He stated his age in episode 2, I think it was 34 from memory
mid 30s is a very common age for romcom leads in kdramas.
The ML will have needed to complete his tertiary education, complete that military time that is mandatory in SK, and establish himself in his career as a successful architect. Any younger than 34 and I would be suspending my disbelief. He also stated he was not that interested in pursuing romance. He had, at the time, more important things to do. Like further his career.
The FL was just about to be married. The whole thing starts because she cancelled.
First 2 episodes were kind of average. So far 80% of the story is basically a mix of Welcome to Samdalri and Doctor…
Except the scenario for Samdalri felt way too staged and fake for it to be engaging, and Doctor Slump was just lacklustre all over. This drama is neither so far.
(please note, this is my personal opinion, and I dropped the two dramas you mentioned after two episodes. This one I will continue because I actually like it)
I do agree that the violence played for laughs is in poor taste though. Maybe I've encountered it too many times I've become desensitized? This is not a good thing.
Is there no historical drama which is just slice of life type without having any palace politics? Like this drama…
The Story of Ming Lan is almost all SOL, most of the politics is family drama. There is an attempted coup that happens in the drama, but it only really lasts a couple episodes, and the court politicking is so light it barely counts.
A low attention span watcher will by dismayed by the many moving parts necessary to keep track of.
I know you're going to disagree, but I haven't felt like there is overly much nuance in the story. I do pay more attention in the important/emotionally charged scenes ofc, but the drama is fairly easy to follow and understand.
Absolutely beautiful. It's about these two people supporting each other to chase their dreams, who, along the way, happen to fall in love. Don't wait for the romance to start, because then you'll miss all the wonderful little moments required to get there.
Though I would definitely love more, I was left satisfied by the ending.
Also, the landlady Kyoko was an awesome supporting character.
Enjoying the concept, but by episode 10, the sentimental music is really getting to me. I'll be back to finish it some other time. Probably, maybe. Once I watch the original, if it ever becomes legally available in my country.

(I only watch things on legal sites)
