Let me start by saying there are NO redeemable characters in this - you can understand the victims motivations, but not necessarily justify all their actions. The bad guy's just plain evil and deserve everything that's coming to him. However, the title is VERY fitting - it's wasted time, years in fact, for EVERYONE. They're all so bent on revenge (victims) and power (bad guy) that everything else just becomes a white noise around them. For me it's probably the most depressing film I've watched in a long time.
It's still airing and I'm already depressed about the ending. I know he will die >.<
@Taylor_elle -- Apparently that's NOT how the book of this drama ends though......and there's a spin off drama with the same main leads are in that too and he's very much alive.
Nice old drama, a classic indeed, BUT Kaoru is the most annoying woman ever in dramaland !
Having watched the movie, and cried for Hoshino, I can understand your rage at Kaoru. I used a LOT of bad language as I yelled and raged at my laptop. But I'm a woman and I would NEVER treat a dog like that, let alone another human being.
I had a violent ex who beat and raped me so, on a personal level I do understand where you're coming from. However, I didn't blame the entire male population for his actions, or the actions of my father who cheated on my late mum her entire married life to him. He treated her appallingly and has only got worse since she died. The only reason I maintain contact is because I made a promise to her to keep an eye on him and I've NEVER broken a promise and don't intend to start now no matter how he hurts my feelings and insults me.
I married after 2 years of dating and I've been with my wonderful husband for 27 years in total - this year is our silver wedding anniversary. Of course he's not perfect, then I'm not either - I wouldn't him to be as I don't like perfect. I see Hoshino's point the most as I'm very ugly and I know it affects your view of the world - it was why I put up with my ex so long I think.
So remember, it's not just women treating men badly, men do it too. There's good and bad in both genders. Men can be as spiteful and shallow as women; it's not gender specific.
I believe that Kaoru may be pretty on the outside, very pretty in fact - but the only way she'll ever be pretty on the inside is if someone invents edible make up. My husband was, and still is, incredibly handsome and I still wonder at how someone like that could marry a gargoyle like me (what his late father called me once - he said that, when I wore make up, I look like a painted gargoyle); but for all that he has a kind and loving heart, a gentle soul and he loves me no matter what.
So PERHAPS she's changed, PERHAPS the ending we see is legit - I doubt it. People like her rarely do; let's face it, I've seen deeper raindrops on the pavement than her. BUT then people like me and you exist, people like my husband and my daughter (19) exist. People who look at a person's SOUL and their HEART, not what's on the outside, and we LOVE that part of them the most.
I left the movie crying my eyes out and hoping that the Happy Ever After that Hoshino so desperately wants he gets - yet unsure whether he will with this particular person; BUT I AM sure he will ONE DAY with someone who'll treasure his HEART and SOUL as much as my husband treasures mine and I treasure his. Whether it's with Kaoru is unclear in the long term.
Just remember NOT all women are like Kaoru; in fact some of us are on the RECEIVING end of violence, brutality and bitterness too.
I'm currently watching 'Miss in Kiss' and it's AWFUL - it's a reboot of the Taiwanese version, but it's followed the WORST parts of the KOREAN one.
The writing is appallingly bad but, where the Korean one had a good cast to hold it together, this one does NOT. The ONLY cast member who is worth bothering to watch is Gong Yi Teng (who plays the 'Kinnosuke' second lead character called 'Jin Zhi Zhu' in this version). EVERYONE else, and I MEAN everyone, is AWFUL.
The female lead makes you seriously wonder how she can walk and talk at the SAME time she's so thick and both she and the male lead ACT like they've been kidnapped and are merely refusing to co-operate with their captors by just mumbling and shuffling their way through the most boring drama in the world. At the other end of the scale the mother acts like she's either on speed and/or suffers from ADHD as she just gabbles away and flits around so fast she's like a damn humming bird.
I've got to episode 33 of 39 in total (hosted on Netflix UK), but nothing more than sheer determination and stubbornness to see it through to the end. But it's so SLOW and so BAD - I've had to watch it in 15 minute bursts with breaks in between since episode 29, or I might've chewed my own face off.
I seriously cannot say enough about how terrible this reboot is - when it was realised that Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng didn't want to do a third season of their BEAUTIFUL original adaptation; the powers that be should've left it alone. As it is now Taiwan has the dubious accolade of having the BEST version in the ORIGINAL of 'InK' but also the WORST version in the REBOOT.
Really, I'm NOT joking, there will NEVER be a version worse than this one....even if we dress our dogs up and film them on our phones with us doing voice overs....it would STILL be BETTER than the Taiwanese reboot.
I'm currently watching 'Miss in Kiss' and PLEASE DON'T follow me in - seriously! it's AWFUL - it's a reboot of the Taiwanese version, but it's followed the WORST parts of the Korean one and thrown in a few drops of the worst of the Japanese one for good measure.

