attitude of 'it's what's INSIDE that counts' is starting to transfer to other dramas. As a westerner I love ANY good drama, I don't care a toss about the country of origin. What DOES help me buy into a story and its characters is when the actors and actresses are NOT perfect in every way - especially looks and clothes. it makes them, and the story they're selling, much more believable.

i adored Last Cinderella one of the first j-dramas i finished i loved a Strong girl one that defies its regular…
High School King of Savvy - just brilliant. The lead female character is not your typical 'strong noona' and the lead male character (and dongsaeng) isn't your typical 'puppy love' type; but it just really works. They are shown as being flawed but also that their flaws each completes the other - not to mention that it has a second lead male who (for a change) is a total arse rather than a dreamy sweet soul (yet has a reason for being such a monster), and who has the lead female in love with him, and doesn't care......until it's probably too late..

I have to say the moment he realises how wonderful she is and what he may just have let slip through his fingers ...it just breaks your heart (you know his back story by then); especially when the male lead confronts him. You hate him - especially on witnessing his ham-fisted and rude way of trying to claw her back - but feel sorry for him too (I actually didn't hate him, but he wasn't very likeable that's for sure; sad back story or not).

It's just another twist in a story that has been done so many times, yet this puts a few curves in that make you like it and make it a little different. The 'noona' in this is very strong in her own way; and, likewise, so is the 'puppy love' dongsaeng in his own way - which makes a pleasant change.

I absolutely LOVED Last Cinderella and it's one of my favourite J-dramas, especially of the Noona genre. BUT what about the Korean show 'High School King of Savvy' - that was just soo cute. I even have the dvd. Admittedly she doesn't know she's 10 years older through the first have of the series, and yet is still resistent to his advances, but she does become aware and it's just so FLUFFY!! The noona in this is a little childish, which works as the donsaeng's quite mature so they sort of meet in the middle, but she has a really big heart and the relationships around her and her caring for others actually shows her as a very strong person. She will fight for those she feels are bullied or victimised and she will fight for what she loves; as will her dongsaeng - and his love is just....awww.... really can't recommend it enough. :)

I LOVED this article - whoever wrote it should write many more, they are GIFTED at the 'tongue in cheek' articles and it made me laugh so hard....probably because it's so true. XD

Can anyone tell me the dramas involved in the pics and gifs?

Nice to see more BL/Yaoi coming out from Asia - HOPEFULLY with HAPPY endings though and NOT the always dire death endings from everything from the plague to a paper cut.

YES!!! So this is an historical version of 'Like Love'? Oh my stars, I am so very happy to see this! Just as I'm finally coming to terms with the appalling way 'Uncontrolled Love' was handled to see this just makes me so happy. :) Any idea on release date/English subs? Also, that's NOT MaiDing is it? It looks like the very pretty guy from 'Round Trip to Love' instead.......

The Thai version of Full House was STREETS ahead better than the Korean one. There just wasn't the chemistry between the two main Korean leads that there was between the Thai ones, so the whole Korean romance came across as unbelievable - whereas with the Thai one I will NEVER eat an ice-cream cone again without smirking. ;)

I also have to say here that the Jang Hyuk's laugh in the Korean version of 'Fated to Love You' was just plain stuff of nightmares - seriously, I had bad dreams about a clown with that laugh hunting me to eat me; it got to the point where I DREADED him laughing...... :$

This article was excellent - I have to admit I really liked Do-hyun in Kill Me, Heal Me - BUT I was rooting for Shin Se-gi all the way through; it was clear that, unlike the other personalities, he considered himself a 'person' and one with a right to exist. He certainly was different to the other personalities and gave me the feeling that, if Ri-jin had loved HIM, he would've been different......for her anyway. It's the only time I can ever say I had SLS with the SAME actor in two roles. LOL! However, I also felt for Oh Ri-on; another damaged soul who, in this case, was trying to pretend he was fine. Both characters broke my heart.

I personally preferred Lee Soo Hyuk in 'High School King of Savvy'; he was the archetypal villian in that; BUT with a scarred and lonely heart. He LOOKED like a beautifully 'suited and booted' vampire and came across like the most broken soul you'd meet (with serious family issues too) and who had decided to merely try and make everyone like him. The moment he realises what he lost, as he looks at the birthday cake with the message card, oh my dear sweet stars - I cried so much for him; terrible though he was, he STILL managed to not only make me feel sorry for him, but cry for him too. Yup, he was THE best (misunderstood) baddie in that drama. :)

Not sure how a comparison between the Itazura na Kiss franchise can be given when TWO of them haven't been watched? As well as the Korean version the article writer admits to having not seen, there's also a Thai version called 'Kiss Me' (one series so far, with the second to be released soon). To miss two version out surely means the findings on this drama are flawed?

Completely agree - I'd have liked to have seen him jeans though too. But the guy was just hot and I will give him full on kudos for walking in those getas, I would break my ankle at the first step - plus he RAN in them too....

Too bad this isn't subbed in English.
I can't find it subbed anywhere - I'm currently learning Japanese and Korean, but don't know it well enough to be able to follow the quickly delivered lines that well. :(

Likewise, I think I've watched that movie about four times now - it's so good and he is gorgeous. Nice to see a star a bit older than me for change too (I'm 51)!! :D

Actors were good, especially considering what they had to work with; but I think the scriptwriters and director were tripping.....I can't even bring myself to review this.

How many episodes - someone said there's 7 (and that's what listed here), but kissasian only has 5. Anyone know…
Thanks for that - I had wondered. It's just that KissAsian's only putting up parts of some series. There's only been 3 episodes of the recent remake of MARS put up so I thought I better check. .

Ji Sung - nuff said; I've seen him in 'Secret', 'Kill Me, Heal Me', 'Protect the Boss' and and 'My P.S. Partner' and he was brilliant in ALL four dramas (though I loved him most in Protect the Boss, I was rooting for Shin Se-gi all through Kill Me, Heal Me too).
