Yes and no. I think she read Ms Yoons book and remembered it, then used it to her advantage to try to get into Sandbox. She also chose Ms Yoon to be her mentor. She did seem surprised when she overheard Ms Yoon talk about it and made the connection when she said she couldn't reward him because he died in an accident.
I do feel bad for her, because she is very unhappy with her situation, and early on you could tell she was really upset when her dad was beaten in front of her and her sister. I would like to see both of them happy again. They were best friends before the divorce.. yeah, I feel really bad for her. I keep wondering if her bitch tendencies were acquired from "training" from her jerkwad step-father. She grew the business and he used her.

It might not be what YOU are looking for, but he didn't lie to her in his confession. He even explained about the name Do San being pulled out of a paper. She (SDM) already said... and I QUOTE "It was a lie from the beginning" and the question that was asked and I QUOTE "who wrote the letters 15 years ago? Was it Do San or you?" There was no in depth discussion of what was in the letter, and he implicated grandma as well. Look in episode 1, you can see that HJP eventually started responding to her on his own. There is a scene where he is the only one there writing and another with him passing a letter on and looking up at the cherry tree/sky at night smiling. There is a scene in episode 4 where you can clearly see a flashback of him writing about go/stop to SDM and she interpreted the meaning in the letter and he agreed causing panic in the "Sans" Right there SDM pins it with the jealousy of people that get to play that game during a holiday gathering. He is adding some of himself in those letters that aren't a lie.
If you recall, in episode 3, HJP implores NDS not to see her again and to stop with the lies. It is NDS that rejects that and keeps on lying. At that point you can no long pin it all on HJP and give NDS the squeaky clean image. "I've never received a text from a girl other than my mom!" remember that one? then he continues to lie..dragging HJP into it.

Two things, #1 only NDS has been actively pursuing her not HJP. NDS has been the one lashing out at HJP because of his insecurities over the letters. #2 If he really wanted to spare her an explanation about the scrunchie, he could have just left it on her desk at sandbox.

He is also the one who told Ms Yoon about the likely possibility that the girl on the swing is SDM and not WIJ. Episode 10 cleared the story up.

I think HJP is going to end up the "big brother" figure in her life. When she found out the truth and JP watched DM cry, he instantly said "regrets always come too late". I don't see him becoming a slime.. but with this writer... so far.. who knows? lol I think you might be having too much fun stretching for future plots! haha! you need to get with the plan and start hating HJP a little more like all the NDS fangirls and boys. I was also hoping from more from WIJ. Early on as a little girl, she didn't seem so bad till she took off with mother... I guess we will see... that is if we continue to watch!

Perhaps he just wanted to make sure she was okay as he was also interested in finding grandma after she gave her name at the Sandbox Q/A .. he thought "is she crazy? Is she sick?" by his own words as she was slamming her head into the rail over and over again, then against the bus cover back glass, then her purse. He wasn't within earshot of the "Don't worry, I'm not crazy" statement. I think it has been quite clear that neither lead male has a great personality. Another side note, I have also read in comments that all the letters were co-written by Grandma, but you can clearly see in timestamp 37:04 to 38:04 HJP is doing most of the letter writing by that point. Her only friend was her sister according to grandma and HJP never had a friend. They were both clearly enjoying the letters. (remember HJP had his own collection of letters too.. (let me know if you need a time stamp) On a side note, he didn't approach her or harass her. (that would be stalking) His expression didn't get serious till he saw grandma selling corn dogs. I don't think it really counts as stalking because he knew grandma and that seemed to be his early goal post sandbox q/a to find her. Maybe some possible spoilers ahead about his thought process in the letters we haven't heard recited yet in future episodes.

If he is so unimportant, I guess that they shouldn't have written him into the show. He has had a LOT of screen time in this series. Lets be honest, other than the actors looks, NDS is a poorly written character. He isn't very relatable.. or even extremely likable either. It seems pretty obvious that you are a huge fan of the actor playing NDS.. and that is okay.. but it is also okay for other people to have opinions too.