Chinese BL? Going to end tragedy - the Chinese BL ALWAYS, ALWAYS does.
@melontea - I completely agree with you. I also think that, as shown with Russia, if the government gives tacit or even open agreement to homophobia then the people will follow suit. Obviously not everyone, but there are always those just looking for an excuse to hate another person. I just find it so soul destroying to watch BL drama after BL drama from China all end the same way - with tragedy and despair for the gay couple. I do genuinely feel that the Chinese government and SARFT are still in the Dark Ages and don't understand that being gay, lesbian, bi or trans is NOT a 'lifestyle choice' (as SARFT have called it) and is actually just WHO the person is. Oh and I'm a straight woman; but I have gay family members so I see both sides of the argument - I just believe that a human being should be allowed to love even if that love is the same gender as them.
They added 4 more episodes?? There was 36 eps and now 40 eps... I'm on ep 30 and I think 36 eps is enough,…
I think more screen time would've helped we fans warm to their lead couple's relationship, but would've put so much pressure on Sheng Peter that I'm not sure he'd have coped. He's only 24 and seems fairly new to acting, especially main roles, so I can kind of understand the reasoning IF it was for this.
Oh well that explains so much about the timings; I think the Korean one was a little rushed at the end - but the Chinese one dragged! A meeting in the middle would've been better. :) But thanks for the info.

Oh my stars, I hear you on that one - I thought Ha Ri was bad in the Korean version, but she was a total saint compared to the (so-called) 'best friend' in this one.
I agree - a LOT could've been taken out and we wouldn't have even noticed. For instance the gold-digger and the young guy she thought was the nephew - they were given WAY too much screen time. I think though at some point it was being realised that Sheng Peter was REALLY struggling and so they tried to ease the pressure on him by giving less screenn time to him and more to peripheral characters and the Hui Zhen/Yi Mu dynamic, as well as Yi Mu and the Female Dog Woman (as I took to calling her 'friend').

Certainly the ones you mentioned had okay endings compared to the others, but we can only hope that China overcomes its rampant homophobia and starts allowing its entertainment industry to portray the LGBT community in a more positive light and with happy endings AND accepting families. :)

Well I'm grateful they condensed it a bit for online because I'm not sure I could've gone through another six episodes. It was good, but a little draggy in places as it was - add another six episodes on would've been too much. I certainly don't feel I've missed anything by having it a little condensed. :)
YiMu is stealing the show for me, idk if its the char or the actor.
@Rin --- yup, the story in 'Marry Me or Not' was just not good - I also really didn't get any chemistry connection with ANY of the main cast. I just found it okay, but a bit boring.
YiMu is stealing the show for me, idk if its the char or the actor.
@Rin -- I think it's true and that Dilraba and Vin worked the best in 'Pretty Li.....' and I think it would've been a fan favourite if they'd changed the ending so THEY were the surprise couple. I'm so looking forward to that drama too for the same reason as you; seeing them together again will be brilliant.
Like you I found 'Perfect Couple' flagged a bit at the end, but their chemistry really kept it interesting for me. It was the same with 'Playful Kiss', the Korean version of 'Itazura na Kiss' - the script was appallingly bad and, until the Taiwanese reboot came out, it was universally thought of to be the worst adaptation. But the lead couple had chemistry, were very good actors and so you kind of believed it (to a point).
The Taiwanese reboot has an equally appalling script (mainly because they've used the Korean version as their 'master copy' - though God alone knows why), but the added twist is the main leads are terrible actors, have ZERO, literally zero, chemistry with each other (or anyone else for that matter) and - with the exception of the young guy playing 'ah jin' who is very good - ALL the cast are terrible. It's now usurping the Korean version as the worst one EVER made and fans of the franchise (me included) HATE it. The irony is that the ORIGINAL Taiwanese adaptation was always considered the best or in the top 2 for the fans (and usually because of the chemistry between the main leads!) lol!
I often watch East Asian movies (though in that I often like 'Red Cliff' and 'Rurouni Kenshin' type movies (RC is my all time favourite movie); but yes the dramas really snag me because they're usually longer, there's more character development and the plots are often better. It's to be expected - you can't shoehorn a developed story into 90 minutes can you? So dramas are my default I admit it :D
I think AngelaBaby was the WORST part of the movie version of 'My Sunshine' - I've seen a lot of her work and I really don't get what all the fuss is about; she's really not that good at acting....stunningly beautiful, yes; but NOT a good actress. :)
They added 4 more episodes?? There was 36 eps and now 40 eps... I'm on ep 30 and I think 36 eps is enough,…
Viki subbed version appears to have stopped at 40 episodes and the ep count at the top of the header page says 40 episodes - however it does still say it's 'on air' on Viki's main front page....however having watched it to the end I can safely say it's finished at 40.
Chinese BL? Going to end tragedy - the Chinese BL ALWAYS, ALWAYS does.
Oh yeah with OTHER countries, but rarely China's. The country makes a lot of BL but it ALWAYS ends sadly - case in point, the happy ending for 'Uncontrolled Love' was ONLY released on the uncut dvd AFTER a LOT of wrangling. The happy ending to 'A Round Trip to Love' was NEVER filmed and when it was heading towards a happy ending the BL webdrama 'Addicted' was banned and the two main actors blacklisted for months.
